Standing Next To You-Chapter 193: Last Words
Chapter 193: Last Words
As Fei Chuan was lost in thought, a slender arm suddenly reached out and hugged his shoulders from behind. His body stiffened, and his initial reaction was to push the person away.
But the woman behind him tightened her hold and whispered, "We are still on stage."
Her hot breath tickled his ears, causing them to flush red.
This wasn’t in the script!
Actually, all of Bei Sangyun’s part had been omitted from the script. The version handed to him only contained his lines.
Fei Chuan didn’t really understand why she had to play it this way. Why act so mysteriously?
However, despite his complaints, he lowered his hand and allowed Bei Sangyun to hug him.
On the stage, the woman in the white dress embraced the man.
Despite having observed the man over the years, her presence went unnoticed. The fog around her seemed to blend seamlessly with her.
For all those years, amid the blurry memories and doubts, one thing remained clear to her: Him.
Her memories began to fade, but he consistently visited her, and amidst the dimming recollections, his name, his face, and the memories with him remained.
Whenever she teetered on the edge of darkness and gloom, the man’s voice would pull her up, calling her name with various emotions, so clearly, allowing her to remember who she was.
He accompanied her in moments of loneliness, entertaining her with stories when she was bored to death. Through his gentle voice and eyes filled with remorse, Bei Sangyun experienced a range of emotions.
She never expected that the comfort she had longed for in life would be provided by the man whom she thought hated her. After her death, she never anticipated feeling warmth again. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Many emotions flashed in Bei Sangyun’s eyes.
"Fei Chuan..." Bei Sangyun blurted out the man’s name as she had longed to do for years. Her voice was filled with unknown longings, a little bit of fondness, and a huge amount of complexity.
Fei Chuan stiffened under her call.
"...Thank you. Thank you for accompanying me all these years. You showed me that this world still has its beauty. Because of you, I don’t despise it as much as I did." Bei Sangyun leaned on Fei Chuan’s thin but strong back. Taking advantage of the stage- the man could not push her away.
"I am sorry for leaving so early. But I am a bad person. I don’t feel sorry at all seeing you cry for me. Will you hate me if I say that I don’t want you to move on and forget about me?"
Fei Chuan’s hand, resting on his side, turned into a fist. A stir in his heart caused him to feel breathless.
The frustration of the man in his dream seemed to have surfaced in his head. Or why else would his heart beat fast? Why did he feel a bit happy and a bit angry from her words?
Bei Sangyun tightened her hug around his neck as if wanting to infuse her soul into him. "I don’t want you to leave me alone," Bei Sangyun said to the man whose appearance aged with each visit.
She was a bad person, selfish, and greedy for that little warmth. Every time he left, she felt lonely and anxious that he wouldn’t return.
She was grateful but also greedy.
"But I’ll change." Bei Sangyun let go of the man’s neck. She picked up the flower on her side and stood up. "I should not keep you in this sorrowful dream. I am the cause of your misery and regrets. I don’t want myself to disappear from your memories, but I don’t want to see your crying face anymore."
Bei Sangyun looked at the man with a smile. "You healed me, and now it’s your turn to heal."
’I am sorry for making you miserable for many years. I am sorry for leaving so early and leaving you alone. Thanks to you, the anger and despise I had towards the world disappeared. My heart no longer feels so heavy because of you.’
These were the words she wanted to convey from the bottom of her heart to the man who had accompanied her for many years. She no longer wanted to witness his misery, hear his happy yet sorrowful stories, or see that gentle smile that pierced her heart.
Even though she was greedy, his sincere companionship had touched her heart. Despite being frightened by the darkness of solitude, she wished for him to move forward and genuinely leave her- his misery- behind.
This was the end. There was no more script after this.
Butler Xin, holding the complete script in his hand, signaled the staff to turn off the spotlight and the mics, indicating the end of the performance.
As the stage darkened, the man on the ground suddenly turned around and grabbed the edge of the woman’s dress.
Then the entire stage turned dark.
The three judges, with unshed tears in their eyes, stood up. Was that the end? Or was there more?
The stage remained dark, and the lights did not come on for a long time.
In the darkness, Bei Sangyun felt a tug on her clothes.
"What—"
"Bullshit." Fei Chuan’s angry voice reached Bei Sangyun’s ears.
Bei Sangyun was taken aback. ’Bullshit?’
Did he not like her ’last words’?
Fei Chuan could not see Bei Sangyun because it was too dark. However, he knew she was there.
His rapidly beating heart seemed to come out of his chest. Overwhelming emotions were erupting inside of him. He stood up and held her arm in the darkness, not letting go. It was as if he let go, she would disappear in the dark and leave him forever.
"Heal? That’s all you want to say? That man... doesn’t want to heal."
In his dream, he witnessed the man’s sorrow, regrets, and misery. He felt the man’s heart breaking into pieces with no way to fix them up.
However, despite the overwhelming pain, the man chose to receive it and endure it. Because he did not want to forget. Because he was punishing himself for his ignorance.
"On the day he died, he went to the grave despite not even being able to walk. Because he wanted to be close to her the day he breathed his last. Even at the end of his life, all he wanted was to accompany you."
Fei Chuan’s eyes turned red. He did not know why he was so affected. This was only a play, so there was no need to react strongly.
It must be because of those damn dreams.
