Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 986 : Little Spitfire
*Bianca*
I must admit this was a mistake. What in the hell was I thinking? I’ll tell you what I was thinking. I was thinking I would catch that little asshole Darion in the act of doing something wrong.
“Stay out of trouble,” Leo said. “You’re on thin ice with me, boy,” Leo said. “This is your last chance,” Leo kept saying.
Did that little brat listen? Of course, not. He did whatever he wanted. Just the other day, I watched as he made a deal with some shady looking characters. I pretended not to see. I didn’t tell Leo because I didn’t have any evidence of his wrongdoing, but I knew he was acting outside the lines of what Leo had laid down.
While I didn’t know all the rules Leo had set for Darion when he brought the hammer down, I was pretty sure it included exchanging money or whatever with people outside the family. I couldn’t be sure what Darion had been doing. I just knew it could not have been anything good.
From the time he came into our lives, I did not trust him. he was a boy to Leo’s man. He played games, thought only of himself, and did not have a family mentality. To be a leader of the family, the Don had to be a good man.
I knew the Don had to be tough as hell. Leo wasn’t Mister Sunshine himself, but he cared about the people and families he had under his care. He was like a father and boss at the same time.
Sure, I didn’t expect Darion to be like Leo and go around to family homes and hug babies, hand out candy to the young ones, and basket balls to the teenage boys and gift cards to the girls like he was some high-powered Santa, but I expected Darion to at least show a token effort toward pretending to care about the people he would eventually be responsible for.
So far, Darion had shown exactly who he cared about, himself. He was an arrogant narcissist with a bad attitude. He did not listen to Leo worth a damn. Franky did not like him either. Leo often said that Franky had not liked him at first either.
I could see where Leo was coming from because Franky had not cared much for me either. But there was something different about Darion that I could not quite put my finger on. Aside from the gambling, getting into debts, and being an overall spoiled brat that was playing at being the boss, he had a lot of underlying issues. I just had not figured them out yet.
I did not like that Leo kept giving him chances. I know I made a big deal about getting out of the life because I never wanted us to go through what we had with Michael again, nor did I want to leave the family led by someone who only had his own Interests at heart and would not take care of the family the way he should.
So, yes, I got my dumbass out of bed to go get something to drink to sooth my restlessness. I thought about warming some milk but nearly gagged at the thought. Nope, that wouldn’t do. then, of course, because I’m the nosiest person in the world, I had to follow Darion.
Okay, that was not the best thing for me to do. Majority of the time, I was pretty circumspect, but this was mine and Leo’s lives, not to mention the life of our child. So, like the smartest person in the world, I followed him to this race, thinking to catch him in the act.
It never occurred to me not to follow Darion. I did not even hesitate. I knew I had to have solid evidence that Darion had not changed and had no intentions of doing so to make Leo listen to reason. I swore sometimes that man was worse than a mule.
As I entered the arena, thinking to spy and take pictures of Darion’s deception, I was caught in the act and had to be rescued by my target. God, I was bad at this spying thing. The last time I followed him I was nearly caught because I had kicked a trash can.
This time I got caught in the act. Who was I kidding, I was going to get both of us killed at this rate. That little shit stood up for me. I was surprised, but I knew neither of us were supposed to be here.
I stayed to watch this mess unfold. Instead of wondering how the hell I could get out of the arena, I wondered why Darion was here. What was he up to? Maybe he was trying to make more money, but that was crazy. The family provided everything for him and I was sure Leo was paying him. That was the way it worked. At least, that was the way I thought it worked in our family.
While I was completely enthralled by the beginning of the race, I could hear a commotion over my shoulder. People were shouting and yelling. I thought I heard their shoes scuff against the floor, but all my attention was on the race. I was terrified how this was going to go.
What the hell was I doing here? There were so many things that could go wrong in this situation that I did not think I could count that high. I stared that the fast-moving cars as they raced over the track and thought how fast-moving cars and illicit substances did not make for a good combination.
