Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 1339 - 1389: Fire Attack
Chapter 1339: Chapter 1389: Fire Attack
At this moment, Li Yifei was still in the jungle of Miaojiang. Once again, he found a spot and woke up Na Yi.
Na Yi smacked her lips, hugged Li Yifei, then opened her eyes. After adjusting to the darkness around her, a look of confusion immediately appeared on her face. She started searching for the tent.
Li Yifei held her small hand and gestured while explaining, "The tent is gone, we’ll have to sleep outside."
Na Yi quickly understood, though she still appeared puzzled. She couldn’t comprehend how the tent could be lost when sleeping inside it.
However, Na Yi always obeyed Li Yifei’s words willingly. As long as she could stay with him, whether inside a tent or not didn’t matter. Having lived in the mountain village for so long, her home wasn’t particularly comfortable to begin with, so sleeping outdoors didn’t seem like a hardship to her.
That night passed without incident for Li Yifei. The next day, he and Na Yi set out once again, walking leisurely forward without trying to hide their tracks.
Since their opponents were capable of deploying special forces, it meant the ones trying to deal with him were undoubtedly people from Huaxia. This suggested that it was likely the work of one of the major families. Among those wishing to see him dead, the most likely culprits were the Song Family and the Sun Family. It surprised Li Yifei that these prominent families from the two provinces could extend their reach to Miaojiang.
Of course, it wasn’t impossible for other families to be involved, so Li Yifei aimed to lure them into making another move, leading him to their ringleader. Only then could he launch a counterattack.
Because of Na Yi, Li Yifei couldn’t move as swiftly as he did when he first ventured into the jungle alone. Even though Na Yi had grown up in the mountains, she wouldn’t be able to sustain such a relentless pace. As a result, they proceeded with intermittent stops. Moreover, Na Yi, being in the throes of fresh romantic love, wasn’t in a hurry to leave. To her, this journey felt like a honeymoon of sorts.
In their gradual and leisurely travels, Na Yi suddenly pointed ahead, her voice bursting with excitement. Li Yifei followed her direction and saw, atop a cliff, a small waterfall framed by bamboo forests—a truly picturesque sight. Together, they approached the waterfall.
Up close, they discovered something unexpected. Beneath the waterfall lay a small pool, circular in shape, with a diameter of about ten meters. The pool wasn’t very deep, roughly one meter, yet its water was crystal clear, revealing tiny fish swimming within.
Na Yi gleefully rushed to the pool’s edge and dipped her hand into it. She immediately broke into joyous laughter, waving enthusiastically for Li Yifei to come over.
Li Yifei joined her at the poolside and submerged his hand into the water. The refreshing coolness was indescribably soothing, especially given the oppressive heat of Miaojiang in May. His body, drenched in sweat for days, welcomed the icy touch of the water—a sensation of pure relief.
Na Yi played with the water for a while but quickly grew unsatisfied. She turned to Li Yifei, her face blushing, and gestured toward the pool, indicating she wanted to go in for a swim.
Li Yifei hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement. Na Yi promptly began removing her clothes in excitement. Having shared sleeping arrangements for the past few days, Li Yifei didn’t shy away. Soon enough, Na Yi had stripped down to just her underwear before glancing back at him.
Li Yifei rubbed his nose, understanding her intent. Feeling slightly awkward, he nodded and turned away.
He was immediately greeted by Na Yi’s cheerful giggles, followed soon after by the sound of splashing water—she’d jumped into the pool.
Hearing the splashes and Na Yi’s laughter, Li Yifei couldn’t resist turning back. Though their relationship was riddled with complications, with their destinies now intertwined, avoiding the reality seemed meaningless. He directed his gaze toward Na Yi.
Na Yi was sitting in the pool, with only her head visible above the water. Her hair was soaked and draped smoothly over her back. Although her body was submerged, the pool’s clarity allowed Li Yifei to see her form faintly.
Meeting Li Yifei’s gaze, Na Yi gave a bashful yet sweet smile, not shying away but instead inviting his eyes.
Time appeared to pause as the two locked eyes, a peculiar emotion brewing between them.
"Li Yifei... you... come down," Na Yi said in her imperfect Chinese.
