Chapter 29: Dead Wife

"This fucking bastard!" Callum kicked him again, thinking he was lying to them.

"I am telling the truth!" Gale barked out loud. Wiping the blood off his nose, he moved closer and grabbed Azrael’s leg. "It was your Uncle, Ezekiel Dynar!"

When Azrael raised his eyebrow, Gale continued, "Trust me, he paid me to kill your wife. Please... Please leave me!"

"Why the heck would Master do that?" Callum shouted in disapproval. But his expression changed as memories from a night before Azrael’s grand entry at Rivana’s wedding flooded back.

"No, I am against this marriage!" Ezekiel had made his stance clear and left the room. But Azrael had gone against his order and married Rivana. Ezekiel was far more deranged than his nephew, his anger often forcing him to take dangerous steps. No way! Did he really try to kill Rivana?

Callum looked at Azrael, who was clearly pissed off at the revelation. Yes, he respected his uncle a lot. But Rivana came first before anyone else, and he might as well declare war against the old man if it turned out to be true.

A shiver ran down Callum’s spine, and he quickly tried to calm the awakened dragon. "We should confirm it first. I am sure Master wasn’t behind it."

"If he is, then prepare to dig a grave for him," Azrael replied, his words sending a wave of terror through the room.

Placing the lighter back into his pocket, Azrael got up from his chair. Gale gulped as the dragon’s eyes fixed on him. He would be spared alive, right? He thought, looking down at his burnt fingers.

Azrael placed his hands in his pants pockets, looking at Gale, making up what punishment would make up for what Rivana had to go through because of him. "Burn every inch of his body," he ordered, his words making Gale look up in shock. With a smirk, Azrael added, "Slowly but completely."

"No... No...." Gale moved forward and tried to grab Azrael’s leg. "Please! Please just kill me right now! Shoot me! Hang me to death!" He spewed a string of easy methods, but they fell on deaf ears.

Azrael turned around to leave, and the men pulled Gale behind, ready to fulfill their master’s demand. Callum gestured for Dawn to follow him, his smile fixing on Gale.

"Want some candy?" Callum asked, taking out a candy from his pocket. Walking closer, he unwrapped it and forcefully shoved it into Gale’s mouth. Gale cried and struggled as the men tied him again. Callum patted his head warmly and smiled, "Now, let’s have some fun."

Azrael returned to the mansion. George, who had been patiently waiting for him, walked over and took his coat.

"Is she asleep?" Azrael asked, making his way to the couch.

"Yes, Master. Madam finished her dinner and went to sleep," George replied, folding his coat neatly across his hand. With a bit of hesitation, he continued, "She kept asking me where you were, and I assured her it was some company matters. She looked a bit worried about you."

His last sentence brought a smile to Azrael’s face. With a nod, he walked upstairs to his room. As he entered, Rivana sleeping soundly on the bed greeted him. She had always been an awful sleeper, moving quite a lot since childhood, and some habits seemed to never change about her. He thought, staring at how she had thrown away the blanket, her legs bearing the cold.

Walking closer, Azrael tucked her in properly before sitting beside her. Reaching out, he caressed her cheek with his thumb. "I will make sure to protect you, Rain," he murmured, vowing not to let anyone who dared to touch her slide. Even if it was his uncle, the man who had turned him into whoever he was today.

A smile lit up his face again as she turned to his side at his touch, her sleepy puffed face beaming under the dim lights of the lamp. "Good night, baby girl," Azrael murmured, patting her cheek. Making sure that the heater was on, he walked out and locked the door.

[Next Day]

Rivana woke up early since there were lots of things she needed to take care of at Shadow. George had told her that Azrael had returned last night and was currently sleeping, so she didn’t disturb him. It must be hard to manage his empire back at Draxton from here, the time zone making it worse.

Finishing her coffee, she thanked George, but before she could leave, George stopped her.

"Master asked me to give you this last night, but I forgot." He passed the box with a warm smile.

