Submitting to My Best Friend's Dad-Chapter 1014 : Down To It
*Leo*
“It’s weird that I’m leaving before you are for once.”
I looked up from my office desk to find Bianca in the doorway, all dressed up for school. She chose an extra adorable outfit today. She was wearing a soft cream-colored blouse that accentuated her curves nicely. She paired it with an olive green skirt that flared out and fell to her knees.
My mouth thinned. She was going to get a lot of attention from boys today. I tried not to think about it too much, knowing that I had nothing to worry about but I still didn’t like the thought of guys staring openly at her when she looked so good.
I smiled gently at her with a look that I only reserve for her. “True, it isn’t every day that I get the chance to work from home,” I said with a wry chuckle.
This scene that we were creating did feel deliciously domestic for some reason. It made me wish that our lives were normal but I knew it was still going to be a while before we could have that provincial life that I promised Bianca.
I was staying at the compound this morning because Franky would be coming over for an important meeting. We were going to discuss the very real possibility of me going to interrogate Andre.
My friend also had the results from the lab that I was waiting on. We had the mysterious white powder tested to figure out what was in the darn stuff and what made it so potent.
It was going to be a huge day, I could already tell.
“Are you alright?” Bianca asked, stepping fully into the room and shutting the door behind her. It was unlikely that anyone would come up here since most of the activity was in the downstairs area but I appreciated her being careful anyway.
It was hard to trust anyone nowadays.
I gave my fiancee a look up and down before deciding that I wasn’t going to burden her with my current worries. She already knew that I was going to be having this meeting. I didn’t need to further add to any anxieties she might be having on the issue. She was going to school and needed to focus.
So, instead of answering honestly, I leaned back in my office chair and gave her a lazy smirk. “Why yes, Miss Bianca, I do believe we have a problem.”
Her eyebrows flew upward as she took in my tone and my pose. One corner of her mouth tilted up as well. “And what problem would that be, Mr. Leo?”
I hummed and pretended to think about it but then I looked pointedly at her outfit, my eyes running all over her. “I don’t believe that this outfit you have on is quite appropriate for the academic setting.”
I was teasing her of course. Her outfit wasn’t too revealing. There was just a touch of cleavage peeking out from above the top button of her blouse. The hem of her skirt reached her knees but it still left more of her creamy legs exposed than I cared for.
Bianca raised an eyebrow and then looked down at her outfit. She could tell that I wasn’t serious but like the goddess that she was, she played along. “I’m afraid I don’t know what you mean,” she practically purred. She turned her hips so that the fabric of her skirt skimmed along her thighs enticingly. “I thought this was a cute outfit. I’ve worn similar things to school before.”
“It is an extremely cute outfit,” I told her but then I crooked a finger at her. “But I’m afraid that you are going to have to present yourself for an inspection before you run off to school.”
Bianca gave me a hooded, sultry look but obeyed me and crossed the room to stand in front of my desk. I was pleased that she clearly knew she looked amazing in that outfit. Due to her pregnancy, she had been having a hard time finding clothes that fit her the way she wanted.
I thought that it was an exaggeration when people said women glowed during pregnancy but I knew what they meant now. Not only did Bianca’s skin seem to be radiating, her round stomach and extra curves made her look even more like the deity I saw her as.
“That won’t do,” I said, crooking a finger at her again, ordering her to step around my desk to my side. Once she was within arm’s reach, I grabbed her wrist and tugged her to me. I playfully grabbed the hem of her skirt and tugged on it lightly. “You are skating on thin ice, young lady. If this was just an inch or two shorter, I would have to send you to the headmaster to get a suitable skirt.”
Bianca laughed, tossing her head back, the sound light and airy. “Headmaster?” she repeated.
I tried to keep my expression serious. “That’s right,” I said. “Now, I’m going to let this slide this time but you’d best watch yourself. You don’t want to attract any unwanted attention at school.”
Bianca smirked and leaned down to kiss me. I hummed against her mouth and pulled her so she was sitting in my lap. “True,” she said when we pulled apart. “You’re the only one I want attention from.”