As soon as I had the thought, one of the driver’s car spun out and crashed into a nearby wall. I stared in horror. A team of men ran to the car and pulled the man out. he looked as if he were unconscious, but I couldn’t tell from this far. All I knew was he was not moving and if I did not get out of here, I might not be either.
I kept watching Darion’s car. Frankly, I was surprised that Darion was doing so well. Even though I can’t stand him, and I would like to blame him for my being here, I hoped he did not hurt himself. Though he was doing well, and I would like to remain to make sure he did not get hurt like that other guy, the gang members beside me were getting more and more pissed at Darion’s accomplishment on the track.
I traced the movements of the other gang members from the corner of my eye, and when they seemed to be distracted by the race and money was exchanging hands, I turned and attempted to sneak back to my car. I silently wove my way through the crowd, but shit, someone spotted me, and I heard someone loudly exclaim, “ain’t that Leo’s girl.”
“Leo who?” another voice asked.
“You know, Leo, the Big Boss across town,” the first voice explained.
I kept trying to walk, but a strong set of fingers clapped around my right arm and spun me around to face them.
“Yep,” a tall man with spiked hair and an eyebrow ring said. He pointed his blunt finger at my face and agreed with the guy holding me. “See, I told you this was Leo’s girl.”
“Let me go,” I all but growled.
The guy holding me grinned down at me, and his buddies cracked up.
“Oh-oh, Jackson, you’d better watch out. Leo’s little spitfire is going to kick yo’ ass,” one of the other Angels said.
I wanted to do just that, but I would not know where to begin.
“I said, let me go. And do not touch me again,” I yelled giving it my best street girl attitude.
Jackson let me go, holding his hands up as if I had pulled a gun on him. oh, how I wish I had thought to bring one of Leo’s weapons with me.
“Sure, shorty, we ain’t animals, but you can’t leave. You gotta stay.”
“That’s right,” a smooth voice said from behind me.
Shit, I was surrounded. What was I going to do. now, the stupidity of my actions was starting to flow through me like acid. I felt helpless, as true to their word, they never touched me, but I was herded back to the sidelines where I was forced to watch a race I was terrified was going to get completely out of control.
In those moments surrounded by men in jackets that more than likely covered up their weapons, I remembered how I had defended both Leo and myself by taking down Michael in that field near the lake where he’d shot Leo. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
For the most part, I could take care of myself. I was able to fight back if I absolutely had to. It was not my first instinct to fight, but it was there underneath the surface waiting for a life-threatening event to break loose from me and fight like a wildcat.
I never wanted to feel helpless like this again. I never wanted to be trapped against my will even if no one touched me and I was held prisoner only by sheer force of will and out in public where everyone was witnessing it, but had no clue it was happening.
When the cars rounded the corner near where we stood watching the race, the yellow car with red and black lightning bolts on its sides struck Darion’s car to gain the upper hand. I stared in horror as the little yellow car spun out of control, flipped and burst into flames.
I turned, as the crowd around me erupted into an utter chaos of screams, shouts, running feet, and pushes and shoves. I tried to get out, but with all the smoke filling the area, I could not see beyond my own nose and I began coughing. I kept trying to move forward and tried to find my way to an exit, but I could not find my way out
My eyes watered. I shook with fear. Would my baby and I die here from smoke inhalation? Tears of frustration and fear ran down my face along with the sweat coating the rest of me. What was I going to do? I had to get us out of here.
Just when I was about to start losing my freaking mind and hyperventilating along with coughing, I was grabbed by someone through the darkness. I did not care if it were the devil himself saving me. I did not struggle and allowed whomever it was to pull me out of the smoke.
When I could finally see and had wiped all the tears and whatever other gunk that was in my eyes away, I was shocked to see that it was Darion who rescued me from a smokey and rather fiery death.
