Chapter 1020: Chapter 1020 : Impulsive Involvement

*Leo*

My heart raced as I sped down the hallway toward the headmaster’s office.

“Sir, you can’t just barge in here and-!” one of the secretaries protested.

I ignored her completely and continued my rampage down the hall, panic flaring in my gut.

I could have strangled Darion as soon as he called and informed me of Bianca’s little plan. She should know better than to pull something like this! Professor Kramer had a reputation for being dangerous and for not caring about his students.

That was the perfect recipe for trouble.

A couple more workers tried to stop me, but I pushed through them, not even sparing them a glance as I approached the big doors leading to the headmaster.

I was so attuned to Bianca now that as soon as I stepped into the building, I knew that she was there. It was as if there was an invisible tether that was leading me right to her. It must have stemmed from my primal need to be near her so that I could keep her safe.

I wouldn’t forgive myself if something happened to her. I already felt like I had failed to keep her safe since I didn’t know what she was planning. I should have paid closer attention. Maybe I could have predicted what she was going to do.

I scoffed and immediately dismissed the thought. I couldn’t stop her from doing something when she put her mind to it. She said so herself not that long ago and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That didn’t mean that I wasn’t going to try to keep her from dangerous situations though.

I barreled through the door, shoving it aside, causing the wood board to slam against the wall.

I immediately saw red at the scene before me.

My intense training made me want to scan the entire room for threats that weren’t immediately obvious but that impulse was quickly shoved aside when my eyes zeroed in on my tiny, vulnerable fiancee.

She was standing tall, her chin tilted up defiantly.

What caused me to see red was the man standing in front of her. Professor Kramer was easily a head taller than my fiancee and he had his large hand lifted above her, ready to strike.

I was between them in a flash, shielding Bianca. I quickly but gently moved her aside and snatched her attacker’s wrist, flipping it around so that I could pull his hand around and up the length of his back. I used my other hand to shove him as hard as I could against the thinly carpeted floor.

I heard the wind get knocked out of him and I found I didn’t care in the slightest that he was bordering on elderly. No one touches my woman.

“Leo!” Bianca gasped.

I glanced over at her, scanning her body for any sign of injuries. I calmed very slightly when I saw that she was unharmed. Her eyes were wide with shock and a touch of fear but she was fine.

I wouldn’t be able to say the same for the man beneath me in just a moment.

“Let me up this instant!” Professor Kramer demanded.

I felt my blood simmer and I pressed him further against the floor, pulling his wrist up even higher up his back, causing him to yelp. “You are in no position to be making demands,” I barked at him. “Especially when you dared to lay a hand on my fiancee.”

I felt Kramer stiffen and I was certain he knew exactly who I was now. My reputation preceded me, just like Darion’s did.

Except I was far more dangerous, even without the generational wealth to back me up.

“I would shut the fuck up if I were you,” I intoned dangerously, squeezing the man’s wrist hard to ensure that there would be a nasty bruise around it. I then turned to look over my shoulder at the headmaster.

The older man looked rooted to his spot, his blue eyes wide and frightened.

“You are going to offer my fiancee compensation immediately,” I ordered dangerously. “Or we are going to have even more problems than I plan to reign down on this fucking excuse for an educational institution.”

The headmaster had the good sense to nod in agreement. “Yes, of course,” he said, lowering his head. “I will leave you to handle the situation however you see fit.”

I glowered at him, not at all pacified. “Then call the fucking cops and have this guy arrested.”

The headmaster’s hands were shaking as he obeyed, picking up his phone and making the call.

Lucky for Kramer, a couple of security guards barged in. I stepped away, allowing them to apprehend Kramer and place him in handcuffs. “The police are on their way,” one guard told me.

I didn’t bother to question how they knew what had happened. I imagined there were cameras all over this place.

The headmaster, Bianca, and I answered a few questions from the security guards before I led my fiancee into the hallway. I refused to leave until I saw with my own eyes that Kramer was arrested and escorted off of the school grounds.

What was more important than getting that bastard locked up though was ensuring that Bianca was alright. I put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her from the room, not wanting her anywhere near Kramer.

“Are you alright?” I asked tightly, looking down at her. “You could be going into shock.”

“I’m fine,” she said but her voice was shaky.

I silently led her over to a padded bench that was set in the middle of the hallway. I helped her sit. She did so with a little difficulty because of her very pregnant belly.

