Chapter 90: Chaos

This wasn’t Kyle’s game. Not at all.

Sneaking into a girl’s room... yes, that part felt unfamiliar. But the way things had spiraled outside—

BOOOM

Another explosion thundered through the area.

Cries of panic echoed in the distance. People were rushing out, desperate to see what was happening. Even in the lobby, he passed several individuals fleeing in confusion.

’How are they going to handle all these people?’ If they step outside, they’re as good as dead. And since they can’t even see the Majins, they won’t know what slaughtered them.

’I need to hurry.’ His pace quickened. He had to break that tracker, no matter what.

Amanda was in danger. He couldn’t afford to let caution slow him down.

.....

[In the main compound]

"Layena!" Amanda cried out as she spotted a behemoth charging toward the resort’s entrance. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

The orc carried a massive club over its shoulder, its heavy, swollen feet pounding against the ground with each step.

Its intent was clear. It was hunting anything with a presence.

Layena’s eyes glinted in the dark as she moved through three Majins in a blur, none of them able to catch her. A faint trail of light followed in her wake as she leaped high into the air.

The orc immediately shifted its target, swinging its club wildly even before locking its gaze onto her.

Layena snickered, planting her heel against the club at the exact moment it passed beneath her.

Using the impact, she launched herself even higher and gathered Genesis.

CRACKLE

Her speed surged.

Her dominant leg rose, then came crashing down onto the monster’s shoulder.

THUD

The orc’s entire body buckled, the ground beneath it fracturing from the force.

But Layena wasn’t finished.

She spun across its broken shoulder and extended her joined palms. A rope of thunder formed between them, crackling with silver energy.

The orc lunged to grab her with its free hand, but Layena flickered mid-air, vanishing from its reach as if teleportation were second nature.

"RGHHH!" the orc roared as a searing pain tore across its thick neck.

Layena appeared behind it, gripping the lightning rope, and with all her strength, she pulled.

SQUELCH

A moment later, her feet touched the ground.

The orc’s massive head rolled away.

Amanda would have rolled her eyes at the dramatic display, but she was far too occupied to spare the thought.

"UGLY PIECES OF SHIT!" she shouted as her fists drove into empty air, each strike sending out violent shockwaves, yet nothing visibly struck the incoming monsters.

They charged regardless, driven by rage or hunger, impossible to tell.

Amanda stood her ground, legs together, gaze cold as she looked down on them.

Just as they closed in—

SNAP

Her fingers clicked.

The faint, almost inaudible sound was followed by thunderous roars.

DOOOOM DOOOOM DOOOOM

One after another, the monsters burst apart into foul blood and shredded flesh.

Their bodies crumpled under an unseen force, unable to endure whatever tore through them.

The attack could not be seen, could not be countered.

Only its result remained.

Merciless death.

The two girls glanced at each other and then at the advancing Majins.

There were more than twenty now. And that was just because only two of the rifts has matured by now.

They knew the work was far from done.

....

Ethan gritted his teeth as he moved through the forest, five fireballs circling him to light his path.

Distant battle cries echoed through the trees. Chaos had already descended.

The rifts had matured far sooner than expected. They were nowhere near prepared. There was no backup, no contact with the base, and far too many lives at stake.

Under such circumstances, he had only two choices: rush back to the front lines and fight alongside the others, or continue his mission.

His heart wavered.

He scanned his surroundings.

There was still no sign of the barrier’s chanter.

But on the other side, with four rifts already open, the two women he cared about most were in danger.

Amanda was essential.

Layena was his love.

"Damn it!" The decision snapped into place.

He turned back.

He would wipe out every monster in his path and return here afterward.

.....

[A few minutes earlier]

"This is fucked up. This is fucked up. This is fucked up!" Clara muttered like a chant as she took in the chaos unfolding both outside and within.

Students were rushing in every direction. Although she had sealed the main entrance, it wouldn’t take long for them to find another way out and attempt to escape. But she knew the Majins would sniff them out instantly. The safest option was for everyone to remain inside the premises.

"Clara!" someone called from behind.

She turned and found Hannah, relief flickering across her face. At least it wasn’t another panicked classmate.

"What’s the plan now—"

"Clara?! What’s happening?"

Clara resisted the urge to slam her head against a wall. The very thing she had been grateful to avoid had just arrived.

A male voice followed from behind. When she turned again, she saw a teacher approaching them.

Clara was about to speak when, without warning, Hannah dashed past her. Genesis burst forth like a whip, propelling her forward at a speed that startled the approaching teacher.

Before the man could react, Hannah slipped behind him and pressed something against the back of his neck.

"Wh-What... huh... huuuuuh?"

He couldn’t process what had just happened. As he tried to turn, his body stopped responding. His vision tilted upward, eyes locking onto the ceiling. A moment later, everything went dark.

"What did you just do?! We were supposed to protect them!" Clara’s mind jumped to the worst possible conclusion.

Hannah let out a slow breath before stepping closer.

"Clara, I have an important role for you," she said, lifting a pouch in her hand.

"There are sleeping vents and chips in this bag. Your job is to release the vents in crowded areas and place the chips on those who have strayed."

Clara was taken aback by the sudden command, needing a moment to process it. But when she did, a question immediately slipped out.

"Why are you still carrying these chips? Aren’t they banned by the PSC?"

Hannah clicked her tongue. "Listen, girl. Ask one more question and I’ll knock you out and throw you out that window as bait. Don’t test my patience. Move."

Panic flickered across Clara’s face, but she didn’t hesitate any longer.

Her footing faltered for a split second, then instinct took over. Genesis surged through her body, propelling her forward.

A moment later, only scorched marks remained on the wooden floor. Clara was gone.

Hannah turned her gaze toward the window. Watching the two women outside tear through the monsters with precision and experience, she felt a sliver of relief.

She knew things would only spiral further into chaos from here. But with them holding the front, the monsters would not breach the resort.

And at the rear, there was Ethan. Even if anyone tried to slip out, he would handle it.

’If we succeed today, this will be our greatest achievement.’
