Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic-Chapter 826 Eye of Death
On a rainy autumn day, raindrops pattered against the glass, and the weak sunlight lit up the window of the second-floor bedroom at No. 6, Saint Delan Square. Holding Luviya, Shard finally spoke:
"Oh, no, it’s not us... it’s Mia, she’s too heavy!"
"Meow?"
The orange cat, struggling out of the ruin of the bed, tilted its head and looked at him.
"Really?"
Luviya laughed in exasperation, but at least she seemed in a better mood:
"I’m really curious what you two did last night. Even maintaining an intimate relationship with you, I can’t imagine... a sturdy metal bed breaking like this."
She gently pushed Shard away.
"I told you, Mia’s overweight, and besides, the bed was kind of old."
Shard mumbled, bending down to pick up the fluffed-up cat, which had been quite frightened just now.
"How do you plan to clean up here? Do you intend to use your lifespan to restore the bed to its previous state from last night?"
Luviya asked again. Shard thought for a moment and shook his head:
"No, I plan to move to the master bedroom. The bed there was replaced during the last renovation. I just need to change the room’s decor a bit and replace that old desk. As for here, let’s have Lecia’s maids help clean it up in the afternoon. She even mentioned this morning that the bedroom’s decor was too old-fashioned and wanted to help me get some new furniture."
"You’ve finally decided to move to the master bedroom? That’s great. It seems you’re completely putting the past with that detective behind you."
Luviya no longer looked at the broken bed; instead, she turned her gaze to the door and suddenly spoke softly:
"Shard, is the bed in the master bedroom new now?"
"Yes, during the renovation, the bed in the second-floor room was the only thing replaced, since someone had died there."
Shard nodded, but then saw the girl with the purple eyes biting her lip:
"Knight, have you rested enough?"
Shard was stunned for a moment before he reacted:
"Yes."
Then she softly asked:
"Well, do you want to in the master bedroom..."
"Oh! I made it! Ha, just as I thought, it’s Saint Delan Square! It really is that ruined tower!"
The familiar voice from downstairs interrupted Luviya’s words. She looked displeased towards the door, and both she and Shard walked out of the bedroom.
At this moment, Iluna, who should have been in Midshire Fort, walked up from downstairs holding the Night Watchman, greeting them with a cheerful demeanor:
"Good morning, Shard! Good morning, Luviya. I’m so happy to see you both right away!"
After a few days apart, the seventeen-year-old girl was still so energetic. She wore a brown, fitted short jacket for women, with a white blouse underneath. Her brown hair was simply tied back, hanging down her back, and her eyes were full of spirit as she looked at the two of them: ƒreewebɳovel.com
"Great, you’re both here. I found the ruined tower in the mountains as Shard said, and successfully came back! Oh, Shard, I received a letter from Sister Delphine, telling me you’re safe, but I was still very worried. Why did you have to do something so dangerous again?"
Spatial Movement through the Ancient God Statue requires establishing landmarks. Other than Shard, others can’t obtain landmarks out of thin air by sacrificing the White Stone Crystal; they have to touch the statue at the corresponding place themselves. Iluna had once touched the statue in Shard’s basement, thus entering the Spatial Labyrinth. By touching the statue in the deep mountains of Midshire Fort this time, she successfully obtained the second landmark.
Iluna curiously asked Luviya again:
"Why are you glaring at me? Is there a leaf or an insect stuck on my clothes?"
She looked down to check her outfit. The girl with the purple eyes forcibly swallowed her frustration:
"It’s nothing, just sit down. Have you finished your work in Midshire Fort?"
"The finishing work is pretty much done. The Church gave me a day off, and I’m taking a steam zeppelin back to Tobesk tomorrow night. Actually, the Milestone Parish wanted to keep me a bit longer, but the Tobesk Parish sent a letter asking me to come back as soon as possible."
She looked enthusiastically out the window:
"Oh, it’s raining today?"
Then she handed the Night Watchman back to Shard:
"I brought your sword back. When we get to the church, just say that a mysterious person in a black robe suddenly appeared and took the sword."
Iluna continued to smile as she spoke:
"I have missed Tobesk so much, even though I’ve only been away for a few weeks. I hope the weather won’t be too cold when I return; I haven’t had time to buy winter clothes yet... By the way, what were you discussing just now?"
Of course, the subjects they were discussing couldn’t be told to a seventeen-year-old girl.
Shard and Luviya together brushed off the topic, and though Iluna had sneaked back to Tobesk during her vacation, she obviously couldn’t stay here for long.
But since she was back, she gave Shard and Luviya a brief overview of the current situation in Midshire Fort.
Just as Luviya had said to Shard after he woke up on Friday, the biggest problem now wasn’t the casualties and damage to houses caused on Wednesday night during the Milestone battle—so many earthquakes could account for all that. The most difficult thing to explain now is the lush giant tree at the summit of Sicarl Mountain.
