Chapter 198: Chapter 198 Victory

Reena held her stomach as she had no idea what had happened, but before she could realize what was happening, his next spell hit, and unlike his [Flame Arrow], it exploded upon impact.

The spell exploded and sent her towards the barrier. Her back hit the barrier with a thud, and then she fell to the ground.

Roman began walking toward her slowly, his steps calm and steady. He wasn’t rushing. He didn’t need to.

Reena hit the ground on her knees, one hand pressed to her stomach, her breath shaking. The barrier placed on her by the mages still shimmered faintly around her body; it had taken hits but not been destroyed.

One more hit and it would break... but she still hadn’t given up.

Roman kept moving forward, but his eyes shifted for a moment toward the noble families, and he turned his head sideways staring at them.

He could feel their stares...sharp, cold, judging. Like they were saying, he shouldn’t even be here, but they couldn’t take away the fact that he just beat a female mage who was from a noble family.

It didn’t bother Roman, though... he wanted the nobles to see him, see what he was capable of; even the Queen was surprised, but Roman couldn’t afford to stare at the Queen.

He turned back to Reena as he stopped right in front of her.

Reena looked up, sweat on her face, her hair messy, her hands shaking, and she was breathing heavily as she had sustained burning damage on her stomach.

Even though the barrier removes the damage done, it doesn’t eliminate the pain, to make the experience as close to real life as possible. If the pain were removed, it wouldn’t feel like a battle.

She tried to stand, but her legs gave out again. Even so, she lifted her chin.

"I’m... not done," she breathed out, even though her voice trembled.

Roman didn’t smile this time. He respected her effort, of course, if he only had the flame attribute, she would have won, but she wasn’t someone who could defeat him, even with his inferior Mana pool.

"You fought hard," he said quietly, "But I need this win more than you"

Reena forced her hand up like she was going to cast again, but Roman didn’t take any chances as he held her hand and directed it away from his face but nothing happened.

It seems she was really out of strength as he let go of her hand.

Still, she didn’t lower her hand.

Roman sighed softly, stepped a little closer, raised one hand, and cast the final spell.

[Fireball]

A small spark of flame formed in his hands. He didn’t infuse much mana into it, just enough to finish it.

"This is it," he whispered as the barrier around her cracked and broke.

Reena closed her eyes, accepting the outcome but refusing to bow her head even though she was tired, the mages outside pulled down the barrier and rushed inside the arena.

Roman backed away from her and turned towards the Queen, who had a look on her face; he knew she was angry at the fact that he had won.

"The winner of this match is Roman," The announcer spoke, but the applause he got was few, his family and the girls in the academy, along with a few noble families.

"I never thought I would see a male capable of wielding magic like this. This is truly interesting," Ava’s mother spoke.

Even though she wanted Roman to be paired with her daughter for breeding, now she was even more intrigued, the stronger the parents are, the more powerful the child would be.

But all these while it’s usually the female who is strong and the male, even with their A-rank ability, are still not powerful, but if Roman, who is S-rank and this powerful, were to mate with a female of equal power, the results would be astonishing.

The Queen stood up the next moment with a forced smile on her face and walked away, Faylen following behind her.

Roman knew she would have tried the [Mana Drain] bracelet during the match, but the effects were already negated and nullified by his ability.

The nobles began leaving their seats one after the other, whispering among themselves. Some looked annoyed, some confused, some even angry...but none of them could deny what they saw.

A male had just beaten a noble-born mage in a fair duel, even though he was S-rank, Reena was A-rank, and a female, so it shouldn’t even be possible for Roman to overpower her.

A few nobles gave Roman sharp glares as they walked past, as if blaming him for ruining their expectations, most of them already knew about the tournament and why it was organized.

So if Roman were to fail, most of their children would be given a chance to mate with him, thereby increasing their power and influence.

Others looked at him with new curiosity, trying to understand how he had won.

Reena’s parents, on the other hand, left quietly, their expressions stiff. They clearly weren’t happy. A member of the Whitestone family was the first to lose to a male; it wasn’t a good look on them.

Meanwhile, the mages who rushed into the arena the moment the barrier came down. Two of them knelt beside Reena, placing glowing hands over her stomach and chest.

Warm healing light washed over Reena’s body. Her breathing steadied, and the shaking in her arms slowed.

Reena didn’t look at anyone. She kept her eyes on the floor, trying to process everything that had happened; she still had no idea.

She didn’t even see the spell that hit her. At first, she had thought it was too fast for her to see, but now that she thought about it, she should have noticed, no matter how fast.

Roman stood a few steps away. He knew she would be depressed after this. Reena, who was already shy, could be even more reserved. He was definitely going to talk to her after the match.

Soon, the girls walked over from their seats.

Aurelia reached him first. "You... actually won," she said.

"Why does it sound like you’re surprised?" Roman asked.

"That’s because we are, I thought you were done for after the spells, how did you block all that?" Ava asked.
