Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution-Chapter 1086 - : The Death Penalty Cannot Be Avoided
Chapter 1086 -1086: The Death Penalty Cannot Be Avoided
“Star Constellation Sea, didn’t you say just to watch quietly? What is happening now?” Lin Shen was anxious, wanting Star Constellation Sea to quickly contact the Jade Emperor to see if there was still hope for salvation.
“Is there something wrong?” Star Constellation Sea retorted.
“Something wrong? The death sentence has been passed, six votes approved, unanimous approval, what could be wrong?” Lin Shen felt frustrated, so much so that he could barely hold back from cursing.
“Nothing’s wrong, isn’t this how it should be?” Star Constellation Sea replied, still oblivious to the seriousness of the situation.
“Still ‘nothing wrong’? Quickly, contact the Jade Emperor for me!” Lin Shen’s patience was running thin.
“Let me confirm once again, the one you’re trying to save is Great Divine Officer Shi Zhongqing, right?” Star Constellation Sea asked leisurely.
“Correct.” Lin Shen answered immediately, eager for Star Constellation Sea to speed up.
“Then there’s no mistake. You’re trying to save Shi Zhongqing, and now everything is proceeding as expected, isn’t it? What could be out of order?” Star Constellation Sea said.
“I’m trying to save Shi Zhongqing… yet now it’s already unanimously passed… about to execute… death… sentence…” Lin Shen’s voice trailed off, as if realizing something. His mind buzzed, and his eyes widened in disbelief. “What do you mean by that… are you saying… the one sentenced to death isn’t Great Divine Officer Shi Zhongqing?”
Lin Shen found it hard to believe that the reality might align with what he feared, but Star Constellation Sea soon gave him a definitive answer.
The entire Celestial Court thought Shi Zhongqing was done for, about to face execution.
Wu Qing couldn’t suppress the excitement swelling in his heart, a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
This was the most impressive move he had made since years of infiltrating the Celestial Court, aside from climbing to the status of Acting Great Divine Officer.
With Shi Zhongqing eliminated, the God-making Race’s people strategically placed in the Central Heaven Star Divine Palace had a great chance to ascend to the Great Divine Officer position, bringing them closer to overthrowing Celestial Court’s rule.
“Once Shi Zhongqing is dead, Lin Shen won’t escape death either. You really shouldn’t have come to the Celestial Court, and you definitely shouldn’t have opposed my God-making Race.” Wu Qing’s heart was overjoyed. Were it not for his position on the God Beheading Platform, and the fact that the entire Celestial Court was watching, he might have burst out laughing.
He knew Tian was Lin Shen—had long known Lin Shen’s true identity. Initially, it didn’t seem noteworthy to him; he merely made a casual move to keep Lin Shen’s fate in his grasp, to be used when necessary or eliminated when he wasn’t.
Who could have guessed that this casual move involving Lin Shen would unexpectedly lead to Shi Zhongqing’s downfall, perfectly tying everything together?
“Great Divine Officer Shi… you shouldn’t have been so foolish…” Wu Qing sighed, feigned regret, and spoke to Shi Zhongqing.
Shi Zhongqing replied indifferently, “One grows muddled with old age, but I am far from that stage. However, you should prepare yourself better.”
Wu Qing chuckled, paying no heed to Shi Zhongqing’s words. At this point, there was nothing Shi Zhongqing could say that could change the outcome. The faint doubts Wu Qing harbored before were now irrelevant.
The radiance from the six Great Emperor statues surged, and two stone platforms gleamed with an intense light.
Everyone knew the time had come—a sinner was about to be sent to the God Beheading Platform to face execution.
Suddenly, one stone platform’s light extinguished, turning pitch black, and the figure atop the platform vanished.
“What’s happening… What’s going on?” Those watching the God Beheading Platform froze, their eyes fixed on the stone tablet in stunned silence.
The extinguished stone platform was not the one Shi Zhongqing stood on. It was Wu Qing’s platform.
Shi Zhongqing remained standing firmly on his platform, surrounded by glowing light. Instead, Wu Qing’s stone platform had gone dark, and he had appeared before the stone tablet, bound by chains of Order Light, hanging in a five-horse-drawn-and-quarter disposition before the tablet.
“It’s a mistake… the one to be executed is Shi Zhongqing… he’s the defendant… I’m the plaintiff…” Wu Qing struggled vehemently, barely restraining the urge to curse as he loudly shouted toward the six Great Emperor statues.
Everyone, like Wu Qing, initially thought the God Beheading Platform had made an error, mistakenly swapping the plaintiff and defendant, sending the wrong person to the platform.
But in the millions of years the God Beheading Platform had existed, it had never made a mistake. Those who were more lucid now wore deeply complex expressions.
The other Great Divine Officers from various Star Regions frowned as they looked at Shi Zhongqing, unsure what method the old man had employed to send the plaintiff to the execution stage instead—an occurrence unprecedented in history.
“No mistake. Following a joint trial, the plaintiff was found to have instructed subordinates to deliberately kill the Star Divine Official, falsely accused the Great Divine Officer, and committed an unforgivable crime. The death sentence is immediately enforced.” The stone tablet emitted radiant light, accompanied by a cold, machine-like voice devoid of emotion.
“I didn’t do it… I refuse to accept this… The evidence is here… It was Shi Zhongqing who killed the Star Divine Official, not me… Why am I being convicted… Why isn’t he being punished…” Wu Qing was both angry and terrified, unable to comprehend the judgment. Such an outcome had never occurred before.
“You may refuse to accept it,” the mechanical voice emanated from the stone tablet again, “but the death sentence is irrevocable.”
As the voice fell, lightning erupted from the stone tablet. Strange bolts of thunder and lightning arose from the chains of Order Light, surging into Wu Qing’s body.
In an instant, Wu Qing’s body thrashed uncontrollably, as if struck by a paralyzing shockwave.
Even someone as formidable as Wu Qing stood no chance against the punishment of the God Beheading Platform, his body losing all control under the relentless lightning strikes.
This lightning was no ordinary force; it directly stripped Wu Qing of his cultivation, sending him tumbling down to the mortal realm.
On the stone tablet, a peculiar image appeared—a Faceless Divine Spirit holding a massive blade, slashing toward the suspended Wu Qing as the lightning continued to bombard him.
Although it was a mere projection, the blade seemed to transcend dimensions. Cutting through the two-dimensional projection into the three-dimensional realm, the slash struck Wu Qing’s head.
With a crisp sound, Wu Qing’s head separated from his body, flying off the platform with blood spraying everywhere.
Having already been cleansed by lightning and stripped of all abilities and strength, Wu Qing was utterly mortal at this point. His severed head marked his instant and irreversible death, with no possibility of resurrection.
Everyone watched the scene unfold in stunned silence, their expressions frozen as if encased in ice.
A mere few seconds ago, no one would have anticipated such an outcome.
Shi Zhongqing was unharmed; Wu Qing had died instead. This result was bewildering and difficult for all present to accept.
Shi Zhongqing was clearly the defendant—with clear evidence incriminating him—so why was Wu Qing the one executed? Why did he die?
“That old man… what exactly did he do…” All the Star Divine Officials looked toward Shi Zhongqing, who appeared visibly aged. The fear rooted in their hearts deepened as they stared at him.
Yet Shi Zhongqing’s outward demeanor remained calm, though his inner thoughts churned: “As I thought, he is who he is.”
