Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 430: Always There
"We’re getting married," I announced bluntly.
After his awesome proposal, I learnt soon after that Bradon already had a date in mind for our wedding and it was much faster than I had anticipated. To be accurate, he wanted our wedding to be a week after our engagement. Even more surprising was the fact that he had already made preparations for most of the major arrangements such as the venue. I wasn’t exactly shocked to find out that the most prestigious wedding organizer had gotten involved in the process.
The first person that I decided to tell in person was none other than my sister. I thought that this sudden announcement would surprise her, in a good way. However, the look of smug satisfaction on my sister’s face told me more than enough that she had seen this coming, and probably from miles away. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"Finally. Just about time. No, actually, way past the time. I was actually wondering if I would ever get to attend my little sister’s wedding in this life time," Diana said before rolling her eyes at me.
"Did you...talk to Bradon about this?" I asked without hiding my suspicions.
"Oh no! I would never do something like that," Diana quickly replied.
"Really?" I asked as I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Well, I guess I dropped him some very subtle hints. Honestly, I guess I don’t deserve any credit for this. It seemed like his mind was already made up when I talked to him about this and my words were just supporting his decision. It’s not like anyone can sway that stubborn man anyways," Diana confessed before flashing me a smile.
"I guess you’re right about that. I was a little surprised when he proposed all of a sudden..." I said softly.
"Just a little surprised?" Diana asked.
This time it was her turn to doubt my words. I quickly turned away to hide my embarrassed face. It wasn’t like me to feel this way over something so minor, but I could feel my blush burning on my cheeks.
"I’m looking forward to the wedding, and so much more!" Diana said, followed by a loud laugh.
Just when I was wondering what she meant by so much more, Diana wrapped her arms around me and pulled me close. She hugged me so tightly that I found it hard to breathe. I ended up laughing along with her just like we were two innocent young girls enjoying the moment together. The feel of her arms around me and the sound of our laughter reminded me of the good times we shared together when we were young. I felt like I would embrace both the ups and the downs along with her for the rest of our lives.
"Thank you," I thanked her all of a sudden.
"What for?" Diana asked after she released her hold on me.
Her face as a mask of curiosity as she stared at me with widened eyes. For a moment, I wasn’t sure what I had just thanked her for. Diana was surely a troublemaker, and in fact, she had been that way since we were kids. I guessed that nothing much has changed since then.
"For everything? I guess, and also for still being here with me," I replied with the best words that I could find.
"Don’t worry, sister dear. You’re stuck with me forever, just like how I’m stuck with you. Just like always, we’ll always be together from now on. Our parents won’t meddle in your life or mine anymore, thanks to you," Diana said before showing me a satisfied grin.
"I’m feel a little sorry about that," I confessed softly.
"Whatever for?" Diana asked as her brows furrowed together.
"Father lost all his power because of me. His political career is as good as gone. You might not enjoy all the privileges that you could before. I mean,
we’re practically nobody now," I responded.
"Isn’t that great? I’ve always wanted to be somewhat normal," Diana replied in such a carefree manner.
It felt as if nothing that I had done to our family affected her in anyway. Diana simply shrugged her shoulders and smiled brightly at me.
"What are you going to do from now on?" I asked her the question that had been burning in my mind.
"I don’t know. Do I have to do anything?" Diana replied immediately.
"I guess you don’t have to. It’s just, your engagement is now off..." I murmured.
"I talked to Anthony about that. He’s still sulking but, I guess he’ll get over it. He’s not over you yet, but we all have to move on soon or later. He’lls be fine," Diana reaffirmed as if she could tell that I was worried about Anthony too.
"You spoke to him?" I asked with disbelief.
"Of course. I told him that even if we are no longer engaged, we are still friends. We’ve known each other for so long, it’s not like we can suddenly become strangers. There were honestly times when I felt thankful that I was engaged to Anthony. He’s a nice guy, and I honestly don’t mind marrying him..." Diana said before letting out a sigh.
"But you know that you don’t love him..." I said what was probably on her mind.
"One day I’m going to find the love of my life," Diana said as she balled her fists with clear determination.
"Just give me a break already..." I mumbled.
Now it was my turn to roll my eyes skyward at her. Diana just laughed at my reaction. I was certain that Diana had not learnt any kind of lesson from all of her failed relationships. She was still on the lookout for a new adventure, and all I could do was pray that this time she would fall for the right guy.
"Maybe you and Anthony should get married for real," I suggested.
I was only half joking, because I was definitely half serious about it as well. Diana gave me a surprised look as if my suggestion was absolutely absurd.
