Star Odyssey-Chapter 3477: Using
Chapter 3477: Using
Lu Yin's words caused Old Tao to tremble with fear. He quickly tried to explain things. "I am indeed the Phantom Reach’s Number Four, but this has nothing to do with you, Third Boss. My mission was to wait for the right moment to assassinate Yi Xia. Who would have expected for you to suddenly take me away, Third Boss? I never meant any disrespect towards you, and I never had any intentions of attacking you!
"That bastard Bu Ya must have acted on his own. There’s no way the Phantom Reach would have dared to offend the Grandverse Manor. That domain is not so foolish, and the people from the mythical land would nev—"
Lu Yin interrupted, "Why haven’t you contacted anyone from the Phantom Reach?"
Old Tao calmed down. "Because I am already a member of the Grandverse Manor. I am the Second Boss."
Lu Yin stared at him. "If that’s the case, then why didn’t you tell me any of this?"
Old Tao shrugged. "All the people of the Phantom Reach are dishonorable. They are either assassins or people who work on the rankings of the Black and White Spirit Lists. Such tasks are not looked upon favorably in the Spirit Nidus, and exposing one’s identity as a member of the Phantom Reach only leads to trouble.
"I just want to spend the rest of my life following you, Third Boss, no matter if we must face fire or rain. I don’t wish to cause any trouble at all."
Lu Yin believed Old Tao's story. The old man had indeed been dragged onto Boundless without any choice. No one could have known that Lu Yin and the others would suddenly arrive at Beacon City, and the old man had spent many years there. He had been there long before Lu Yin was even born.
Lu Yin stared at the old man as he desperately declared his unwavering loyalty. "I didn’t expect someone that I casually grabbed to serve as my guide to actually have such an important identity. The Phantom Reach is one of the seven major powers. That’s not simple at all."

Old Tao looked tortured. "If I had a choice, I would have never even joined the Phantom Reach!"
"I’ve heard that they have some old monster in that domain who’s as strong as a Seraph who’s been there for eons. Is that really true?"
"Yes, it’s true. There is an old monster, but I don’t know their exact strength."
"Can you still get in contact with the Phantom Reach?"
Old Tao was not sure what Lu Yin intended, but then the old man remembered the disaster that had befallen the Consciousness Domain, as well as Lu Yin’s plan to visit the Primal Beastland. So, the old man cautiously warned, "Third Boss, the Phantom Reach is different from both the Consciousness Domain and the Primal Beastland. It is an extremely secretive power that won’t fight you openly or directly."
"Answer the question."
"Yes, I can contact the Phantom Reach."
"Try now. See what the Phantom Reach wants you to do, given that you're now with me."
Old Tao did not dare to refuse and immediately tried to contact the Phantom Reach.
It did not take him long to succeed.
"Number Four?"
"Tell your people to pull back. If they keep observing, the Third Boss will notice them."
"How’s your situation?"
Old Tao glanced at Lu Yin before replying in a low voice, "It’s fine."
"What is the Grandverse Manor’s goal?"
"I don’t know. I haven’t been able to infiltrate their core circle yet."
"Find out. The Phantom Reach won’t treat you poorly, and we can also protect you."
Old Tao made a mocking expression, making sure that Lu Yin saw it so that the Third Boss would understand that the old man did not trust the Phantom Reach’s promises. "I understand. What else do you want me to do? The Third Boss is currently injured and in seclusion. This is the only chance I will have to contact you."
There were a few moments of silence, as if the other person was asking for instructions.
After a while, the reply came, "Find a way to get the Third Boss to help us eliminate some threats. Such as... Qian."
Old Tao was shocked. "Qian?"
"You know them. If you do well, you will become the leader of the Phantom Reach. Remember, don’t let the Third Boss find out."
The call ended.
"Qian?" Lu Yin looked at Old Tao.
Old Tao carefully replied, "Qian was once a powerful expert who fought to become one of the Seven Seraphs. He’s a powerful Ortuser.
"The last time a Seraph’s seat became vacant, many powerful figures fought for the position. But ultimately, because of the Cauldron Bell, Bao Qi succeeded. If not for that sequence base, no one knows who would have succeeded.
"Back then, Bao Qi had referred to those who competed with him for the position of Seraph as mad dogs."
