Superhumans of the Dome City-Chapter 1309 - 140: Fulfillment of All
This madwoman didn’t have any attachments anymore. She gave Gongsun Ce one last look, as if realizing she had nothing left to say, and made a face at the boy she once knew. Gongsun Ce pulled a face in return, and she stretched lazily, chuckling, before turning into a beam of light and silently disappearing.
"What a scoundrel!"
Roning Les cursed angrily. He often dealt with spirits, recovering the fastest from sorrow. He grabbed the old captain Macrow by the collar, pulling him backward: "Come on now, Old Firewood, stop looking! The deed is done, and you’re still a spirit. Helaisen needs to quickly make you a temporary body so you can go back and recover. There’s still a mountain of things to do!" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The old captain stood still, gazing longingly at the golden souls, staring at the legendary heroes he admired as a child and the aging king he served his whole life, a gentle smile appearing on his face. He lifted his hand, breaking away from Roning Les, moving slowly but firmly.
The resurrection mage’s hand paused in mid-air, his mouth opened, yet he lowered his hand silently. Vice-Captain Gafri was also there, looking puzzled at the two old colleagues, their eyes meeting. Suddenly, understanding dawned on Gafri, and he lowered his head, his words filled with sorrow: "Oh, Macrow... you stubborn old man."
Gongsun Ce felt a strange sense of wonder, stepping forward to ask: "Captain? What’s wrong?"
The old captain’s gaze was kind and gentle, reprimanding the junior for the first time.
"Mind your words, Knight Gongsun. I’m no longer the captain, you are now the captain of the Morton Royal Knights, the most honorable knight in the whole country. It’s impolite to address me by the former title."
Gongsun Ce was taken aback: "But... but this is just an emergency measure! I’m a Superpower User! Once we return to the country, I’ll pass the title to—"
"To whom, Knight Alandia?" Macrow pondered, "To be honest, I wanted to pass it to her back then, but I know she’s not very fond of too much work and interviews... Or maybe Knight Orianna?"
"Please spare me!" Orianna quickly replied, "I’m the Seventh Knight—I’m already doing my best by fulfilling my duties, I’m really not suited for the position!"
"Should Gafri take over? Perhaps Rakael? I think you all can discuss it slowly, I’m sure you’ll find a solution that satisfies everyone." Macrow said with a laugh, "Please forgive me, I’m a bit tired."
Gongsun Ce felt choked, a stomach full of words yet to be spoken, blocked by this sigh. He looked at the old man’s graying hair, the deep wrinkles on his face, remembering his awkwardness during interviews, his gentle tone when guiding juniors, his blackened armor worn throughout his life, burning himself again and again, only to rise anew from the fire.
He had clung to life in a nearly soulless state for four years, even Situ Yi thought his spirit was long gone, until the resurrection mage awakened, reviving the armor with power, allowing him to recognize the world once more. He had worked so hard, he was so tired, and he had given all his strength for righteousness.
He wanted to rest.
Gongsun Ce took off his glasses, wiping his face forcefully. The Dawn Knight approached him, speaking with unprecedented seriousness: "Knight Macrow, I pledge by my life and honor that I will uphold my duty, doing everything I can to protect the country."
"Thank you, Knight Alandia." Macrow nodded, "I’ve been thinking, it is irresponsible, and the future might hold more trials, perhaps I should insist on staying to help... But seeing you all, the strong old friends, the thriving youths, and our new captain, I feel it might also be time for me to rest."
Roning Les’s voice was deep: "Eternity is a splendid dream, an end is just as much a blissful rest."
Macrow smiled, delighted by his old friend’s understanding. He waved goodbye to everyone, turning into a blaze and flying to the sky. He stood before King Morton, beside Queen Annie, among the many gathered souls.
Together they ascended to the heavens, dissolving into the golden light.
