Chapter 197: Hundred Herbs Hall

Clap! Clap!

“Phew… All done!”

Liu Feng clapped his hands and looked around at the neat and tidy bedroom. He stretched lazily- right now, he was on Earth, getting ready to sell some ginseng.

So, some preparations had to be made. It was also time to leave this city and find a more peaceful place to settle down.

Today was the day he was moving out. He had already picked his new place; all that was left was getting the money to buy it.

“Time to go. Not like I even stayed here for long anyways.”

Liu Feng scanned the room one last time, to check he hadn’t left anything behind, and shouldered his prepared backpack and walked out the door.

Bang!

The door shut behind him. Liu Feng needed to take care of everything today- otherwise, if he stayed away for too long, Mina, Anli, and the others would start to worry.

He had used the excuse of taking a nap to hide in his room, and then traveled over here. He only had four or five hours and had to return before dinner.

He handed the key to the landlord, exchanged a few polite words, and left. Putting on a cap and mask, he hailed a taxi straight to the biggest traditional medicine shop in the city.

Half an hour later, he arrived, paid the driver, and got out.

Hundred Herbs Hall

Liu Feng looked at the elegantly decorated traditional-style herbal medicine shop. It was a private, family-run clinic that preserved traditional Chinese medicine- not one of those that sold medicinal pills.

Hundred Herbs Hall sold only traditional Chinese medicine. Liu Feng had heard that the hall was passed down through the family, and the current doctors were the grandfather, father, and son.

He had also heard that people from other cities came seeking treatment, and that many wealthy individuals would even request home visits from Hundred Herbs Hall’s doctors. It was a reputable clinic.

This was one of the reasons Liu Feng chose to sell his ginseng here- because a reputable shop was less likely to try and scam him, and more importantly, they had money.

“Quite a crowd, huh!” Liu Feng noticed the line of people waiting stretched all the way outside.

Line up? No way. Liu Feng wasn’t here for treatment- he was here to sell herbs.

Under the death stares of those around him, Liu Feng stepped confidently through the doors of Hundred Herbs Hall. As soon as he entered, he caught a whiff of herbal medicine. It wasn’t overwhelming- rather, it was warm and calming.

Inside, the place looked like it came straight out of a 90s movie about old Chinese medicine shops. It had a sense of history, which only made Liu Feng more satisfied.

“Sir, are you here for a consultation? If so, please get in line.” A deep, magnetic voice spoke up.

Zhang Ji looked at the young man before him, who had just entered and was now glancing around. Still, Liu Feng’s demeanor was surprised him.

Liu Feng turned his head and saw a man in his forties, wearing a modified version of a mao suit, which gave him a refined look. He also had a small beard.

“Are you Doctor Zhang Ji?” Liu Feng asked with a light voice.

“I am. And you are?” Zhang Ji could already tell the young man wasn’t here for a consultation- he could tell from his complexion that he wasn’t sick.

“My surname is Liu. I assume Hundred Herbs Hall accepts wild ginseng?” Liu Feng got straight to the point.

“Uh…” Zhang Ji was briefly stunned. A flicker of suspicion passed through his eyes, and he nodded. “If it’s just regular wild ginseng, we typically don’t purchase it.”

“Heh, coming to Hundred Herbs hall should already show that my ginseng isn’t ordinary. Would you like to evaluate it, Dr. Zhang?” Liu Feng smiled confidently. “It shouldn’t take long.”

“Well… alright. Come with me.” Zhang Ji nodded. Confident young people like this were rare.

Liu Feng followed Zhang Ji into the inner hall. After they sat down, Liu Feng didn’t say much. He pulled out a box from his backpack and pushed it toward Zhang Ji.

“Please take a look, Dr. Zhang Ji.” Liu Feng said calmly. He had done his research before coming- unless the price was unreasonably low, he planned to sell it.

“Mhmm!” Zhang Ji opened the box and froze, staring blankly at the ginseng inside. He was a bit dumbfounded. His voice grew dry as he asked, “Was this just dug up recently?”

“Yes! I’m a wilderness survival enthusiast. I stumbled across it by chance.” Liu Feng lied smoothly.

“Hold on a second!” Zhang Ji immediately stood up and rushed to the back of the shop- he had to get his father. He didn’t have enough experience to evaluate freshly dug wild ginseng of this caliber.

Actually, he didn’t have the confidence to accurately appraise it. Just from a glance, the ginseng Liu Feng brought out looked to be at least 150 years old.

“So impatient, and you’re already almost 50 years old.” A gruff, elderly voice soon followed. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

“Dad, just take a look and you’ll understand.” Zhang Ji returned, supporting an old man as they walked out.

“Doctor Zhang Senior, sorry to trouble you.” Liu Feng stood up and respectfully greeted him.

“Such a handsome young man- with great presence. You’re quite something.” Doctor Zhang Senior immediately praised Liu Feng upon seeing him. In his 70+ years of life, he had never seen such a composed young man before.

Zhang Ji was a bit surprised- this was the first time he’d heard his father compliment a stranger, especially someone so young.

“…” Liu Feng didn’t really know how to respond, so he just smiled politely.

“Alright, let me take a look.” The elder doctor sat down, picked up a magnifying glass, and began examining the ginseng in the box.

After a while, his expression turned solemn, no longer casual. He muttered to himself, “Short thick root… iron wire pattern… date core…”¹

“Whew… whew…”

After a long while, the elder doctor started breathing heavily. Zhang Ji, now nervous, stepped forward to rub his father’s chest and anxiously said, “Dad, calm down, deep breaths…”

These days, it was rare to see wild ginseng over a hundred years old. And now he was seeing one in person- how could he not get excited?

“Alright, I’m fine.” After a while, the elder doctor waved his hand and said seriously, “This is indeed wild ginseng. It was likely dug up within the last ten days. Its age is around 200 years old.”

Zhang Ji weighed the ginseng and read out the number, “352 grams!”

“Mhmm.” The elder nodded, then turned to Liu Feng and said solemnly, “If you’re looking to sell it, based on the price from the last auction, this ginseng would go for around 3.5 million dollars.”

Liu Feng quickly did the math and compared it to the data he had researched. That price was fairly standard and quite reasonable. “Alright, 3.5 million it is!”

Liu Feng nodded with a smile, but then his tone shifted, “However, I have another one I’d like you to appraise.”

“What?”

“Dad, deep breaths…”