Lu Yin understood. That was where the term “mad dog” had come from.
In the branch stream of the River of Aeons, before Bao Qi had died in the Mirari Realm, he had mentioned that, as soon as a Seraph’s position became available, a group of mad dogs would fight for it. Because of that, a pack of mad dogs would be drawn to the Tianyuan Megaverse if he died. It turned out that his former rivals were those mad dogs.
"Are there a lot of people like that?"
Old Tao said, "I’m not sure. All of them are ancient monsters who stay hidden. Not even the High Seraph knows if those people are dead or alive. They only appear when a Seraph’s seat becomes vacant.
"This Qian is one of those ancient experts. Everyone thought that he died while fighting against Bao Qi during the competition to become Seraph, but it turns out that he's still alive."
Lu Yin grew puzzled. "Even if he is still alive, what does he have to do with the Phantom Reach? Why do they want to eliminate him? He doesn’t seem to be on the Black Spirit List, is he?"
Old Tao grew solemn. "It’s because the Phantom Reach also wants to compete for the position of Seraph."
Lu Yin then understood. As soon as Yuan Qi returned, he had challenged the Ascendant Hall, clearly staging a rebellion. He would not be able to maintain his position as a Seraph for much longer. As soon as the High Seraph emerged from seclusion, his title would be revoked. Then, people would start fighting for it.
Despite being one of the seven major powers in the Spirit Nidus, the Phantom Reach lacked a Seraph.
"Is the position of Seraph really that desirable?" Lu Yin asked in confusion. "Anyone who’s capable of becoming a Seraph should already have an exceptional status in the Spirit Nidus, even without being one of the Seven Seraphs. Why the need to fight for that title?"
Old Tao did not know the answer to that question. "It’s possible that there are additional benefits to becoming a Seraph that most people are unaware of."
Lu Yin immediately reached out to Boundless and asked Yuan Qi the same question. Lu Yin had not bothered before, and he had simply assumed that the Seven Seraphs were titles that were given as symbols of status.
When the Spirit Nidus had sent the vanguard into the Tianyuan Megaverse, the Seven Seraphs had been respected experts. They had clearly been very powerful individuals, but their numbers were not overwhelming, so Lu Yin had not thought much about it.
It was normal for powerful people to hold a more elevated title.
However, after entering the Spirit Nidus, Lu Yin had learned that their megaverse had numerous powerhouses who had all competed for the position of Seraph. Those people were even so desperate that Bao Qi had referred to them as mad dogs. Lu Yin felt like he needed to take this matter a bit more seriously.
Why did they feel the need to become one of the Seven Seraphs? There had to be a reason for it.
Yuan Qi’s reply arrived quickly. "Because only the High Seraph is allowed into the deepest regions of the Apex Palace where they can see the elusive invincible being. While none of us have ever seen that being, the invincible being is most likely an Immortal. If there’s even just a one in a billion chance, we are willing to wait, and to keep waiting.
"Only by becoming one of the Seven Seraphs can one become the next High Seraph. The current High Seraph was once one of the Seven Seraphs.
"In particular, on the Day of Offering, only the High Seraph and the Seven Seraphs are allowed to perform the rituals. When that happens, it is possible to see a different scenery."
Lu Yin was caught off guard. "A different scenery?"
Yuan Qi replied, "I haven't seen it myself, and when I spoke to the other Seraphs about it, they told me that they weren’t able to either. However, even if they actually did, they wouldn’t tell me. The High Seraph once said that being able to see that different scenery meant being qualified to become the High Seraph. He saw it, and because of that, even if the other Seraphs saw it, they will never admit to it, as they do not want to be targeted.
"All of this is nothing more than rumors, and it could even just be a method for the High Seraph to retain control, but no one wants to give up the chance.
"Also, the High Seraph has the authority to command any of the Spirit Nidus’s resources, no matter which faction they belong to. That includes even the seven major powers..."
Becoming one of the Seven Seraphs was not just a matter of status. It was also related to the invincible being, as well as the opportunity to become the High Seraph. It was no wonder why so many people fought for the title.
Lu Yin ended his conversation with Yuan Qi. "Where is this Qian?"
"Are you going, Third Boss?" Old Tao asked.
