Standing Next To You-Chapter 178: In His Dreams
Chapter 178: In His Dreams
In the high-rise hotel, Bei Sangyun was watching the traffic below. The colorful lights reflected in her deep eyes, and her expressionless face revealed nothing about what was going on in her mind.
This still silence was interrupted by a loud ring. Bei Sangyun calmly answered the phone, and Butler Xin’s voice sounded.
"Master, as you have expected, Head Master Lin seems willing to forgive the Simons. I can’t believe he is willing to let go of the matter even after hearing the recording." Butler Xin seemed affected by the old man’s decision. He muttered in annoyance, "How can he let the perpetrator who almost violated her granddaughter go without repercussion?"
"What are you angry for? The old man has been like that. The decades of friendship he has with the Simon family and the benefits it brings outweigh the relationship he has with a granddaughter that his son picked up out of nowhere. I have only been in the Lin mansion for less than twenty years, while his relationship with the Simon family is more than that. Of course, he is going to protect their friendship more." Bei Sangyun calmly analyzed for her upset butler.
"If you knew this beforehand, why did you still give him the recording? You should have used it wisely or sent it to the police."
Bei Sangyun played with her fingers, "There’s no use in doing that. The matter will end up being covered anyway. It is better to let it fall into the hands of that old man."
"But the desired outcome is nowhere to be seen. And there’s more, I heard that bastard from the Simon family offered to be your fiancé. How outrageous."
Bei Sangyun was amused hearing the emotion in Butler Xin’s voice. This shrewd man, was his heart turning soft for her? She did not expect that, but Butler Xin was so easy to mold. Compared to the past, that is.
Butler Xin’s tone suddenly became worried, "Head Master Lin won’t consider that matter, right? He won’t just accept the man who almost violated his granddaughter to be your fiancé, right?"
Bei Sangyun chuckled, "As if you don’t know that old man. He is capable of that. Think of it, the sole heir of the Simon family offered himself to marry his most useless granddaughter, isn’t this a win-win situation for the family? No matter what that pervert did, since he could bring strong ties using me, it is worth it. Not only the humiliation of having his kin almost being violated be buried, but he also gained the only heir of the Simon family as his grandson-in-law."
There was a curse on the other line. Butler Xin must have figured out that it would be likely the case and cursed out in anger.
"Then what are you going to do? What if Head Master Lin accepted the deal? Are you really going to accept that pervert as your fiancé?"
"Why would I?" Bei Sangyun laughed. "That pervert can only dream of marrying me. Don’t worry, that bastard won’t be my fiancé, not in this lifetime, nor in the future."
Butler Xin remained silent. After a while, he exhaled in relief. "Well, since you are not worried, you must have planned ahead. Is there anything I could do?"
Bei Sangyun’s reflection in the window smiled evilly, "There is. Let’s put on some more drama."
.....
Inside the room, Richard faced Old Master Lin as he kneeled. He apologized, sounding sincere. He even willingly offered himself to be Bei Sangyun’s fiancé to avoid ruining her reputation.
Mr. Simon looked nervously at his old friend, who seemed to be seriously considering Richard’s offer. He could not help but interrupt.
"Old Lin, we admit that this is my grandson’s fault. We will compensate your granddaughter as much as you want. However, my grandson’s marriage can’t just be decided so easily."
Old Master Lin glanced at him coldly. He could tell right away the worries on Mr. Simon’s heart. He laughed coldly. "Are you saying my granddaughter is not worthy of your only grandson? Sure, Sangyun has an unstable status unlike my other granddaughters. However, she is still a Lin family member. Since your grandson is willing, why can’t you give your consent? After all, this problem has been caused by your grandson. Let him fix this matter. Stop shielding him."
Mr. Simon paled. The shrewdness of his old friend was being used against him this time. He took a deep breath.
"I understand that you are angry. But please understand as well that Richard is my only grandson. He is my only heir. Unlike you, who has other capable heirs you can choose from, Richard is the only one I have to lead our family. The position of his fiancée will play a big role in his future. Please don’t take this away from him."
"Grandpa, I have to take responsibility for this matter-" Richard interrupted, but Mr. Simon yelled at him.
"Shut up! You are too young! You don’t know anything!"
Richard was harshly rebuked. He was still afraid of angering his grandfather, so he kept quiet. But he looked at Old Master Lin sincerely, as if he was willing to sacrifice himself just to take responsibility for this matter.
Mr. Simon took a deep breath once more, "There is really no need for marriage. Our ties are strong because of our friendship. There’s no need to consider this." Mr. Simon tried to persuade his friend.
But would Old Lin, this shrewd old man, let this huge opportunity pass by?
Bei Sangyun’s origin has been exposed to the public. In the future, who would be willing to marry his granddaughter, who has a status the same as those illegitimate children? The answer was evident. Only those who had lower status than them or those illegitimate children. Worst, old men or widowed men.
Richard, the sole heir of the Simon family, offering to be Bei Sangyun’s fiancé was already a steal. This was the best fiancé he could give for his granddaughter. Although there was this incident, with time, everything would heal.
Furthermore, based on his understanding with Bei Sangyun, that child knew what situation was best. She would surely let this matter go and accept Richard. Although she won’t be a contender for the heir anymore because of this arranged marriage, her future was still set.
Old Master Lin sharply glanced at Richard, "Are you truly willing to let her be your fiancé? You understand the responsibilities for that, right?"
Richard bowed his head and solemnly promised. "I will ask forgiveness from her for the rest of my life. Please let me take care of her."
Sophia and Mr. Simon looked at Richard aghast.
With a lowered head, Richard’s eyes glinted. Only he knew what was running on his mind.
Old Master Lin squinted his eyes, "Fine. If you manage to convince her before you leave, I will give you my consent."
Old Master Lin believed that with Bei Sangyun’s IQ, she would let go of the past and grab this opportunity to rise in status.
Richard gratefully thanked Old Master Lin.
The people in the room had several complicated feelings and had troubles in their minds. The night in the Lin mansion was bound to be not a peaceful night.
