Struggling as a Villain-Chapter 287 - 286- Interference
The following battle between the two witches was extremely intense.
Bellarine had absolute supremacy when it came to spell control and spell dismantling. On the other hand, Rose was a master of magecraft and weaving new spells that allowed her to escape any threat and counter with the perfect attack.
The battle between the two mages was devastating enough for both sides to deploy their barriers, under the threat of getting crushed under the battle cry.
At some point, Richard thought that he should intervene, but when he spotted the smile on his mother’s face—those raging eyes told him that after a long time, she was finally having fun.
’Guess, I will watch for some more time...’ The other side also seemed not in the mood to interfere so Richard just stood at his place and witnessed the showdown between two great magicians.

Rose was struggling to breathe properly. Despite all those barriers, she has inhaled a lot of smoke, and her body has sustained countless injuries, which her magic failed to heal.
She had a vast amount of ether; however, she hadn’t reached the efficiency to use her magic with zero wastage. And because of that, she was tiring herself out with each spell.
Lack of focus and experience is a deadly combination. And currently, Rose was being held down by both.
"You shouldn’t elevate the battle to this point. I always gave you the space to escape." Bellarine spoke—other than the injury she received initially, there was no evident wound one could see on her.
On the other hand, Rose was covered with injuries and was bleeding from several spots.
If anything, it was her sheer will to not back down was preventing her from falling unconscious. She knew if she fell here, she wouldn’t open her eyes again.
"I need a distraction…"
Deciding to end this fight with a superior-rank spell, Rose clasped her hands together, fingers interwoven. Ether surged from her body, pouring into the summoning ritual forming beneath her feet.
Bellarine’s eyes flickered with intrigue. "Oh? You actually formed a contract with a familiar? Not bad~"
It was a rare sight—even among the forces of Light. No one had ever seen Rose summon a familiar before.
’When did she form a bond?’ Jessica wondered, watching as the girl—who was usually playful and carefree—now stood face-to-face with one of the Dark’s strongest generals.
The ritual was completed, and from its center, a creature emerged. It floated in the air, resembling a stingray, its body covered in glowing blue runes. Two long antennas dangled from its head, and its luminous eyes locked onto Bellarine.
"Arpy, go get her."
At Rose’s command, the familiar shot forward, its movement smooth like flowing water. As it flew, it released a melodic howl—strangely pleasant to the ears.
Bellarine narrowed her eyes, immediately realizing what Rose was attempting. But she had no time to dwell on it.
A storm of ice shards suddenly came hurtling toward her.
CRACK!
She launched herself sideways, barely dodging in time. Her response was instant—she fired a blazing lance straight at the incoming creature.
CLANG!
The flame lance shattered on impact. Bellarine’s eyes widened in disbelief. The aembr from her spell was absorbed into the creature’s body, and its glowing blue runes pulsed—turning red.
It flipped midair, adjusting its course.
Tch. Bellarine clicked her tongue and raised her hand. A rapid barrage of fireballs erupted from her palm, each powerful enough to reduce a stone pillar to rubble.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The fireballs struck the creature, but the results were the same. The attacks simply vanished into its body, absorbed without a trace.
"Shit!"
Bellarine barely had time to react as the creature lunged toward her like a falling meteor. She threw herself out of the way, just in time to avoid being crushed by the mini-car-sized beast. Discover hidden content at novelbuddy
Bellarine hit the ground and rolled, barely avoiding Arpy’s charge. The moment she stopped, she slammed both hands onto the battlefield.
FWOOOM!
A massive spell circle flared to life beneath her, its lines burning with raw power.
Rose’s breath hitched. "No way… She has one too?"
The magic pulsed violently, and from the center of the formation, a colossal figure began to rise.
Flames erupted, taking the shape of a majestic beast. Molten veins ran across its body, magma dripping like liquid fire. Large wings spread wide, each feather wreathed in burning embers. Its small head contrasted with its powerful frame, and when its glowing crimson eyes opened, the battlefield trembled.
A phoenix—born of flames—stood before its master.
It screeched, the heat from its body warping the air around it. The very ground beneath it darkened, charred by its presence.
And in that moment, its intent was clear.
It would protect Bellarine. No matter what.
Arpy lunged at the phoenix, a series of hollow circles forming before its head, but before the stingray could attack,
*SCREECH*
The flaming bird spared through the air, faster than the other beast could anticipate, and grabbed the stingray in its claws—rendering Arpy useless.
Rose’s eyes widened as she barely retained control over her spell.
"How long will you take?"
Rose was startled, hearing the voice, as she shot her head forward.
There, Bellarine stood with her eyes narrowed.
The woman could have easily finished her when Rose was distracted and vulnerable, yet she called out—a sign of how confident she was in herself.
Rose snarled, "Excessive confidence is a sign of arrogance."
Bellarine’s brows elevated, "I have the beauty and strength to be arrogant. What about you?"
Rose didn’t respond with words.
Around her, six spell circles formed, each radiating an immense magical presence.
The ground beneath the girl began to crack, fissures continuing in several directions.
Bellarine also responded in kind.
Her red hair began to float a little, and her eyes became completely red, as she chanted a seven-circle spell.
Richard was taken aback seeing his mother actually able to pull that off. Someone who has a pseudo-immortal level of member as he can easily chant seven circles. However, Bellarine was a human, yet she accomplished it.
’Truly...a commendable witch.’
Both sides prepared their best attacks, the very preparation made the armies on both sides stagger back.
Even apostles had to form a barrier before their fortress under the threat of those two spells.
Rose looked at Bellarine, her eyes holding nothing but indifference, as she muttered, "You should have finished me when you had the time."
Bellarine chuckled, "Don’t worry, I like to torture my prey first."
Rose gritted her teeth before she thrust her hand forward.
A huge eel, made out of nothing but pure ether struck out of her magic circles
Following suit, Bellarine also released the spell before a huge three-headed dragon clad in live flames erupted.
The armies on both sides tensed, many staggering backward as the sheer force of the impending clash made the air tremble.
But then—
BOOM!
A shadow flashed between the two attacks.
CLANG!
The impact of steel against the ground echoed through the battlefield.
In an instant, the colossal ether eel and the flaming dragon halted mid-air, as if frozen in time. Then—
WHOOSH!
A shockwave exploded outward. The ground beneath the intruder cracked apart, splitting like shattered glass. The force of the stab sent a ripple through space itself, and in the next moment—
BANG!
The two summoned beasts disintegrated. Not torn apart, not overwhelmed—simply erased. Their forms scattered into particles, fading like mist under the morning sun.
A silence fell over the battlefield.
At the heart of it all stood a lone figure, his blade buried deep into the surface. The air around him still hummed with residual power, a stark contrast to the complete annihilation he had just caused.
Richard’s eyes turned cold as his nonchalance disappeared upon realizing who just entered the battlefield.
"Ethan."