Sicarl Mountain is quite high, and under normal circumstances, it’s hard to see the tree at the summit from the town even in good weather. But the temporary restrictions on Sicarl Mountain will be lifted sooner or later, and citizens heading up the mountain will be able to see the tree by reaching halfway up.
It’s obvious that the casualties on Wednesday night could be explained by the earthquakes, but earthquakes don’t cause giant trees to grow at the summit.
Moreover, the sealed interstice is now accessible; there are only a few spots in the city and the mountains where the passage can be opened. The Church has dispatched two teams to enter and confirm that the interstice still remains the same, just sparsely populated with souls. They aren’t completely absent, but their numbers are extremely rare.
The interstice is sealed jointly by the "Holy Tree Scar" and the "Kiss of the Tree," making it difficult for souls who died in the Sicarl Mountain Region to be attracted to the interstice. Although the "Interstice of Life and Death" can still be considered a Level 0 relic, there’s almost no possibility of it losing control.
As a consequence, the death aura that dissipated into the city and mountains on Wednesday night would significantly increase the likelihood of hauntings in Midshire Fort compared to normal areas. Therefore, the Church decided to expand the number of Circle Sorcerer teams in the Midshire Fort Parish to better monitor the interstice’s developments over the next few centuries.
"I have good news, I ran into your friend, Captain Lades!"
After summarizing the aftermath of the Milestone battle, Iluna sat down on the sofa, holding a teacup, and spoke to Shard:
"The captain is fine, apart from a broken arm. He led the soldiers to complete their tasks commendably on Wednesday night, even though after the fog cleared, they almost forgot what they were fighting against. He’s likely to be commended and might even be promoted to Major."
Shard was very happy for Captain Lades and hoped that the amulet he gave him truly worked.
"Although the nun from the Spiritual Practice Order became The Chosen, Shard said you also inherited part of the death power of the chosen one. Have you gained anything?"
Luviya asked Iluna, who nodded and showed them her Ring of Fate. As the steam and the sound of the whistle echoed, the brass ring slowly appeared behind her, and the four-color aura illuminated the living room. Iluna turned and pointed behind her:
"I acquired a Spirit Rune Miracle—’Eye of Death’."
"Have you obtained any powers similar to the ’Dark Vortex’?"
Shard asked with great interest. Iluna nodded and took out the bone whistle from her pocket. This was the ancient relic of the Ancient God of Death given to Joey Barton by the Truth Society. Now, the bone whistle was covered in cracks:
"This item related to the power of the Ancient God, has come into contact with the power of my ritual, allowing it to summon a spirit horse capable of short flights and traversing any environment. Unfortunately, it can only be used three more times."
She handed the bone whistle to Shard and Luviya to check, then smiled and said:
"Besides that, I can now more keenly perceive death. The eye granted by the God..."
She glanced at Shard:
"This eye has become more powerful. Similar to Sister Delphine as Shard mentioned, I can use this eye to see the secrets of souls. Additionally, I can see... weaknesses. Yes, in any entity, both physical and non-physical, I can see their fatal weaknesses and send them to death by attacking those weaknesses."
"Such a pity, it’s not Barton’s ’Death of Destiny’."
Shard said regrettably, while Luviya felt that this was already sufficient:
"That eye’s current power rivals most Demon Eyes, and it doesn’t have negative traits. Now Iluna, you can say you possess the powers of balance, darkness, and death simultaneously. Very impressive, Iluna, you’ve done well in Midshire Fort."
Iluna blushed a little:
"It was mainly thanks to Shard."
But Shard was concerned about something else; he pointed at Iluna’s Ring of Fate:
"Now, are your four-ring Spirit Runes complete?"
Even though it was just early autumn, when they collected the marriage contract rune ’Tragedy’ together, Iluna had just met the requirements for three rings.
"Yes!"
The seventeen-year-old girl looked even happier, placing down the tea cup:
"I gained enlightenment while battling the dragon on the zeppelin, acquired desecration and whisper during my time in Midshire Fort, and finally obtained the miracle from the death power of The Chosen."
Iluna’s core Spirit Runes originally numbered three, namely Enlightenment—’Hero,’ ’Lucky Ones,’ and ’Thunder.’ After becoming the Chosen of ’Balance,’ her core Spirit Runes included an additional miracle—’Balance.’
Now, connected by the rune string and the Sublimation Incantation—
’Chase,’ ’Glimmer,’ and ’Hero,’ ultimately to ’Break Free’ the ’Shackles’ of fate.
This was a rare form of Sublimation Incantation that could be constituted in two forms.
Among them, ’Chase,’ ’Glimmer,’ ’Hero,’ and ’Break Free’ are necessary, but ’Fate’ or ’Shackles’ need only one. Different combinations would result in different ascension rituals, and varied final forms of Sublimation Incantation. Iluna ultimately chose ’Shackles.’
