Starting Sign-In from a Billionaire God-Chapter 928 - 927: Fifty or Thirty
The rain was still falling, but at least it had lessened.
Lin Fan tried calling Loli but couldn't reach her. He wasn't sure what Loli was up to. Supposedly, Loli should have been waiting for him at the hotel, and she had called him so many times, obviously worrying about him. She wouldn't miss his call.
Could it be that Loli was taking a shower and didn't notice his call?
It's not impossible, but for someone who made dozens of missed calls to him, you'd think she'd keep the phone close, even if she went to shower, to pay attention to it.
With keen insight, Lin Fan already sensed that this wasn't a simple matter.
Lin Fan then called the hotel owner. He had seen the hotel's phone number on the billboard outside. Lin Fan's superb memory made it impossible for him to forget.
The phone connected.
"Hello, boss, it's me," said Lin Fan.
On the other end, the owner responded with surprise and delight, "Mr. Lin, you're amazing! Did you know you were just on TV? The news was broadcasting a rescue operation and just happened to catch you. Everyone admires you so much..."
The owner spoke excitedly, believing Lin Fan didn't know and reported it to him immediately.
Lin Fan frowned, what was that?
"Boss, calm down for a bit. I'm calling to ask if my girlfriend is at the hotel," Lin Fan said.
The owner replied, "She's not here. She said she couldn't reach you and went out to look for you. Did you run into her?"
Lin Fan's heart sank, feeling something amiss. He now hoped Loli was just in the shower and missed his call, rather than having gone out and missed his call, leaving her whereabouts unknown!
She went missing while looking for him, and he felt he had to find her.
Lin Fan found a plastic bag in the car, wrapped his phone in it to keep it from getting wet, then stuffed it in his pocket, ready to go find Loli.
Lin Fan had just checked the map on his phone while in the car and thought about where Loli might have passed by, then headed in that direction.
When he passed a flooded street, suddenly he heard the sound of an argument ahead. By now, the rain was starting to stop, only a light drizzle remained, so people dared to come out and about.
The street was filled with parked cars, including a tow truck.
A man and two women were arguing, right under the tow truck.
Initially, Lin Fan didn't want to bother with them, but because there were many people here, he thought he might as well ask them if they had seen Loli, so he went over.
"We agreed on 50, you can't do this!" the man said.
The two women, however, were quite assertive.
"What agreement? I never agreed to that!" one of the women retorted.
The man was about to explode from anger. Spotting Lin Fan, he grabbed Lin Fan, saying, "Buddy, I see you're walking, not a car owner. Why don't you judge fairly for me."
Lin Fan, unsure what they were arguing about, asked, "What's the situation?"
The man said, "Here's the deal; I'll explain it briefly. I'm the tow truck driver. Tonight, I got a call from a friend asking me to help tow his car because it stalled in the street due to heavy rain. I came and quickly pulled his car out of the flood. That should've been it, but there were many other cars stalled in the water. An older fellow saw me and asked if I'd help tow his car from over there to over here."
The man pointed to a spot about two or three hundred meters away, heavily flooded, with cars stalled in the water. This area, being on higher ground, wasn't flooded.
Due to the heavy rain, cars had stalled. If they remained submerged, the cars would be ruined.
Previously, Lin Fan was also worried about this, which is why he ventured out in the rain to move his car. Considering that, Lin Fan had been wise; if his car had been submerged and stalled, he'd have to call a tow truck too. His 8-million-dollar luxury car, if flooded, could become a pile of scrap.
The man continued, "The older fellow asked for my help and even offered to pay me. So, I towed his car, and he gave me 50 bucks. Then other car owners saw and asked me for help. I figured with the rain continuing, I might not work for the next few days. My family relies on me to provide. Just this chance to earn some money, so I agreed and used the same rate. I charged 50 bucks per car, and everyone was willing to pay, except these two, who refuse to pay!"
The man spoke, feeling helpless.
Lin Fan said, "From what you've said, you've done nothing wrong. The money is yours."
The man, grateful, said, "Buddy, you think I was right too? I told you, it's easier for observers to see things clearly. Thank you, brother!"
The two women weren't happy at all.
These two women, in their thirties, might have been family or friends; either way, they shared a similar odor.
"Where did this beggar come from, doesn't understand anything, just spouting nonsense!" One of the women rolled her eyes at Lin Fan.
"Exactly, what's it to you?" The other woman disdainfully glanced at Lin Fan, adding, "You look like you can't even afford a car, meddling in others' business!"
Lin Fan, due to saving people earlier, had torn his shirt to tie a baby to himself. Now, he looked quite tattered. His original attire was already cheap, and now even more so, these two women viewed him as a beggar.
Sweat beaded on Lin Fan's forehead. These women didn't need to be so harsh; he never intended to meddle in their affairs. But the man had pulled him over to hear him out, and he only shared his honest opinion based on what he heard.
"Did this man say anything wrong?" Lin Fan asked the two women.
The women gave Lin Fan the silent treatment, seemingly unwilling to interact with this "pauper."
The man said, "I wasn't lying. I'm straightforward. Before towing, I confirmed the 50 charge with the car owners. After they agreed, I towed. I also clarified with these two women—give me 50, and I'll tow for them. But now, they're not even willing to pay 50, only offering 30, breaking the agreement."
"Stop right there!" one woman said. "You mentioned the 50 charge, but I never agreed to pay that. I just agreed to let you tow the car."
The man got frustrated. "Buddy, do you hear that? They're being unreasonable. If they hadn't agreed, I wouldn't have towed their car!"
The other woman added, "You're ripping us off. You barely towed the car two or three hundred meters and want 50? You're so greedy. What's this, taking advantage of a disaster!"
"Exactly, taking advantage of a disaster. You're heartless!"
"Not expecting you to volunteer altruistically, hero style, but at least don't be so greedy!"
The two women chattered away with verbal attacks.
The man was left speechless, the women resorted to moral blackmail, and for a moment, he didn't know how to argue back, feeling disappointed.
"What you're saying is unfair," Lin Fan interjected, halting the women's verbal assault.
The women immediately expressed their displeasure, extremely displeased.
"Pauper, why are you rambling on!" one woman scolded furiously, nearly itching to lash out at Lin Fan.