I kneeled in front of her, taking her face in my hands and stroking my thumbs over her cheekbones. I felt her shudder and her eyes fluttered shut. I could feel her pulse beating rapidly. “Shh, you’re safe now,” I murmured to her, needing her to calm down. This stress couldn’t be good for her, or the baby.

She let out a shaky breath but I felt her relax slightly. Finally, she looked up into my eyes. “How did you know where I was?”

I knew she was just genuinely curious but it was the wrong thing to ask me at that moment. Her question brought back the very real fear that I felt when I received the call from Darion, and with it, my very real anger at my little fiancee for putting herself in danger.

I kept my tone as level as I could but I did feel my eyes narrow down at her, despite my best effort. “Darion was worried about you so he called me,” I said, my voice clipped.

I looked into her eyes, waiting to see some remorse.

There was none to be seen. Bianca’s jaw dropped and her eyes only showed betrayal. “That little jerk,” she snapped.

My temper flared. “For once in his life, Darion did the right thing by informing me of your little stunt,” I told her firmly. I glared hard at her. “You, on the other hand...”

Finally, Bianca had the good sense to look nervous. Thankfully, she didn’t look afraid of me and it gave me the courage to lower my hands to her shoulders and squeeze them firmly, relief flooding me that I was able to hold her safe in my arms.

Bianca swallowed hard. “I didn’t expect Kramer to react like that,” she said in a small, mouse-like voice.

“You didn’t know what to expect,” I corrected her tersely and it took me a moment to realize I was now speaking between my teeth. “Which is exactly why you shouldn’t have just dived into this situation. Anything could have happened to you!”

Bianca flinched when my voice rose in volume. She glanced around as if to make sure we were the only ones in the hallway. “I knew you wouldn’t want me to do this but I had to,” she argued, hardening her features. “This was my issue and I needed to deal with it on my own. I couldn’t bother you with-”

“I’m going to stop you right there,” I intoned darkly. I gripped her chin hard in my hand, forcing her to look up at me. “I cannot believe you did this. You shouldn’t have come here alone and definitely shouldn’t have done so without telling me!”

Bianca opened her mouth to argue but I silenced her with a look. I was far from done.

“Darion is still injured,” I reminded her curtly. “He wouldn’t have been able to protect you if something happened. I would have stepped in if things went too far and now they have!”

Bianca pressed her lips together, staring up at me with large eyes.

I cursed inwardly and then took her face in my hands again, my fingers splaying across her smooth cheeks. “You scared the shit out of me,” I said roughly. “Don’t ever do that to me again.”

Bianca studied my eyes for a long moment before she nodded, actually dropping her eyes with shame. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”

Her voice was so small and so sincere that it actually released some of the tension in my body. I hugged her tightly to me, needing to feel her warmth against me, needing to once again convince myself that this was real and she was really alright.

About a half hour later, we stood in front of the building, Bianca tucked close to my side as we watched a burly police officer shove Kramer into the pack of a cruiser. I tightened my arm around her when she shivered as Kramer sent her a dark look.

I sighed when the car disappeared around the corner, running my hand up and down Bianca’s arm. “Let’s get you home,” I murmured gently.

“I’m incredibly sorry about this whole thing,” the headmaster said, suddenly appearing in front of us. “You can rest assured that we will be doing a full investigation for all of the claims that your fiancee gathered from her fellow classmates. Please let me know if I can do anything else to help you through these disturbing events.”

My temper flared as I remembered how he just stood by while Bianca was nearly attacked. “You’re lucky that there was no claim against you and that you aren’t on your way to where Kramer is as well,” I spat. I narrowed my eyes. “If there is even a slight bit of trouble toward Bianca because of this school, I will be taking action.”

I took Bianca’s hand firmly and pulled her away from the headmaster.

The drive home was dead silent. I was still bristling over what happened, my anger only ebbing slightly. It wasn’t enough to have Kramer going behind bars. I wanted to pummel him for what he almost did to Bianca.

It would take a while for me to get this horrible knot out of my gut from the worry I felt when I got that call from Darion.

Right now, I just needed to get Bianca home so I could hold her. I needed her close.

I opened the passenger side door for Bianca when we got to the house, immediately putting an arm around her waist to tuck her protectively against my side as we walked up to the front door.

Bianca was quiet too as we got ready for bed. She was staring straight ahead as she put on her nightgown and got into bed.

I furrowed my eyebrows and knelt in front of her to look into her eyes. “Are you alright?” I asked quietly.

When she met my eyes, I was surprised to see fierce determination in them. “I want to be involved with the Valentinos,” she said firmly.