Lu Yin stretched his arms. "I want to find this megaverse’s top experts, and the Phantom Reach has helped me do that. Why wouldn’t I go?"
"But the Phantom Reach is using you!"
"That’s fine. Only those with sufficient value qualify to be used. Lead the way."
Old Tao nodded helplessly.
Soon after that, the sedan left the interstellar city, heading in a specific direction.
It appeared that the Third Boss had forgotten that he was supposed to be traveling to the Ascendant Hall’s Apex Palace to carve on its walls. People simply could not make sense of Lu Yin’s travels.
This was exacerbated by the fact that he had stated that he was injured and would stay in the interstellar city to recover. How much time had passed since then? He was already leaving, and he was clearly moving with a purpose.
Everyone looked in the direction the sedan was moving in. What was in that direction?
"That’s the direction of the Wisdom Domain... The Third Boss isn’t going to the Wisdom Domain, is he?" someone exclaimed.
Others had their own speculations. "That’s not impossible. The Consciousness Domain wasn’t able to stop the Third Boss. The Wisdom Domain might not be able to do any better."
"But that’s the Wisdom Domain! They control the distribution of resources in the entire Spirit Nidus! That domain’s history is even older than the High Seraph himself! Hurry up! If he really is going to the Wisdom Domain, we have to follow him!" someone said excitedly.
Everyone wanted to uncover the Wisdom Domain’s secrets, but no one was bold enough to attempt it.
The Wisdom Domain was the only faction that the High Seraph had declared would not be allowed to have any of their people become a Seraph. Everyone was curious about the domain.
It would be interesting if the Third Boss really did visit the Wisdom Domain.
...
The sedan continued to move through the universes, and it was not at all slow. Only cultivators with the strength of Spirit Ancestors were able to keep up.
The sedan was moving much faster than when it had traveled to the Consciousness Domain.
The different major factions quickly sent people to shadow the Third Boss, and some of the groups which had already withdrawn their people even sent them back out.
Everyone was very clear on the Third Boss’s next target; it had to be the Wisdom Domain.
A few days later, the sedan’s direction diverted slightly, which left everyone quite confused. Was the Third Boss not going to the Wisdom Domain?
Lu Yin was moving closer and closer to the location that he had received from the Phantom Reach, but this location was not a part of the thirty-six domains. It was just a region with a few chaotically scattered asteroid belts. There was not even an interstellar city nearby. It was a completely desolate area.
The sedan came to a stop. "Toady, go give it a try."
Astral Anura clenched his jaw. "Again? It shouldn't be my turn."
"You’re right."
Astral Anura blinked. He’s really agreeing that easily?
Lu Yin then looked over at Palace Master Yao. "You go and find that Qian."
Palace Master Yao was surprised. "Me?"
"You know who he is, right? Qian!"
"Qian isn’t dead?" Palace Master Yao was even more surprised. She had not known their destination, but she had not even considered that Qian would be their target.
She was familiar with Qian. When Bao Qi had been fighting to become a Seraph, she had also participated. However, at that time, she had not been considered the most powerful cultivator beneath the Seven Seraphs. There had been a gap between her and old monsters like Qian. She had only gotten involved in the fight once from a distance, at which time she had personally witnessed Qian deliver a blow to Bao Qi.
I thought that Qian was already dead, but it turns out that he's still alive. Why didn’t Bao Qi go find Qian and get revenge?
"Is Qian here?" Palace Master Yao asked.
Lu Yin took a sip of his drink. "Force him out."
There were some matters that did not need to be handled personally. If Lu Yin needed to do everything, then what was the point of traveling with an entourage? He needed to maintain a bit of an impression, after all. Even if everything was just an act, it was an act for others to watch.
Palace Master Yao’s brow furrowed as she slowly stepped away. "I'm no match for Qian as I am now."
With that, she entered the asteroid field without even waiting for Lu Yin's response.
The people who were shadowing Lu Yin all grew confused. They had no idea what Lu Yin was doing. What could possibly be in such a desolate place?
As Palace Master Yao entered the asteroid field, green water appeared around her. The water quickly transformed into sharp swords that slashed out. It was the Bifrost Unscathed Sword.
The asteroid field shattered as the battle technique seemed to transform the region into a second Bifrost Palace.
