Chapter 1975: 560: I treat you like a brother, but you want to be my second sister-in-law_4.
Mary Perryne nodded, "That’s true, who asked my daughter to be so pretty!"
After the purchases, Mary Perryne had the items delivered to the trunk and then turned to Viola Thompson, "Viola, what shall we have for lunch?"
Viola thought for a moment, then decided to take her mother to experience the flavors of everyday life.
"Mom, let’s go eat spicy hot skewers," she said.
"Spicy hot skewers?" Mary Perryne was very curious, "Is that tasty?"
"You’ll see when we get there," Viola replied.
Viola took Mary Perryne to a small roadside stand.
The stand had been there for years, run by an elderly couple. It was very small but looked exceptionally clean at first glance.
Mary Perryne had never eaten spicy hot skewers before, and she didn’t even know how to choose.
Viola said with a smile, "You’ve never had this when you were dating dad?"
Mary Perryne asked curiously, "Is this what young people nowadays like to eat on dates?"
"Yeah." Viola nodded slightly.
Mary Perryne went on, "Back in our day, there was no such thing as spicy hot skewers!"
Dating thirty-four years ago was nothing as exciting as it is now.
Viola couldn’t help but ask, "So where did you and dad go on dates?"
Mary Perryne’s memory wandered back to the past, "We used to stroll down the streets together, watch movies, ride bikes to the suburbs. After dating for a year, we got married, and soon we had your eldest brother, then your second brother and younger brother, and finally, you. Viola, you have no idea how happy I was when I was pregnant with you."
Sadly, she hadn’t been able to fulfill her responsibilities as a mother afterward.
Mary Perryne continued, "You weren’t even a month old, and you had neonatal jaundice. The doctor suggested getting more sunlight, and that day as you were basking, I suddenly needed to use the restrooms. It never occurred to me, that in just two minutes, you would be gone..."
By the end, Mary Perryne was filled with self-reproach. She should have taken Viola with her, then they wouldn’t have been separated for eighteen years.
Viola embraced Mary Perryne and smiled, "Mom, it’s all in the past, don’t think too much about it."
Mary Perryne nodded.
She looked at her daughter, her heart brimming with happiness.
The heavens had still shown her favor.
They each picked out their favorite dishes and approached the cash register.
The shop owner, an elderly lady, asked with a smile, "Do you want it spicy or not spicy?"
Mary Perryne said, "Make it spicy."
"Okay," the old lady nodded, "I’ll make it mildly spicy. There’s chili on the table, feel free to add more if it’s not spicy enough for you."
"Thank you," they said.
Viola took out her phone to pay, but Mary Perryne was already handing a bill to the old lady, "Viola, what are you doing? How can you pay when you’re eating out with mom?"
With that, Mary Perryne turned to the old lady and smiled, "Auntie, no need for the change."
The two servings of spicy hot skewers cost a total of fifty-six yuan.
Small businesses aren’t easy to run.
As they talked, the two had returned to their seats.
While waiting for their meal, the old lady brought over a plate of fresh strawberries, saying with a smile, "Try the strawberries, see if they are sweet. They’re grown by us, pesticide-free."
Mary Perryne looked up, "Thank you, auntie. How much is this?"
"It’s on the house," the old lady smiled, "No charge." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Thank you," they said.
Strawberries are expensive in winter, especially organic ones that aren’t grown with pesticides or ripened forcefully, so Mary Perryne was quite surprised when the old lady said it was free.
Although it was a small gesture, Mary Perryne felt a warmth in her heart. This was the mutual dedication between people.
Viola tasted a strawberry.
"Is it good?" asked Mary Perryne.
Viola nodded, "It’s delicious, very sweet."
She loved sweets.
Especially Milk Tea.
Mary Perryne also picked one, "Indeed, it’s good!"
Before long, two bowls of aroma-filled spicy hot skewers were served at the table.
After a sip of the soup, Mary Perryne said with a smile, "This is really good indeed. No wonder young people like it. I’ll have to bring your dad here next time."
--
The next day came in a blink of an eye.
That day, Mary Perryne was extremely excited, waking up early to get dressed and groomed. She warned Sawyer Thompson, "You have to dress formally today, you need to make a good impression on the girl."
"Alright, I got it," Sawyer nodded.
Mary Perryne continued to vent, "Viola gets her disinterest in dressing up and grooming after you!"
