Super God-Level Top Student-Chapter 702 - 274: Why Don’t You Release the Thesis Already!
Mid-June at Xi Lin Mathematics Institute was marked by two significant events.
One was Edward Whitten's special report on Friday, and the other was the wedding of the school's well-known professor, Li Jian Gao, on Sunday.
The former was actively publicized on the official website, as if the institute wished it could announce to the entire country.
Xu Dajiang was just short of having Dou Dou help him promote it.
As for the latter, Li Jian Gao still didn't want too many people to know about it; he didn't even notify many of his colleagues.
However, once word got out, it naturally spread to the workplace.
Initially, Li Jian Gao hadn't even told his good friends like Jiang University's Zhang Chunlei, Liu Jian, Chen Xujing, Wang Ming, since they all lived in different cities, and it would be inconvenient to travel just for the weekend.
But within just a few days, not only did his old friends find out, but any professor who had ever met him started calling. In short, an invitation was a must, and attendance at the wedding was obligatory.
In the end, it became a secret everybody knew, and all efforts to keep it private were in vain.
Moreover, Li Jian Gao came to his senses.
Everyone had planned quite well.

Since Edward Whitten was visiting Xi Lin, and there was also a report, it was perfect timing: attend the report on Friday, stay in Xi Lin for a day on Saturday, attend the wedding at noon on Sunday, and then each would return home by high-speed train in the afternoon. Simply perfect.
Since everyone was coming, the issue that troubled Li Jian Gao was that he had initially planned a simple event, booking only three tables and preparing an extra one. When he called the hotel to add more tables, there were no spaces left.
Clearly, four tables were not enough for so many guests.
Fortunately, Li Jian Gao had taken some advice from Xu Dajiang.
His own influence might not have been sufficient, but Qiao Ze should have enough influence. He simply made a call to Qiao Ze.
Qiao Ze, of course, would not bother with such matters and directly spoke to Su Mucheng about it.
Little student Su might not have been so powerful, but thanks to Qiao Ze's influence, her father had become a well-known figure in Xi Lin by now.
After several phone calls, they simply switched to a higher-end hotel and booked the entire restaurant.
Su Lixing didn't discuss money with Li Jian, saying bluntly, "You're Qiao Ze's mentor, and I'm Qiao Ze's future father-in-law. We are practically family, and in the future, we should look out for each other, so talking about money is meaningless! Furthermore, I should thank you for bringing Qiao Ze to Xi Lin; otherwise, this marriage would not have been possible! So, we won't make a big fuss about the red envelope, just a token. You don't have to worry about the hotel expenses, either. Don't talk about it anymore; any more would be pretentious."
The truth was, Li Jian Gao, a scholarly professor, was no match for a businessman like Su Lixing, who had toughened up over decades of entrepreneurship and social struggles. He was quickly defeated in a brief exchange.
And so, amidst daily bombardments of phone calls and WeChat messages, Li Jian Gao finally reached Friday.
The day Edward Whitten was to give his special lecture in the large conference hall.
...
Friday morning, Mathematics Research Institute, Qiao Ze's office.
After spending over two hours reading papers and jotting down notes, Edward Whitten stretched languidly, turned to the always quiet Qiao Ze, and asked, "Are you going to attend my report this afternoon?"
"Will you talk about something deeper than what we usually discuss at the report?" Qiao Ze looked up and asked.
"Obviously not. In fact, it's not possible to go into depth on such occasions. You know, there isn't enough time; it's only possible to touch on very superficial content," Edward Whitten replied.
"Then what's the point of my going? To waste time?" Qiao Ze retorted, then shifted his gaze back to the computer screen before him.
Edward Whitten was somewhat annoyed.
Qiao Ze was good in many ways, but his complete disregard for social niceties was frustrating.
Was wasting two hours a crime?
He had specifically attended two of Qiao Ze's reports in Huaxia and was now conducting one right at Qiao Ze's doorstep, yet this guy just couldn't be bothered to attend.
"What I meant to say is... well, in your Huaxia terminology, it's reciprocity, right?"
Qiao Ze looked up at Edward Whitten, his expression contemplative.
After a moment, Qiao Ze's brutally honest reply made him cringe.
"You're too active in the academic world, frequently attending various conferences and reports, which seriously affects research efficiency. To me, you're a negative example."
Suddenly, he didn't feel much like inviting Qiao Ze anymore.
The young man was no fun.
In contrast, Dean Xu Dajiang was more adorable.
"Qiao Ze, do you have friends?" Edward Whitten couldn't help asking.
Qiao Ze considered it for a moment and answered uncertainly, "That depends on how you mathematically define a friend."
Edward Whitten was taken aback and finally said, "Qiao Ze, friends can't be defined mathematically!"
Qiao Ze thought for a while and then said, "Not necessarily, it can be explained through graph theory. Set up an undirected graph, for instance, G=(V,E), where V is the set of vertices in graph G, with each vertex representing a person. E is the set of edges, where each edge {u,v}∈E represents a friendship between vertices u and v."
After a moment of careful consideration, Qiao Ze added, "Well, if we understand it in this way, then I suppose I have 1.5 friends and one girlfriend."
Edward Whitten furrowed his brow and asked, "1.5 friends?"
"Yeah, each of the three roommates counts as half a friend, which adds up to 1.5 friends," Qiao Ze nodded, affirming the conclusion.
