Chapter 568: Favor

Lin Sanju was willing to help Fei Chuan. After all, Fei Chuan had helped him many times, and it was because of him that he managed to rise through the ranks in the Lin family with ease.

However, Bei Sangyun was his cousin, and she was the backbone of the fourth branch. He was even more grateful to Bei Sangyun.

Lin Sanju stared at him. "You’re my friend, and I’m very grateful to you. I’m willing to help you, no matter what it is. But Bei Sangyun is my precious cousin. My family and I owe her our lives. If your intentions toward her are sincere, I’ll help you win her back. But if you’re not serious about her, then even if I’m indebted to you, I’ll choose my cousin over you."

"I know what you’re worried about. You can beat me up if I ever hurt her again."

Lin Sanju continued to stare at him. He had known Fei Chuan for a long time, and among all the men in the world, he felt most at ease entrusting his cousin to him.

"I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but I hope you can fix it. You two seemed to really like each other, even back in high school."

Fei Chuan remembered those high school days—memories he had buried deep and only revisited when he was drunk. Back then, thinking of those times only brought pain and longing.

Now, he was glad he could recall them without the ache. Those moments weren’t lies; they were genuine feelings shared between them.

"I’ll fix this. No matter what."

Lin Sanju finally smiled. He truly didn’t want to be caught in the middle of the two people he cared about.

"I also have something to ask you," Fei Chuan said after a brief pause. He looked at Lin Sanju intently. "Your friend, Xu Tian, right? I heard he’s working at Phoenix Holdings."

"Ah, yeah. He’s definitely my friend. I actually wanted him to work with me in the Lin family, but he declined. So I recommended him to Phoenix Holdings. He’s reliable, and his skills are solid. I can vouch for him."

Fei Chuan went quiet for a moment. He tapped the table twice, then finally asked, "Does he have a girlfriend?"

Lin Sanju: "....."

That was an odd question.

His expression must have looked strange because Fei Chuan quickly added, "I have a friend who likes him, so I was just asking. I want to introduce him to someone."

"Oh." Lin Sanju nodded, then paused. If it had come from someone else, it wouldn’t have sounded strange. But coming from Fei Chuan—who wasn’t the type to play matchmaker and didn’t even have female friends—it was odd.

He was curious if that was really the reason. But since Fei Chuan said it that way, he didn’t pry. "That man’s been single since birth."

Fei Chuan’s expression turned solemn. "I see."

Lin Sanju: ??

He didn’t look pleased with that answer.

"Then do you know if he likes someone or is interested in anyone?"

"We’ve never really talked about women. But I doubt it."

"Do you have any idea what his type might be?"

"...No. We’ve honestly never discussed things like that."

"Do you think he’d be interested in a beautiful, strong, charismatic, bossy woman?"

Lin Sanju: "...."

Fei Chuan suddenly ruffled his hair in frustration. "Of course he would. There’s no way he wouldn’t like her," he muttered. Then he looked at Lin Sanju again.

He seemed to be calculating something in his head, like he was making a big decision. "Can you ask him to make some time? I want him to meet my friend."

"...The friend who likes him?"

"Yes. That friend."

"Uhm. I’ll try. He’s really not into dating, so I’m not sure if he’ll agree."

"That’s even better if he’s not interested in dating..." Fei Chuan muttered under his breath.

Lin Sanju: ??

Fei Chuan stood up. "Let me know if he replies. And don’t tell Bei Sangyun I asked you to invite her to the banquet."

"That I can promise."

Fei Chuan then left, leaving Lin Sanju standing there, more curious than ever.

Assistant Cheng was having a rare day off and enjoying his meal—samgyupsal sizzling on the grill, filling the air with a mouthwatering aroma.

His boss had finally stopped hopping from grave to grave. Although he had picked up a new hobby—stalking Bei Sangyun—it was still far better than the emotionally and phyiscally draining grave visits.

Cheng Li didn’t know what had gotten into his boss lately, but Fei Chuan had locked himself in his office today, giving Cheng Li some much-needed time to relax and do whatever he pleased.

