Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic-Chapter 836 Night of the Yellow Moon
Chapter 836 -836 Night of the Yellow Moon
When Shard returned home that evening, the full yellow moon was already hanging at the center of the night sky. Tonight was the full moon of the Yellow Moon, which had a deep symbolic meaning in mysticism.
However, Shard did not have time to ponder the academic significance of the Yellow Moon. As the carriage delivered him to his doorstep, the detective, who stepped down from the carriage, wore a white shirt and had his black formal coat draped over his arm, along with his black tie:
“Lecia and Dorothy have such different personalities.”
Mia, standing on his shoulder, yawned and then eagerly lifted her head to look at the yellow moon. Her amber eyes reflected the moonlight, and the cat blinked before turning her gaze to the second floor of the house.
Although the house was quite cold and empty, as Shard ascended the stairs, he still felt the warmth of home. He was in a very good mood, not because of what happened in the top-floor box of the Draleon Royal Opera House, but because, at the end of the opera, when Shard quietly asked Lecia about her views on Luviya and her thoughts about his greed, Her Highness the Princess gave a definite answer:
“Dorothy considers Luviya a friend, and so do I. Our relationships will undoubtedly change because of your connection with us, but I still regard her as a friend. Knight, I don’t know what method you used to make Luviya not mind your greed, but since she didn’t lash out, curse, or even challenge Dorothy and me to a duel, I respect her… respect her for being the first to succeed.”
While speaking, she waved her hand to bring back the light of the gas lamp inside. Of course, the female sorcerer of the Five Rings used an illusion technique, so the light changes inside could not be seen from the outside.
When she said this, she didn’t look very willing, but she still respected the basic “game rules” and stood up to call Angelina from the next room, arranging for someone to tidy up the sofa.
Sitting on the sofa at that time, Shard was at a loss for words. He understood his sins but was unwilling to let go. Her Highness the Princess understood his expression and let out a light hum, her face showing a mocking expression:
“Be kinder to Dorothy, she is far more fragile than I am. As for your marriage problem, we won’t discuss it until I achieve my goal. After all, there is a long road ahead. Don’t two people outweigh one?”
Recalling that conversation, Shard turned on the light in the second-floor living room, thinking of briefly freshening up before going to rest, as he had to go to the Tobesk Train Station tomorrow to welcome back Priest Augustus.
But just as he stepped into the living room of Room No. 1, the cat on his shoulder immediately jumped down. She ran towards the door between Room No. 1 and Room No. 2, slipping through the gap into the adjoining room.
Shard looked at her:
“Come to think of it, Mia not only likes scratching the walls next door but also enjoys running around on the third floor in the autumn. But since last Wednesday, she has stopped going up to the third floor voluntarily.”
Instinctively walking towards the side bedroom where he had slept for the better part of a year, he remembered that he had already moved into the master bedroom. He turned and walked towards the master bedroom, intending to put his formal suit in the wardrobe, but paused and looked up at the upstairs:
“If Mia was originally interested in the third floor but suddenly lost interest because the sensitive cat sensed that the boundaries of the house affected by the interstice were gradually getting out of control, and now that the boundaries have disappeared, she is no longer interested in the third floor. Then, what is her frequent scratching at the walls in Room No. 2 about?”
A light laugh echoed in his ears, the creaking sound of the wardrobe door opening, followed by a whisper:
[Who knows?]
“Could there be two borders of life and death in my house?”
Shard muttered suspiciously, and after putting away the clothes, he returned to the living room and went through the door installed during the renovation between the two rooms, arriving at the still-empty Room No. 2 on the second floor:
“Anyway, this house definitely has more than one problem, it’s best to stay cautious.”
Miss Galina’s maids came to clean every week, so the room was very tidy. The heavy blackout fabric curtains in the living room were pulled to the sides, and the bright yellow moonlight shone on the floor and the freshly painted white walls of the living room.
Mia was crouching on the bright floor, her tail against the floor, staring at the moonlit wall. The cat, back to the window, had its shadow cast on the wall, resembling a large alien monster.
“Mia, time to sleep.”
Shard bent down and clapped his hands. The orange cat regretfully glanced at the wall before joyfully running to Shard. Clearly, Shard was more appealing to her than anything in the house.
The young detective smiled and picked up the adorable cat, thinking that the beginning of the month meant he might receive a new letter from Miss Mia Gold in the next few days. He wasn’t planning any long trips to the secluded coastal town where Gawder’s family resided during the winter, but he could start planning a spring trip.
Holding the squirming cat trying to find a more comfortable position, he walked towards the door between the two rooms but suddenly stopped, turned slightly, and looked out the window at the unusually bright yellow moon in the night sky. In March, the yellow moon represented “guidance,” so the full yellow moon was the brightest moon.
“Speaking of which, each floor of this house, each room has had strange occurrences. When I first took over this house, only Room No. 1 on the second floor was open, and Room No. 2 was locked with a large lock, prohibiting entry. What happened in Room No. 2 on the second floor was…”
Shard, holding Mia, returned to Room No. 1, reminiscing about the terrible incidents that had occurred in his house. He turned to grab the doorknob to close the door but blinked his eyes.
[The Echo of Blood] took effect, and under the bright moonlight, large patches of blood-red halos piled up together. Although seventy years had passed, and there had been multiple cleanings, faint traces were still visible.
[Collective suicide.]
“Yes, collective suicide (Chapter 43).”
Shard nodded, hesitated for a moment at the sight of the bloodlight, then took out the Night Watchman, and after making a round in Room No. 2 to confirm no abnormal reactions, he closed the door in a good mood:
“I wonder what kind of travel souvenirs Priest Augustus will bring us… Although I can buy them anytime in Milestone, receiving a gift and buying something yourself feels different.”
The empty Room No. 2 on the second floor returned to silence, the yellow moonlight shining on the wall Mia had been watching. In the center of the white wall was a circular mark, mirroring that of the yellow moon in the night sky, that confusing yellow moon.
