Stepping on the Demoness to become the strongest-Chapter 739 - 19 Xiao Ning’s Diary
Diaries are meant to be read by others once they’re written down.
Those who write diaries subconsciously believe that only they will read them, but in reality, unless they bury their diaries in a hole and then completely forget about them, there’s always the risk of someone digging them up years later.
Considering the risk and the utility are completely disproportionate, it all boils down to one sentence—What kind of serious person keeps a diary anyway!
At this moment, Lin Ning deeply felt the cost of keeping a diary. Although she had managed to snatch her diary back, she quickly realized from the ill-intentioned look in Yan Yu’s eyes that her diary had caught his attention.
Unless she burned it in front of him now, in a week, a month, a year…, one day when she wasn’t careful, her diary would be stolen and read by him!
Lin Ning was horrified, but her expression remained calm. After all, being tsundere was all about saying one thing and feeling another. She seriously lectured Yan Yu,
"Girls’ diaries are meant for their eyes only, and you, being a boy, shouldn’t read it, okay?"
"Mhm," Yan Yu nodded, "I won’t actively look at it."
Lin Ning’s heart relaxed instantly, followed by immense relief and a sense of burden lifted.
Indeed, the captain isn’t a bad person at all!
Then she heard Yan Yu add,
"But it’s no problem if I mention to Ling Yun that you keep a diary, right?"
Lin Ning:!!!!!!!!!!!
Her mouth gaped open, her jaw seemingly dropping, her eyes visibly glazed over for a moment, then were swiftly filled with boundless fear, and her voice stammered,
"No, I... Captain! What I mean is... you shouldn’t let Ling Yun know, why would you tell Ling Yun! There’s no need to tell Ling Yun, right?"
Given Ling Yun’s interest in fun and her ruthless approach to doing things, once she learned about my diary...
Wah! I don’t want this!
"That won’t do, Ningning," Yan Yu said kindly, "I understand you don’t trust me to keep your diary a secret, so I won’t look at your diary. But Ling Yun trusts me more, so I can’t betray her trust—I’ve promised her that if something piques her interest, I’m to tell her promptly."
Lin Ning was at a loss for words and could only give Yan Yu a pleading look, her face screaming "Please don’t tell Ling Yun," but Yan Yu’s determination was like that of a man resolved to get a divorce.
And so, Problem Solver’s little sister quickly began to think:
Option A: If I let the captain read my diary, then only he will have seen it.
Option B: If I don’t let the captain read my diary, then he will tell Ling Yun about it, and she will do everything to steal it (with her abilities, intellect, and patience, I couldn’t guard against it). Considering their information-sharing relationship, it’s highly likely she would leak the contents to the captain, and then two people would have seen my diary. If Ling Yun leaks it to others...
She suddenly shivered violently.
Choose A! AAAAAAAAA!
"Captain," Lin Ning said with struggling emotion, "my diary doesn’t contain specifics, it’s just some life inspirations and thought fragments from when I used to study... so it’s actually quite boring. But I don’t like others seeing these things, you must absolutely not tell Ling Yun about my diary!"
"If you let me see, I won’t let Ling Yun know," Yan Yu said with a smile, "A secret known by just us two, having a third person know would devalue it, wouldn’t it? I won’t do that."
A secret known by just the two of them struck a chord with Ningning. She momentarily ignored the fact that the secret was solely her own to share and so bit her lip and decided to hand her diary over to Yan Yu.
Yan Yu casually flipped through it, and indeed it was filled with rambling notes and copied excerpts.
Things like "The sky is covered with dark clouds, and my mood seems like it’s about to rain," or "Mom made lots of tasty dumplings, so delicious, I’m so happy I could kick my legs in the air~." The language had the innocence characteristic of a young girl, yet also a cute side that tried to appear mature and desperate to act like an adult, making Yan Yu want to smile knowingly.
Although the contents were indeed hollow and boring, the more he read, the more it captivated him, and the more he wanted to read!
Lin Ning sat next to him, with wide eyes and a tense face, a stern expression that said, "You dare to laugh and you’re dead." Fortunately, Yan Yu’s control over his facial muscles was superb, and he didn’t show a sliver of a smile, giving Lin Ning no reason to execute him.
The diary was quite thick, and from the change in handwriting, it spanned at least over a decade. The first twenty or so pages were simply beautiful quotes and some childish reflections, like "Why are American children so independent, I want to be independent and smart as well," or "The most tender moment is when one lowers their head gently, just like a lotus flower..." and so on.
As she flipped further, one could see the changes in Ningning’s life trajectory and the typical confusions of adolescence. For example, in junior high, two boys got along well with her and another girl, but one day they suddenly started fighting and stopped talking, and the other girl began to distance herself from Ningning...
"Don’t look anymore!" Lin Ning violently turned those pages, saying quickly, "Actually, both boys liked me so started getting jealous of each other, the other girl liked one of the boys, and after she found out she stopped being friends with me!"
