Chapter 240 - Parallel World VI
"You shouldn't have come," the figure growled, voice warped by distortion. "I was hoping to avoid this confrontation."
Dave's eyes widened as he took in the figure. It looked almost like an older, battle-worn version of Lady Goblin—but the energy, the chaos swirling around her, felt entirely different. This was not just a version of Lady Goblin—it was something worse.
Perry's hand flew to her gun. "Who are you?"
The figure let out a cold laugh, their voice still warped by the distortion. "You know me. Or rather, you know what I'm about to become. I am the culmination of all the failures you've seen. The one who will complete what your original Lady Goblin couldn't."
Dave's eyebrows raised and his eyes locked onto the figure. "A variant of Lady Goblin?"
The woman stepped forward, the air around her crackling with dark energy. "A variant, yes. But I am more. I've cracked the Goblin formula. And now? Now I have power you can only dream of. This city... no, this world will be mine. I'll make the Goblin King rise again."
Dave's expression remained calm as he took a step forward, drawing the energy from within him. "All say that and end up dead eventually"
The woman smirked, her eyes glowing brighter as she reached for the air. "Wrong? You'll see how wrong I am soon enough."
With a flick of her wrist, a pulse of energy shot out toward them. The blast was powerful enough to shake the ground, but Dave was already moving, darting out of the way with lightning speed, leaving a blur in his wake. Furiosa and Perry dove for cover as the blast shattered a nearby wall, dust and debris falling from the building's structure.
Dave reappeared in front of the woman, his eyes burning with mana. "I don't care what version of you this is. In the end you are just weak."
The woman hissed, her form shifting with the energy around her. "You'll learn what happens when you try to stop me. All the strength, all the power I've accumulated... I'll destroy everything in my path."
Just as she raised her hand to unleash another devastating attack, Perry's voice crackled through their earpieces. "Dave, we've got a problem. There's more of them—dimensional rifts opening all around us. We need to move."
Dave's gaze flicked toward Perry and Furiosa, who were both preparing for another fight. He knew that standing here and fighting this woman would only give her more time to bring reinforcements. He needed to act fast.
Without hesitating, Dave launched himself at the woman, but not to fight. He had a different idea in mind. As he closed the distance between them, he placed his hand on her chest and let out a mana pulse. The blast struck her like a ragdoll, sending her flying backward into the rift.
As she vanished into the collapsing dimensional portal, Dave drew his greatsword and unleashed a long, sideways slash—one forged with partial dimensional blade energy. The slash severed the rift, sealing it off and trapping Lady Goblin inside.
"So... where are the others?" Dave asked, turning as Perry and Furiosa looked at each other.
Perry tapped her web shooter and swung past him, shielding her eyes from the wind. "Follow me. I'll lead the way."
Dave nodded. Using a flight spell, he followed her closely. One by one, they closed and sealed the other rifts scattered across the city. Eventually, only one remained.
"Why leave this one?" Perry asked, pulling off her Spider-Woman mask.
Dave answered calmly, "The rifts are tied to tech Lady Goblin had. I disabled them, but she can rebuild it again if she escapes. So I left this one open—she'll come through it, and when she does, we'll end her."
"No... not end—capture," Perry said sternly, stepping in front of him. "We're doing this by the rules, love."
Dave exhaled slowly, eyes narrowing. "Your world, your rules... but mark my words—it's better to kill them than let them return and bring ruin in the future."
Perry didn't respond immediately. She simply stared at the remaining rift, unsure if she agreed or just didn't want to admit it.
Then, after a few tense moments, the rift shimmered and a figure emerged.
"Aha! You didn't close this one—Stupid brats!"
Lady Goblin stepped out, smirking smugly as the swirling rift collapsed behind her.
Dave didn't say anything. He just looked at her with cold, unreadable eyes—and didn't hold back the killing intent this time.
Lady Goblin cracked her neck with a grin, eyeing Dave and Perry.
"No toys this time? No sword? No traps?" she taunted, slowly circling.
Dave stood still, cloak fluttering gently from the rift's aftershock. His eyes locked on her.
"I don't need toys," he said quietly. His fingers danced with subtle hand signs. "I only need a second."
She lunged—faster than before. Her goblin-enhanced limbs moved like springs, bounding toward him with a wild cackle. Dave whispered a trigger word under his breath:
"Gravitas."
Suddenly, gravity shifted around Lady Goblin's legs, quadrupling the weight. She stumbled mid-air and smashed into the concrete floor like a cannonball, cracking it in a spiderweb pattern.
Perry leapt in with a wide arcing kick—Lady Goblin rolled aside, dodging just barely.
"You're not the only one with tricks!" she snarled, tossing a grenade.
"Suspend."
Dave flicked two fingers. The grenade stopped mid-air, encased in a shimmering cube of stasis magic, then harmlessly dematerialized.
Lady Goblin was on him again—this time faster, angrier. A clawed gauntlet swiped for his throat.
"Phase Step."
In a blink, Dave vanished, reappearing six feet behind her, palm forward.
"Fulgur Bolt!"
A blinding arc of blue lightning lanced from his hand, slamming into her back and sending her spiraling into a nearby pillar. It cracked but didn't collapse.
She growled, armor sizzling with static. "You're annoying, Kid"
Dave smiled faintly, already drawing a glowing sigil in the air with his fingers. "Yeah, I get that a lot."
Lady Goblin roared and activated her boosters—small rocket bursts shot from her heels and shoulders, flinging her forward like a missile.
