Chapter 71: Lifting The Burden -1

Rivana looked up at him, thinking he would be shocked or, worse, paint her as a criminal without knowing the whole story. That’s what everyone did that night, blaming her for taking an innocent’s life over a simple mistake.

Instead, all she saw was a blank stare. It seemed more like he didn’t care if she was a murderer or not if she had killed someone or thrown someone off a building. Did he trust her that much? Or did they already investigate it and believe she was innocent without the need for her to prove it?

Azrael caressed her hand and answered her unspoken questions, "Callum dug into it and found a few things." He pulled her closer, holding her close to his chest. Kissing her hair, he added, "I wanted you to share because you have carried it for many years. It’s time to lift that burden off your heart."

Rivana looked up at him, tears welling up in her eyes. True, it had become a deep wound, leaving a painful open scar in her heart that whenever someone brought it up, she’d end up losing all of her strength. If he didn’t care anything about it, then nothing mattered to her.

Taking a deep breath, Rivana nodded in response. It was a horrific part of her life she hoped to erase from her memory, one that had completely shattered her strength and turned her into a puppet for the Faye siblings. They had used it throughout her teenage until she deleted it from their storage after getting into college.

[Six Years Ago]

"She lost sight because of you! Now be her eyes and let the girl enjoy some time." Amerie’s voice boomed through the phone, and Rivana hummed in response. Rubina was excited, looking out of the window, and enjoying the cool breeze.

"Get inside. This road has lots of rash drivers," Rivana warned, pulling Rubina inside and asking the driver to close the window.

"Don’t tell me what to do! Hmph!" the young 15-year-old Rubina grunted, leaning back in her seat. She adjusted her black shades and put her head out of the car again.

Rivana looked at Sebastian in the shotgun seat. His medium-length hair was being tousled by the wind, his handsome features illuminated by the car’s dim light. His sharp jawline and striking blue eyes made him look like a model straight out of a magazine. He looked back at her and shrugged, telling her to let the brat do whatever she wanted. Rivana sighed and leaned back in her seat. She had a terrible cramp and was forced into this mess. Her gut feeling kept telling her something would go wrong today, and she couldn’t shake it off.

The drive stopped by the beach, where everyone had gathered at Faye’s beach house. The house was a stunning, secluded getaway, nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The pristine white sands stretched out before it, meeting the crystal-clear waters of the ocean.

Tall palm trees swayed gently in the breeze, adding to the tropical paradise feel. The house itself was a luxurious villa, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of the sea, and a private pool that sparkled under the sun.

It was Rafaelo’s graduation party. All of Rafaelo’s friends had arrived at the house, everyone partying in the pool, in the rooms, and some on the balcony. It was fully packed, and Rivana guessed he had invited the entire school here.

They got down, and Rivana helped Rubina inside the house, with Sebastian following them.

"Oh, here she is!" Rafaelo greeted them as soon as they entered the house. He hugged his sister Ruby first and pampered her. "Was the drive good?"

"Yes! I enjoyed it very much!" Rubina replied with a smile.

Rafaelo smiled in response. Wrapping a hand around her shoulder, he guided her inside the hall.

Rivana followed them with Sebastian tagging along. Rafaelo had always adored his sister, and she was glad she didn’t need to take care of the grumpy brat anymore.

"Let’s find somewhere quieter," Sebastian suggested, leaning close to her ear. Rivana nodded with a smile. They needed to disappear out of his sight before he started bugging them.

Just as they turned around to leave, Rafaelo called out to them, "Where do you think you are going?"

Rivana sighed as Rafaelo snickered and further joked, "Eager to make out?"

"We are just friends! How many times do I have to tell you?" Sebastian grumbled, turning to face the annoying prick.

"Oh?" Rafaelo smirked, walking closer. "Then get to your duty. Why do you think I asked a nanny’s grandson to come here?"

He looked at his friends, and they chimed in, "To serve us!"

One of them commented, "Oh, our class topper is going to be our servant? This is getting exciting!"

Rivana closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her anger was breaking free, but she couldn’t show it as that would only make him torture them more.

Rafaelo then hit the back of Rivana’s head and said, "And what are you doing here? Go serve drinks to my friends on the balcony!"

"Don’t cross the line!" Sebastian growled at Rafaelo, but Rivana held his hand, stopping him.

She dragged him toward the balcony as Rafaelo smirked in victory. Walking back to Rubina, he held her hand and took her upstairs. "Tonight, I will make sure she pays off well for hurting you, Ruby. Just you wait."

Rubina held onto his hand and asked, "What are you going to do?"

Rafaelo smiled in response but didn’t reply. He looked down at one of his friends who nodded, bringing over a beast of a man who was all drunk. Tonight, he would be hitting two stones, and it would be even more exciting if Rivana ended up killing herself after the humiliation.

"D... don’t be too harsh on her, brother," Rubina worriedly added in a low voice. Moving closer, she murmured, "If not for her mother, she would have not come here. She is on her period and fought with that mistress."

Rafaelo’s eyes glinted at the news. "That’s even better. There will be some blood spilling tonight," he murmured, taking Rubina upstairs.