Rivana accepted the box and opened it to find a new phone inside. "Since your last phone was completely burnt, he got you a new one."

Rivana nodded, a smile barely holding itself from lifting her face. There was a note too that read:

"They couldn’t retrieve your sim. I put a new one, you should give it to your company."

"Thank him for me. I am running late," Rivana replied, and at George’s nod, she quickly left for the office, her mood already quite excited after receiving her gift.

Ashley drove her to the company, making sure to follow her even to her chamber. Many greeted them on the way, delighted to start afresh again.

Becca, her assistant, walked in and greeted Rivana, "Good Morning, CEO."

Rivana smiled at the elder woman. Becca had been her assistant ever since they started Shadow, a great support she needed in the future too. Becca detailed today’s schedule and also the problems.

"Though the issue is resolved, many customers are unhappy. Our stocks aren’t great either," Becca showed the charts and comments. The internet was divided; while many were glad Rivana got out of that toxic relationship, lashing out at Viktor, many were pissed that personal grudges were brought into the company, causing a mess in their devices too.

Rivana thought for a while and nodded. "In apology, add an extra month of free security to all the customers. We can’t lose the remaining ones and need them to stick with us."

Becca nodded in response, finding the idea great. "And what about the companies? MediaHex is quite pissed among all," she asked, more worried about their big clients. They had a few companies that used their security packages and looked extremely pissed about the incident.

"Oh, we have a long day," Rivana murmured with a sigh. "Let’s try to clear up everything by today." Becca nodded, quickly scheduling her day.

Rivana handled all the damages that were caused because of her personal life. By the time she finished her last meeting, it was past lunchtime.

"You should go and grab something to eat," Rivana murmured to Ashley as all the workers left the room. When Ashley stubbornly shook her head, wanting to stick beside her, she pressed on, "You should get some rest. You have been standing here the whole day."

"Becca, take her with you guys, please," Rivana requested to Becca, who nodded with a small smile.

"We will get you something," Becca said, closing her laptop. Turning to Ashley, she added, "Come." When Ashley hesitated, the middle-aged woman added, "Don’t worry, I am completely safe in this premise."

Rivana smiled as Becca dragged Ashley out. She then focused on her screen, working on the little bugs that had arisen because of the virus.

After an hour, Rivana finally finished everything and stretched her hands. She looked around and saw the view outside, the bright sky lit up with sun while huge buildings were down below. She took off her glasses and massaged her eyes.

Turning around, Rivana picked up her phone to call her husband with a smile. But just then, the door to her office burst open.

"Oh, you are back!" Rivana murmured, thinking it was Ashley. But her smile vanished as a middle-aged man, clad in a dark suit, stepped inside. His features were sharp and menacing, with a cold, calculating look in his eyes. As he stepped even closer, Rivana recognized him instantly.

It was Ezekiel Dynar, Azrael’s maternal uncle.

"Hi, lovely lady." Ezekiel greeted her, taking off his black fedora hat. With a smirk, he corrected himself, "Oh, I should address you as Azrael’s lovely wife now."

Rivana gulped, unsure how to greet this dangerous man. But before she could reply, Ezekiel casually took out a gun from his vest, making her eyes widen in horror.

He started walking toward her and Rivana got up from her seat, ready to flee. Ezekiel closed the distance in two long strides, causing Rivana to stumble back. With a smirk, he placed the gun on her forehead, sending chills running down her spine.

Did Azrael marry her against his uncle’s wish? Rivana couldn’t help but wonder, her body running cold as Ezekiel pressed the gun. She couldn’t help but recall the dramas where female leads were offered money in return for leaving the rich male leads. It seemed like the mafia version of it: Take this bullet and leave my son forever.

"Oh wait! Don’t you think his dead wife sounds better?" Ezekiel’s question brought Rivana out of her stupid thoughts, her eyes widening in horror. But before she could react, Ezekiel placed his finger on the trigger and pulled it.
