Chapter 645: Chapter 639: Do You Know What It Means to Be Rich? (Part 2)
“The box won’t get damaged. Once closed, it possesses enormous protective abilities. Even if struck by firearms, it wouldn’t have any problem.” Dunn Monty nodded and spoke. The firearms he spoke of were obviously not from Earth. Finn Lewis reached out to take it, then placed the box on the ground and shoving it directly in front of Montgomery Tian. He said flatly, “It is a gift. For you.”
The people in the room froze in unison. Montgomery was stunned, gaping wordlessly. After Dunn Monty and Thomas Calvin recovered from their shock, they exchanged glances. That was 2 million star credits Finn Lewis just spent, and now he was just giving it away?
“I am not sure why you need this, but I assume someone in your family does. Take it. Since you accepted my order and will be serving me, consider this a reward.” Finn Lewis spoke with nonchalance, then turned his attention back to the auction happening outside.
Montgomery Tian finally came to his senses. Tears welled up in his eyes and he fell to his knees before anyone had time to react. He bowed three times forcefully, the noise of his forehead hitting the floor loud enough for Finn Lewis to hear.
“Stand up. I’m not a fan of having people kneel before me. It’s not a good habit to have around me.” Finn Lewis gestured dismissively, saying no more.
If Heibear Lincoln — the man outside who casually auctioned the 2 million star credit item — knew Finn Lewis just gave it away, he might regret ever offending Finn Lewis. But he didn’t know, so his downfall was inevitable.
“… Coordinates for resource planet cxd-4, abundant in light minerals and silver marrow mine. Extraction difficulty is only **, although the surrounding environmental conditions are extremely harsh. But it still meets mining conditions. Auction price starts at 4 million star credits and includes two interstellar mining spacecraft. Each raise in bid should not be less than 100,000 star credits.” Another item was presented.
As soon as the item appeared, Finn Lewis could feel the atmosphere tense up around him. It was obvious that many people were dead set on obtaining it. However, for Finn, this item was of no use. It had no value to him whatsoever.
“4.5 million!”
“5 million!” Price calls echo from below, one after the other. What surprised Finn was the number of people bidding. It seemed like there were a lot of people in the Death Star zone. Among these people, one voice stood out — it belonged to Heibear Lincoln.
Finn’s mouth curled into a strange smile. He watched the relentless bidding war with interest. The prices climbed from tens of thousands to the bare minimum increments. However, the resource planet’s price quickly soared to 7 million star credits!
“8 million!” Heibear Lincoln’s voice sounded exasperated, causing the whole venue calm down. Heibear just raised the bid by a whole 1 million star credits in one go. Finn didn’t know what light mineral and silver marrow mine were, but their constant tug of war suggested that these items must be of particular value.
“8 million star credits for the first time, anyone wants to raise the price?” This time, unlike before, the place fell silent after the auctioneer’s call, instead of someone immediately raising the price.
“8 million star credits for the second time, anyone wants to raise the price? Even though its natural mining condition is ha…” The auctioneer rattled off quickly, trying to squeeze out the last ounce of possible bidding, but got interrupted by a bored voice before he could finish speaking.
“15 million.” Finn calmly cut in, then paused before saying apathetically, “Mr. Lincoln, I had my eye on this item too. There won’t be any misunderstanding with regular bidding, right?” Finn returned Heibear Lincoln’s previous provocation.
This time, however, the hall fell into dead silence. No one laughed because everyone was startled. Was this how a dispute started? Over a single provocative remark? If this was Finn’s style, then Heibear Lincoln’s day was going to end in a tragedy.
John Jenkins, the man in charge of this auction sitting backstage, was on the verge of laughing himself to death. Normally, organizers would be pissed at such a thing, but at an auction, an organizer would be ecstatic. If he weren’t unsure about Finn’s status, he’d be tempted to secretly contact Heibear Lincoln and encourage him to keep inflating the price.
With a man like Finn who boldly shot out such claims, it meant that he absolutely would not back down. In fact, not only backing down was out of question, but he would also do as he said.