I tightened my arms around her and kissed her neck. “Good answer.”
I was feeling a little lighter after Bianca and I had our mini roleplay scene. I allowed myself a few minutes to muse over how lucky I was to have her but then forced myself to acknowledge the issue at hand.
I knew Bianca had a good point when she suggested I try to get answers from Andre but I was going to avoid having to see the bastard if I could. I should be doing everyting I could to try and get information on Jack Frost but I didn’t want to resort to torturing a career gang member like Andre.
Wouldn’t that make me just as bad as the Angels?
I looked up when a knock sounded on my office door.
“You look like hell,” I said to Franky in greeting.
“Always nice to see you too,” my friend said sarcastically before stepping fully into the room.
I gestured for him to take the seat across from my desk and he did so without hesitation. “I have to warn you,” Franky began without a preamble. “We don’t have as much information as we were hoping we’d get.”
“Like I haven’t heard that one before,” I countered but I could feel the displeased frown on my face.
Franky nodded in understanding, his expression telling me that he knew that feeling all too well. He handed me a thick manila folder. “We had a full test done on the substance and I think that what you see here will be of interest to you.”
I took the folder, wasting no time in pulling out the contents and looking over the complicated names of chemicals. There were lists of them, all were inside of that white powder.
It was no wonder that it was so powerful. There were dozens of compounds just in the one drug.
“These are the compounds that cause the delirium,” Franky said, tapping his finger against a string of complicated words he didn’t bother pronouncing.
I scanned over the document where Franky was indicating. “There isn’t that much of it in the substance,” I noted. “How does it affect someone so quickly?”
Franky nodded grimly. “It’s very high in small doses,” he explained. “Apparently that’s possible because it invades the nerves through the bloodstream. From there, it attacks the brain stem directly. It’s a truly nasty drug.”
“That explains the effects that it had on our men,” I said, my jaw clenching as I remembered the horrifying scene.
“In high doses, it becomes uncontrollable,” Franky continued. “It’s what caused the frenzied attacks, delusions and the overpowering strength that the victims gained while under its influence. It’s a mix of multiple substances but they are all in their purest form.”
I grinded my teeth together. “Well, if nothing else, this Jack Frost is clever.”
Frankly nodded in agreement. “He is most likely an extremely skilled chemist to be able to pull off something like this.”
I sifted through the rest of the documents before pushing them aside. “What have you found on this Jack Frost character?”
Franky looked more than a little regretful. “In addition to being a gifted chemist, I’m afraid this guy is also a master of evasion. We haven’t been able to uncover anything useful about him.”
I suppressed the frustrated growl that wanted to erupt from my throat.
Franky looked at me warily but I could tell that he was just as annoyed by the whole thing. It wasn’t like us to not be able to find anything on a person we’re targeting. It made the whole situation that much more unsettling.
“In a more positive light,” Franky began. “By studying the drug, we were able to confirm that the effects shouldn’t last more than a couple of days. Darion and the others should be back to normal within a day or so.”
I felt myself relax the slightest bit. This was good news. I wasn’t going to admit it to the little punk but I was concerned that the effects of the drug would cause some lasting damage. That would have been devastating since he is so young.
I clenched my jaw. Hopefully this whole thing taught him not to go jumping into a situation he didn’t understand.
“The drug doesn’t linger long in the system,” Franky said. “I would imagine that that’s precisely why this Jack Frost has kept the market especially saturated.”
I looked down at my desk, considering all of this. While it was important that we learned all of these facts about the drug itself, it didn’t do us much good if we had no leads on this Jack Frost.
We had some of the best investigators in the entire state and yet, we couldn’t find anything on this guy. That realization made me more than a little nervous. That was a sign of just how dangerous this character was.
It was going to take some serious means to get any kind of dirt on him.
“How should we proceed?” Franky asked and he was likely watching a war rage across my face.
I gripped the edge of my desk hard in my hands, wishing that it didn’t have to come to this but it was becoming abundantly clear that we had little choice on the matter.
I leveled Franky with a no nonsense stare. “Looks like I’m going to have to pay Andre a little visit.”