Li Yifei hesitated briefly. Since arriving in Miaojiang, he hadn’t had the chance to bathe properly. Even at Na Yi’s house, he had only performed basic washing. His body felt unbearable, and the refreshing water beckoned him.
"Li Yifei, come down, together," Na Yi called again.
Finally making up his mind, Li Yifei stripped off his clothes quickly, leaving nothing behind.
Na Yi saw Li Yifei’s bare body for the first time, and her cheeks turned scarlet. Still, she boldly continued to look, her eyes glowing intriguingly.
With a splash, Li Yifei jumped into the pool, sending water onto Na Yi’s face.
Na Yi laughed heartily, clapping her hands and splashing water back at Li Yifei.
Surrounded by the cool water, Li Yifei felt an overwhelming sense of comfort, his recent frustrations temporarily lifted. He couldn’t help but laugh out loud, retaliating playfully by splashing water at Na Yi. freewebnσvel.cѳm
After some playful splashing, they both settled down in the pool, maintaining a two-meter distance. After a while, Na Yi began inching closer to Li Yifei.
Li Yifei didn’t shy away. Once she drew nearer, he took her hand, causing Na Yi to beam with happiness. She leaned in closer, resting directly against Li Yifei’s chest.
Despite their intimacy, their actions were restrained. Na Yi, innocent as a blank page, seemed unaware of the nuances of conjugality and didn’t grasp the deeper meanings of marriage beyond sharing a living space.
Li Yifei, for his part, had no intention of taking things further with Na Yi. He was internally conflicted. For Na Yi’s sake, he knew he’d have to forgo intimate moments with his wife in the future. Taking such liberties now felt impossible, leaving him with a despondent ache inside.
"Alright, let’s head out," Li Yifei patted Na Yi’s shoulder and motioned toward the bank.
Though reluctant, Na Yi obediently nodded. Together, they climbed out of the pool. While dressing, Na Yi stole glances at Li Yifei’s body, her lips curling into a sly smile, leaving Li Yifei somewhat embarrassed.
Once he was fully dressed, Li Yifei regained his composure. Interestingly, seeing him naked seemed to make Na Yi feel even closer to him. She clung tightly to his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.
Li Yifei, however, felt a touch of melancholy, wondering how long Na Yi’s happiness could possibly last.
By dusk, Li Yifei and Na Yi arrived at a cliffside. As they prepared to spend the night, lacking a tent, they gathered dry grass to make a bed and a few large leaves to use as makeshift covers.
At two in the morning, the time when people sleep most soundly and their alertness is at its lowest, two shadowy figures appeared atop the cliff. Peering down, they saw the two sleeping close to one another.
The figures moved silently, their steps cautious and precise to avoid making any noise. Finally reaching the cliff edge, they peeked down to confirm the situation. Exchanging glances filled with delight, they raised their hands and gave a subtle signal.
Initially, nothing seemed to happen, but within minutes, flames erupted from the surrounding bamboo forest. The fire spread rapidly, rising above the height of the bamboo, accompanied by crackling sounds—the bamboo exploding as it burned. The noise intensified, resembling the relentless rattle of machine guns.
At the first sound, Li Yifei woke up abruptly. Noticing the raging fire, alarm surged through him. The flames had started far enough away that he hadn’t noticed initially, but now it was too late—the inferno surrounded them on three sides, with the cliff as their only escape.
Na Yi woke up as well. Seeing the fire, she screamed in panic and clung to Li Yifei’s arm tightly.
Li Yifei patted her hand to calm her, saying, "Don’t be afraid." He then wrapped an arm around her waist and dashed toward the cliff.
But in that moment, a large amount of liquid was poured down from the cliff’s edge, followed by a burst of maniacal laughter. Flames ignited instantly, engulfing the cliff’s edge with fire even fiercer than the one in the bamboo forest. The liquid was evidently gasoline or something similar.
Li Yifei reacted swiftly, though the searing heat still scorched him, nearly resulting in burns.
"Haha! Li Yifei, aren’t you a great fighter? Don’t you always come out on top? Let’s see how you escape this fire!"
"Haha! In a moment, we’ll head down and feast on roasted pig. Li Yifei, here’s wishing you a smooth journey to the afterlife!"
Surrounded by flames on all sides, with the fire raging fiercely, even someone as skilled as Li Yifei stood no chance against such a calamity. It seemed impossible for him and Na Yi to survive.
