Strongest Demigod System-Chapter 55: Mission
Azrael could tell that there was something on Jane's mind, and even though Azrael did not enjoy talking to others, he decided to wait and hear what she had to say.
"Congrats on the win today."
Azrael hummed, he didn't expect her to start with that.
It was good sportsmanship, but it was not like Jane to just stop there.

And just like Azrael thought, Jane continued.
"But you better enjoy this small victory while it lasts. From now on, we're going to be working with more than just the mortal ranking. All of us are going to need our God Aspects to fight against the monsters that we'll be facing, and there's no chance for you to even make it to the middle of the pack with your mortal ranking alone.
"This win today, you had better savor it. You better take it as the very greatest achievement of your life because I promise you that I'll never lose to you again. At the end of the year, and next year too until the day we leave this school, I'll be the one at the top. I swear it on my life."
Jane turned around and started to walk away from Azrael, and Azrael just watched her with an impassive gaze.
Before she could turn the corner, Azrael spoke up.
"There's a lot more to life than your petty rivalry, Jane. I hope you realize this before it's too late."
Jane glanced back at Azrael with the most poisonous look he had ever seen on a girl before she turned and left.
Azrael ran a hand through his hair with a small scoff. That was the most irritated he had ever seen Jane before. It was almost like she was a completely different person compared to the girl he knew in middle school.
At the same time, this was exactly the sort of competitiveness he expected from someone like Jane. She wanted to be the best and she would do anything to achieve that goal.
But what Jane said was also right. Azrael would most likely begin falling behind in school very soon. Although he was at the top of the ranking now, that was only because today's training was based on things he could do well. The athletics contest and the gravity room were in his forte, so he could compete with others. By the time the school starts to ramp up the training to levels that need your God Aspect, Azrael might not be able to keep up. Even the children of Ares were going to get far stronger than him since they would be augmenting their strength using their God Aspect soon.
And since Azrael had no way to use his God Aspect without getting discovered by the authorities, Azrael was just going to have to get used to the truth.
In this world, talent was going to beat hard work every single time.
Azrael squeezed his hand into a fist as this thought crossed his mind and Azrael immediately banished such nonsense.
Who cares if the others thought he was weak? All Azrael had to do was find a way to use his mortal body to fight at the same level as the others.
Azrael swore that he was going to get so powerful that his mortal body alone would be enough to handle anything that the school threw at him.
All of the demigods in his class only had F Rank God Aspects, and Azrael knew that he would be able to handle them easily with his current Mortal Rank.
The real challenge would start when he faces off against an E Rank God Aspect.
The difference between one rank of God Aspect and another was like heaven and earth. The F Rank was only able to form small structures and grant small boosts, but E Rank God Aspects would be capable of leveling buildings without effort.
Azrael needed power. He needed much more power if he was going to keep up with that.
The itch on Azrael's hand began to intensify as his mind fixated on his mission, and Azrael steeled himself as he moved back home to prepare for the next day.
…
The next day, Azrael woke up to the feeling of someone's hand on his face.
Azrael frowned and pushed away the hand of his bedmate before sitting up in bed. Most of the boys in the room were still asleep. Today was a Saturday and there was no school, so the Matron allowed them all to sleep in for longer than normal.
"Hey, boss. Some of the boys are going to play football later at the centeral field. You wanna come? We'll need a striker."
One of the boys who was awake spoke up while cleaning a pair of football boots, and Azrael shook his head, telling him that he was not going. He was going to be busy later.
The boy chuckled coyly while giving Azrael a suggestive look.
"You got a date or something, boss? I've been hearing from some of the others in middle school that you got yourself a girlfriend. Is she really hot?"
Azrael gave the boy a glare and the boy immediately backed up while raising his hands in the air.
"Stop talking nonsense. What's for breakfast today?"
The boy grinned.
"Pancakes and syrup. The Matron thinks we've been behaving good so she's going to spoil us today."
Azrael spoke up while standing to go to the bathroom.
"You guys can share my portion. I'll have breakfast where I'm going."
"Really!? Thanks, boss!"
The boy exclaimed in joy while the other boys who were awake started to deliberate on how they were going to share Azrael's portion without letting any of the sleeping boys know. Azrael went and took his bath before he dressed in a simple shirt and trousers.
The rot growing from Azrael's hand had already spread all the way up to his forearm and Azrael had to wear a glove to sleep last night just so no one would see it. Azrael pulled up his long-sleeved shirt to get a good look at the rot.
It was almost like the skin there had been infected by some disease. The skin was pulsing and the red, sore skin looked raw and disgusting.
Ba-Dump! Ba-Dump!
The rot pulsed in time with Azrael's heartbeat and each time it sent a jolt of intense pain through Azrael's hand. The pain was like someone using a hot iron to scald your skin, and it was only Azrael's high pain tolerance that prevented him from flinching every time.
Azrael pulled his shirt back down and pulled his gloves tight so that he was properly covering his arm.

If Azrael didn't get this mission done today, then he was going to die, there were no two ways about it.
The rot had spread too far and there was no known cure for it, so taking a life was the only way to get it to reverse.
Azrael stepped out of the bathroom, and the boy who had been cleaning his boots gave him a coy grin while commenting on how he was trying to look nice for his date.
Azrael hit the younger boy on the head and the boy cried out in pain.
Azrael went to grab the bag he had packed yesterday from behind his bed and then he left the room.
