Starforce Warriors-Chapter 1002: Time For A Hug
Si Kongxue recalled for a moment and said, "This statue was very strange. At the beginning, its face had no features. It was just a blank white slate. I don’t know if it was originally like that or if the features were erased later."
This answer surprised Li Xiaofei even more.
The statue’s face had originally been a blank slate?
He considered a possibility. Just like the ancient Reaper clans such as the Ruò Iron Tribe, this divine statue might have once represented the deity worshipped by a race that had achieved perfect evolution. After the entire race ascended together, the statue had been left behind.
However, similar to the other ancient tribes, this statue too had been interfered with by some unknown force. However, the ascended race was far more powerful than the Ruò Iron Tribe. As a result, not only had they preserved the statue’s structure, but even its head had remained intact. Still, they had not managed to preserve its true face.
However, why had the statue gradually taken on his appearance after Si Kongxue prayed to it? What secret was hidden within this statue?
Li Xiaofei examined the jade-like statue from top to bottom, but he found nothing unusual. Then another thought struck him as he thought, could the strange energy of Oblivion and death within Si Kongxue's body be connected to this statue?
As he stared at the statue, which now bore his own likeness, countless questions swirled through his mind.
"Ever since I started praying before the statue, the valley has become increasingly safe. Oblivion began to grow docile, and Anyi was able to command the beasts. Eventually, they even became Anyi’s friends. Our life here slowly improved and the statue began to look more and more like you.
"The changes in my body are related to this statue. Every time I prayed, I could feel a new energy awakening inside me. It resonated with the statue. It was as if it were communicating with me, telling me something, and even granting me strength..."
Si Kongxue spoke softly.
Si Kongxue hid nothing from Li Xiaofei. In fact, the reason she had used her limited knowledge of daily life to create those civilized world lifestyle guides was because she harbored a deep fear of the statue.
She didn’t truly understand the power within her, but her intuition told her that it was a power related to death. A long time ago, she had once contemplated ending her own life from how suffocated she felt from her parents’ control. But now, she feared death because there were people she could not bear to leave behind.
She wrote down those lifestyle rules on beast hides, talked to her child daily, told her stories about her father, described life in the outside world, and nurtured a healthy personality in the girl.
After all, there was a chance that those once-docile wild beasts would not obey Li Anyi if the power inside her ever became uncontrollable. If she were to die, would her child be able to return to the civilized world one day? Would she be able to adapt? Would she be able to find her father? That was why she had poured all her time and energy into doing everything she could.
The good news was that Li Xiaofei had arrived before death could claim her. The man who had once been tangled in love and hate with her, and in the end had become her closest companion, the most steadfast man in her heart, had not failed his promise and had finally found her.
Si Kongxue knew very well how much hardship and danger one had to go through to cross countless realms and reach this place beyond the universe. So how could she possibly feel any resentment toward Li Xiaofei? Ten years of life and death was now merely a fog. She felt only tenderness for her man.
After listening to her story, Li Xiaofei had a few suspicions in his heart. Si Kongxue’s transformation must have had something to do with the experiments of the disciples of the Ancestor of Wisdom. However, he still could not say whether that transformation was ultimately good or bad.
Si Kongxue continued, "I can sense that the statue has absolute control over the Oblivions within this region. I tried to use the power of the statue to command beast kings far outside the valley a few times, and I succeeded."
Li Xiaofei’s heart stirred and he said, "It can do even that?"
Si Kongxue nodded. "However, the deathly power within me grows stronger each time I attempt it. So I don’t dare to try too often. I don’t know when this power might erupt, or what will happen when it does. Before that day comes, I just want to spend more time with Anyi."
Li Xiaofei held her delicate hand and said softly, "You’ve worked so hard."
Si Kongxue gave a faint smile. She had already accepted everything with calm resolve. One would always encounter all sorts of events in life. She had no regrets in meeting and falling in love with Li Xiaofei. If time could rewind and she had to choose again, she would still unhesitatingly walk the same path.
"By the way, how is Anxin?" Si Kongxue asked gently.
When she had been kidnapped by the people of Eden, her twin daughters had been forcibly separated. Li Anxin had been sent back and Si Kongxue had not seen her other daughter in over ten years.
Li Xiaofei replied, "She’s doing very well. Don’t worry."
Si Kongxue nodded, a look of contentment spreading across her face.
"I’ll find a way to resolve the strange energy inside you." After thinking for a moment, Li Xiaofei said, "Don’t worry. I’ll take you both away from here."
Si Kongxue smiled gently and replied, "I don’t think I can leave this valley."
Li Xiaofei was momentarily stunned and asked, "What do you mean?"
Si Kongxue explained, "I’ve tried before. The moment I step out of the valley, the Oblivion energy inside me erupts..."
Li Xiaofei furrowed his brow slightly.
"Could it be related to the statue?" asked Li Xiaofei. "Maybe if you leave together with the statue, it won’t trigger the Oblivion power’s eruption."
Si Kongxue replied, "I dug this statue out from the soil myself. It’s been standing under this big tree for so long that it can no longer be moved."
Li Xiaofei stood up and tried it himself. He could clearly sense faint threads of strange energy as he approached the statue. It was nearly identical to the deathly aura found in the Land of Annihilation.
After several attempts, his expression changed slightly. He discovered that even with his current strength, he couldn’t move the statue at all. It felt as though it had grown into this piece of heaven and earth.
Li Xiaofei thought for a moment and said, "Then let’s not leave just yet. I’ll stay with you two for a while. Let’s observe the situation before deciding anything."
"Alright, I’ll listen to you," replied Si Kongxue as she rested her delicate head against Li Xiaofei’s shoulder.
As long as she could be with him, she would be content even if the world lasted forever unchanged.
When nightfall came, the approaching beast herd let out a roar. They stopped outside the valley. A girl wearing a beautiful skirt made of beast hides skipped through the narrow gorge, as light on her feet as a little spirit.
"Are you two done?" She stood just outside the fenced courtyard, "If the old lovers are done reminiscing, I’m coming in now."
Li Xiaofei smiled and waved her over. Li Anyi pushed the door open and walked inside. She stood in front of Li Xiaofei with a beaming smile.
"Dad, isn’t it time for a hug?" asked Anyi as she opened her arms wide.
