Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time-Chapter 276: Going To Collect The Rewards
Chapter 276: Going To Collect The Rewards
’It would be really bad if that flame is really living and devours me if I open the vial.’ Han Yu shivered at that thought.
He didn’t want to die just yet, especially when he hadn’t even set up the Undying Life Charm.
’If it really comes to opening it, I’ll open it when my second life is guaranteed... no wait, third life.’ He corrected himself.
Having thought of this, Han Yu didn’t waste any time.
The moment he got over the thrill of the reward and caution with the vial, he left his courtyard and headed straight for the Merit Exchange Hall.
There was a bit of a line at the counter, but it moved quickly, the attendant disciples working with practiced efficiency. When Han Yu’s turn came, he presented his identity token to the clerk behind the polished wooden counter.
The disciple—a clean-faced young man with an orderly bun and the blank, bureaucratic expression of someone who had processed far too many merit transactions—took the token, inspected it, then placed it onto a formation plate.
With a hum and a flicker of pale blue light, the merit points were transferred. A notification flickered briefly across Han Yu’s token as the balance jumped by one hundred and fifty thousand.
"Reward transfer complete," the disciple said without inflection. "Now, you’re entitled to one additional reward: either a Spirit Tool or an alchemical pill. Please choose."
Han Yu raised an eyebrow. "That’s it? No list? No limits?"
The disciple gave him a brief look—half bored, half annoyed. "There are conditions. You may select any Spirit Tool below the High Grade tier. As for alchemical pills, you may immediately request any that are currently available from the repository inventory. If you wish for a custom concoction or one that isn’t in stock, you must file an application and have it approved by an alchemist elder. Processing may take anywhere from three to ten days, depending on complexity."
Han Yu hummed, rubbing his chin. Pills were certainly tempting—one good pill could boost his qi cultivation by an entire minor realm, and there were even rare pills that could aid with soul recovery. But...
His mind flicked back to the thought of Meng Jueyan. They hadn’t been able to speak since his last letter. He didn’t even know if she had left for her ’mission’ (which he had given her) yet. And while she had her own means of communication, what Han Yu needed was certainty—something long-range and secure.
"I have a question," Han Yu said, leaning in slightly. "Is it possible to get a high-grade communication jade slip as the reward?" freewebnσvel.cѳm
The disciple blinked, as if surprised someone would ask for something so specific. "High-grade communication jade slips are not on the list of pre-approved spirit tools for this reward tier," he said. "Only mid-grade and below."
Han Yu nodded, already anticipating that. "Then... what if I offer to pay the difference in merit points?"
The disciple gave him a skeptical look but, after a moment, stood up. "Wait here."
He vanished into the back, behind a set of cloud-patterned silk screens. Han Yu idly tapped the counter as he waited, watching the other disciples exchange items and argue over fine-print regulations.
After several minutes, the disciple returned and nodded.
"Your request has been approved," he said. "If you provide an additional thirty thousand merit points, you may claim one high-grade communication jade slip."
Han Yu didn’t hesitate. "Done."
He handed over the token again, and with another flash of formation light, the extra points were deducted. A few moments later, another clerk arrived with a slim, violet-tinged jade box. Inside it, resting on a bed of silken lining, was a pristine communication jade slip that shimmered with embedded runes.
It was rectangular, about the size of his palm and had a whitish green color, just like any common jade. The crest of the Twin Leaf Peak Sect could be seen on both its sides.
"This one has dual-channel capacity and can be tuned to specific communication frequencies," the disciple explained. "Range: six hundred kilometers without a relay. Extendable up to a thousand with an amplifier relay."
Han Yu’s eyes lit up.
Perfect.
While the distance between the Twin Leaf Peak Sect and Wujing City was more than six hundred kilometers, it could be fixed easily with an amplifier relay.
’Meng Jueyan will figure out that part on her own.’ Han Yu reckoned.
The relay simply worked as a receiver before forwarding the message to the correct recipient.
It was just what he needed to stay in touch with Meng Jueyan—or anyone else he trusted—without relying on the other communication system such as the talisman she had given him.
"Thank you," he said sincerely, taking the jade slip and tucking it into his sleeve with care.
As he turned to leave, merit token heavier, inventory richer, and heart lighter, Han Yu couldn’t help but smirk.
He had originally taken the mission for a bare minimum of fifty thousand points—just enough to get two ingredients he needed for the Undying Life Charm.
Now?
With the Fireborn Beast ashes already in hand and his future purchases of Jade Heart Silk and a Reverse Blood Fruit, he would have three of the seven required materials.
Progress.
Momentum.
And maybe even a secure way to reach someone he missed.
Han Yu walked back toward his courtyard, steps confident and humming softly under his breath. The sect might have tried to bury him months ago.
But now?
Now he was blooming.
Like a weed.
With soul qi and merit points.
Sitting in the courtyard, Han Yu realized something important.
"Wait... How do I actually contact Meng Jueyan?" Han Yu raised his brows.
He thought back to how he had seen others use communication jade slips and registering contact.
"Crap... It needs physical contact from another jade slip to register." Han Yu sighed. "I didn’t think this further..."
Han Yu sat for a bit in silence as he pondered on how to solve this problem.
’Do I need her to come down or do I send this to her?’ He wondered what was more suitable.
