Summoner Online: I Became the Tutorial Boss with a 999+ Villainess-Chapter 35: Killing a red player.
Chapter: The Red Cult
After staring at her for a while, trying to make a decision, he finally looked up at the players.
’Red Players. If I was a normal player, these are the kind of people I would try my very hardest not to cross paths with. They are everywhere, which sounds normal until you learn they are all connected one way or the other.’
He narrowed his gaze, analyzing the threat level.
’If I had to guess, this girl here is probably being hunted by them. Knowing how realistic this game is, I would not write off the fact players can kill other players for sport. Still, when you die, you return back to the game a week later or respawn at the nearest temple. Her reaction here is a bit too much.’
Kai assumed she had to be one of those unemployed gamers that poured too much emotion into a game, just like he was in his former world.
And just as much as he did not want to get involved with any Red Players, there was one thing that changed his mind pretty quickly.
A greedy grin spread on his inner face.
’They always have sick loot! I don’t know if they are connected to the devs or something like that, but I know for a fact they always have the highest level of loot with a low drop rate for everyone else. If I kill them, I will definitely get something worth it. And even better, they all have bounties on their heads. I can see no other way to get rich quicker than this.’
But even with that said, Red Players were annoying. Going against one was the same as going against their entire group.
A cult, if you will.
If one dies, an entire squad would come running, without fail. It was almost certain, regardless of the game.
Kai focused his gaze on one of the Red Players.
[Name: ###]
[Hp: 100.]
[Level: 43]
’Of course their name is hidden. Typical.’
One by one, the Red Players stopped not too far away from where Kai was standing, their ominous presence changing the entire atmosphere of the place.
Lyra was quick to enter her protective mode, even before Kai could inform her they were enemies.
But other than that, she so desperately wanted her Master to abandon the human clinging to his leg. As a Demon, saving a human was one of the last thoughts that could cross her mind.
"What, another one? Today might just be my lucky day."
One of the Red Players, potentially the leader, walked in front of his teammates, and held a short sword to the side of his hip.
"I am glad. Killing you here will give relief to us of any further work. This is good."
Kai narrowed his gaze at their comment.
’They are attacking people at random?’
"Red Players. I assume your kind only attacks those who have wronged them. Are you now killing bystanders as well?" he spoke, his voice steady.
The entire place fell silent, followed by the sound of the players laughing their asses off.
Lyra frowned, her killing intent spiking.
"Now this is good. This is very good. I assume you must have not heard the news. But being a Level 23 player like yourself, surely even you aren’t that stupid to avoid the forums. Good shit is often there, I promise you."
The leader let out a mocking chuckle.
Then he pointed his sword at Kai.
"Attacking bystanders? Don’t be ridiculous. We are simply cleansing the virus before it spreads any further. In this new world, only the strong are worthy to survive. That is the rule, the law implemented by we, the Ascension Cult." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
’Ah, I knew it. They are part of those try-hard psycho players. Virus? Sigh, I guess any excuse goes if you are that desperate to kill a fellow player. That said, he did say something that intrigued me. I haven’t checked the forums in a while. Is there something there that probably needs my attention?’
For a brief second, he looked down at the trembling lady before his feet. She was so scared that she barely looked away from the ground.
Taking notice of her fears, Kai shifted his gaze away and looked at Lyra.
"Lyra."
"Yes, my Lord."
"Kill them. But leave the one who spoke to me just now. I have questions that need answers."
"Very well."
It happened in a flash.
All Lyra did was take a single step forward, and in the blink of an eye, she had appeared right behind the entire group, holding two bleeding hearts in her palms.
The red blood spewed on the ground, mana residuals following with every drip.
As expected, the two players whose hearts had been ripped from their chests immediately collapsed. Their bodies flickered, preparing to shatter like glass as their HP turned to 0.
The leader of the group immediately turned around, only to see two of his teammates were dead, and the last one was shaking already.
He wondered how she was able to move that fast, despite the fact he had a skill that allowed him to detect fast movement as someone whose class was a Thief.
With that thought came a frown on his face.
"Kill her! She just killed two of our own. End her right now!!!" his rage spewed out.
The last member, stupid enough to obey that blind order, drew his blade out, flames burning directly on the metal.
Then he launched forward. His movement was indeed fast, and would be hard for any regular person to keep tabs on.
But Lyra was no ordinary person.
She was from the race of a True Demon, and held the Level of 999.
Just as the man was about to slice her with his blade from the back, Lyra turned to face him, charging forward with her claws out, still soaked in the blood of the previous players.
Once she was close, the Red Player froze in shock.
Lyra’s face was very close to him, and despite the fact they were both slightly off the ground, it seemed like she had more movement control than he did.
Before he could do anything, Lyra stabbed him in the head with her entire hand coming out from the back of his skull.
Just like the first two players she killed, this one too went limp rather quickly.
Kai watched with a critical eye. He expected them to disappear instantly into data particles. It was how the game had always been.
However, to his surprise, he could still see their dead bodies on the ground.
Their injuries were visible for all to see. The blood was pooling, soaking into the dirt, refusing to fade away.
Unfortunately, he had no time to observe them for too long. The leader was already enraged.
Before his very eyes, he watched as Lyra killed all three of his teammates, with not a single trace of stress whatsoever on her face.
"Who the hell are you guys?" The leader dramatically swayed his hand to the side, panicking. "Those guys had artifacts that increased their vitality several folds! There is no way they would die that easily! Were you hackers before the game we—"
Slash!
Lyra flicked her finger at him, slicing his leg off in a split second.
All the leader knew was, one second he had been talking, and the very next he was lying on the ground, clutching a stump.
"You talk too much. Be quiet."
Lyra swept her hair to the back, walked past the legless man, and arrived right before her Lord.
