Super Spender-Chapter 512 - 506: Companions
Chapter 512: Chapter 506: Companions
McDon Taylor probably spent more than half an hour explaining to Finn Lewis. Just like Zero said, most of the creatures that invaded this world were infection bugs. Other Insect Species were very rare, but not non-existent. For instance, infection bugs did not appear alone. They were breed by a kind of mother bug almost the size of an elephant, which could burrow as well. The infection bugs were released by this mother bug. Its appearance resembles a massive rat, and its exceptionally robust body could rival a tank.
Moreover, it could spit out a deadly corrosive liquid capable of eroding many things. There was also another very aggressive Insect Species, but McDon had never seen them, only knowing they could fly.
“Brother, I’m starving.” As soon as McDon was done with his explanation, Laura Rhodes, who was next to him, timidly pulled at McDon’s clothes and said.
After some hesitation, McDon glanced at Finn before cautiously walking deeper into the passage. About ten minutes later, he came back from the passage holding a can that, judging by its appearance, was probably over two years old. Whether the contents were still edible was a question, but Finn could tell from McDon’s eyes that they would never afford themselves such luxuries under normal circumstances.
“This is the last can of food we have left. We’ll split it in half. After you eat, you should leave. I’ve told you the characteristics of the Parasite Humans. You should be able to survive safely,” McDon said to Finn, his voice betraying a hint of fear, as though he was frightened of something.
Looking at fast-disappearing canned food in his hand, then at Laura swallowing repeatedly next to him, Finn laughed bitterly. He thought for a moment before standing up and saying, “You two wait here for me, I’ll go get some things.”
Without waiting for a response, Finn turned around and left. After a while, he said, “Zero, I need to take out some food.”
This was the first time Finn felt he had made an excellent decision. If he had only brought weapons, finding food would indeed be a problem. Though there was certainly food in this world, Finn didn’t know if he would be able to eat food that was over two years expired.
Zero quickly provided an address. It was actually in this sewer. As for how Zero had placed it here, Finn didn’t care. His protective suit’s main control system was activated. Finn opened the suit’s screen and quickly charted out the entire area.
Especially the sewer network here, Finn believed he would have to spend a very long time in these sewers in the future. He quickly found the food zero had placed here. Looking up, he realized that the place was just a sewer manhole. All the food was well packed. Finn bagged them and carried them swiftly back along the route he came.
It wasn’t far from where McDon and Laura lived. Finn came back quickly. As he approached the entrance, he saw McDon waiting there, apparently wary of Finn bringing back something dangerous. After looking at Finn, and then the bag Finn was carrying, McDon hesitated for a moment, but remained silent and turned to walk back inside.
Once they reached where McDon and Laura lived, Finn put down the bundles he was carrying. “Thank you for saving my life, all of these things are food, please eat.” Finn laughed and untied the bundle in his hands.
When Finn had bought them, he picked up some convenient food like noodle soup, bread, sausages, cans and such. But these fresh looking items were a miracle in the eyes of McDon and Laura. They hadn’t seen such things in a long time. “Where… where did these come from?” McDon asked Finn with astonishment.
Seeing that Finn had brought a lot of food, some of the wariness vanished from McDon’s eyes.
“I brought them from where I was before. Though much time has passed, the food is well preserved,” Finn said with a smile.
“Eat.” Finn immediately took out two sausages and two breads and handed them to McDon and Lola Collins, regardless that the labels were written in Flame Nation’s language, which they couldn’t read anyhow.
“Wait.” As Laura was about to grab one, McDon suddenly shouted, and Laura quickly drew back her hand.
“What’s the matter?” Finn asked, slightly puzzled.
“This… there are too many. You didn’t bring much food, we cannot be so extravagant. There are three of us here, and finding food is tough. If we finish it all at once, we’ll be left without,” McDon hesitated for a moment, looked at Finn and said cautiously.
“Don’t worry about it. After we finish this, we’ll find more. There should be lots of places in the city with food,” After more than two years, most of the city’s food should’ve been consumed. Even if there was the remaining, it would likely have spoiled. However, some must have slipped through the crack, and Finn believed he could find them.
Although Finn didn’t bring a lot of food, there’s also not that few either. To merely feed two children, it should be enough for the three of them to eat for several days.
“Just eat it,” seeing McDon still hesitating, Finn quickly took one of the bags of bread, opened it, took out a bottle of mineral water, opened it, and handed them to Laura.
Smelling the sweet aroma from the bread, Laura swallowed, glanced at her own brother and saw that he had no objections. She quickly stretched out her hand to snatch the bread from Finn’s hand and ate it in an unsophisticated manner. “It…it’s delicious,” she said as she enjoyed it, unable to help but groan like a kitten.
Finn quickly opened another sausage and handed it to McDon. Seeing that Finn had already opened it, McDon obviously couldn’t resist, he reached out to take it, bit off a small piece, and his face showed a satisfied expression.
Watching the two kids enjoy something that would have been deemed as junk food in his old timeline as if it were a delicious feast, Finn couldn’t put his feelings into words, but it didn’t feel great.
Shortly after, McDon and Laura finished eating, but it was clear that they were not full. But no matter how much Finn encouraged them to eat more, they refused to do so. After hesitating for a moment, Finn did not insist anymore. He simply handed the food to Laura and McDon. “You keep the food. I don’t have anywhere else to go, so consider it as my rent for staying here, alright?” Finn laughed and said to the two of them.
A look of indescribable emotion flashed in McDon’s eyes. He stared at Finn for a long time before carefully nodding his head and saying, “Okay.”