So far, he had hit the tennis court, played a few rounds, then settled down for a hearty meal. Everything was perfect.

Until his phone rang.

The familiar ringtone immediately made the joyful smile on his face vanish.

He tried to ignore it at first—his boss had said he could take the day off. But when the phone kept ringing and ringing, Assistant Cheng finally gave in and picked up with a sigh.

Fei Chuan’s hoarse voice came through instantly.

"What should I do to get her back?"

Assistant Cheng, still with a mouthful of grilled meat: "..."

"I know I should ask for forgiveness. But what else can I do to soften her heart?"

Cheng swallowed and fought the urge to grumble, Did you really call and ruin my rare, sacred day off for this?

Still, he replied politely, "Boss, are you drunk? You sound like you need a lot of rest."

"I am not. I am sober."

Assistant Cheng wiped his lips with napkin, feeling helpless. "You Uh, maybe try giving her some flowers? I mean, no woman dislikes flowers."

"Right."

Click. The call ended.

Assistant Cheng stared at his phone, speechless. He really had called just for that.

The next day, as soon as he arrived at work, Fei Chuan told him to find the best flower shop in the city. When Assistant Cheng gave a recommendation, Fei Chuan immediately dragged him there to choose flowers in person.

Assistant Cheng watched in silence. He didn’t know much about flowers, so he wasn’t much help.

When he saw that Fei Chuan planned to send the bouquet without even including a note, he couldn’t help but ask, "Why don’t you write something for her? Like a message with, ’Forgive me’ or ’I’m sorry’?"

Fei Chuan shook his head. "I should say that to her personally."

Assistant Cheng silently bet that Bei Sangyun would either throw the bouquet away or hand it off to someone else. If Fei Chuan had at least included his name or a heartfelt message, there might be a better chance she’d keep it.

But Assistant Cheng said nothing more and simply watched his boss begin sending flowers—every single morning. Then came the chocolates, and even expensive snacks—delivered right to Bei Sangyun’s doorstep.

"What else would a woman like? Jewelry?" Fei Chuan asked, seriously contemplating it.

"No. Please, not that," Assistant Cheng replied quickly, nearly wincing at the thought. "Ms. Bei doesn’t seem like the type who needs jewelry. But... she would probably like it and keep it—if it came from you. You better give something like that in person. Or at least add a note."

Fei Chuan nodded thoughtfully. "How about clothes? Or stuffed toys?"

"If you’re still not planning to put your name on the card, then better not do it," Assistant Cheng said flatly. "That teddy bear you send? It’ll probably end up dirty and abandoned."

The excitement on Fei Chuan’s face suddenly vanished. "Is that so?"

Assistant Cheng sighed. "Why don’t you just approach her directly, Boss? That would make a bigger impact than anonymously sending all these gifts." Which he was sure had been thrown away by now.

"I will. I’m just waiting for the right time." freewebnσvel.cѳm

"And what if it never comes?"

"Then I’ll make the right time," Fei Chuan answered solemnly.

Assistant Cheng nodded. It seemed his boss knew exactly what he wanted. "Then save all these efforts for when that time comes."

"I know. But I still want to do something for her." Fei Chuan looked down at the bouquet he had carefully picked out that morning to be sent to Bei Sangyun’s villa. "I know she might’ve thrown it away. But that’s still better than me doing nothing—just sitting around and waiting."

Assistant Cheng felt a wave of frustration for his boss. The two of them were like playing tug-of-war. So much had happened between them. Just when he thought they were finally going to be together, they would break up. And just when it seemed truly over, something like this would happen again.

They were stuck in a loop. Even though it was clear they still had feelings for each other, choosing one another was the hardest part.

"Can you really live without her, Boss?"

Fei Chuan nodded, his eyes steady and solemn. "I can’t."

Assistant Cheng had heard enough. He patted him on the shoulder. "Then let’s go all out. So—when is the right time?"
