Chapter 248: The Plan

Aren sat inside the room beside Athena, she clung to his arm, head resting on his shoulder while he stared at June, a glare in his eyes.

"Looking at me like that doesn’t do anything," June said, her eyes carried very little emotion. She looked at Aren, "and whatever you have planned, I’d suggest you toss it out right now," June added.

"You are assuming I have a plan." Aren responded.

"Well, it would be monumentally stupid if you came here without a single plan on how you want to escape." June stated, she leaned forward, "not that having a plan would work, but still," She lifted her hands and placed them on the side of her head, "it would show that you were at least smart."

"You know what, considering the fact that you thought coming here was even a good idea, then I understand that you are not smart." She added.

Aren smirked, "when it comes to saving someone important, things like that are meaningless." Aren said.

"That’s single handedly the most stupid concept I have ever heard. If you have no plan, you risk the person you want to save, as well as yourself." June said, she got on her feet and then walked toward Aren.

"As much as I hate her being here, I’d cut you down before you can even think of escaping with her." June said, then she turned and walked to the door, "I’m leaving for now, I’ll be back soon." She walked out of the room, not even sparing a glance at Peter who was sitting there.

Peter didn’t want the chance to actually talk to her to go away, so he shot to his feet and followed her outside.

"June." He called to her. She stopped and then turned around.

"Peter." She replied.

His eyes lit up, he walked closer, "we couldn’t really talk much before when you were coming back." He said, there was a hint of eagerness in his voice.

"You had more to say?" She asked in a completely flat tone.

"Yeah." He replied, his voice instantly losing its vigor after her response being lacklustre. "There is a lot I’d like to talk to you about, a lot to catch up on, the years that have gone by." He said.

"Hmmm, I see." She replied, "but that’s not important to me now." She said after, her words like a blade through his chest, she looked at him without a single care.

"Peter, the me you knew when we were young isn’t who I am, and whatever you had with me was only a fleeting time, forget it." She said and then turned around, "your purpose is to serve the family, and not to make relationships work." She said and then walked off, her voice was as cold as ice, and as sharp as a blade, cutting into his heart.

Peter physically trembled, he collapsed to his knees right there and buried his head into the ground, he didn’t shout, he didn’t sob, all he did was stay in that very pose.

After what seemed like a minute, he clenched his fists and rose to his feet, the look in his eyes was not that of someone that had lost something, but someone that had just received a shift in purpose.

He clenched his fist, "this family is a curse, one that I refuse to live in anymore." He said and then turned to the door, he opened it and walked back into the room.

"Whatever plan that you have for escaping, I’m in, I’m willing to help whatever way possible." Peter said. Aren looked at him shocked, he had not used shadow sense, so he didn’t know what had happened at all.

"What’s with the change of heart?" Aren asked.

"I want to see what the outside holds, I’m no longer staying here if there is no reason for me to stay. All that’s here is pain and torture, and I have seen enough." Peter expressed himself.

Aren looked at him and then nodded, "I might have a plan, but sadly, we might have to settle in for a day or two, tensions are high, and we might get caught." Aren said, and then looked at Athena.

"You’ll have to play along Athena, I’ll find a way to get that thing off your neck somehow, and then we can get out." He said, he got up and walked to the window, "I might not be a member of the family, or know this place, but I’m very sure that leaving would be at least three times more difficult." Aren said, then he turned and looked at Peter.

"We have to leave before the War God tournament ends, because when it does, the trials will start. I’ll be taken away and Athena will still be here." Kai explained.

His plan was pretty simple and if he managed to execute it properly, he would be able to escape, at least out of the town and into the forest.

There was also the possibility that the same thing they wrapped around Athena’s neck to stop her abilities would be the same thing that they would use on him if he showed any suspicious behavior, so he had to be clever with it and ensure that no one suspected him at all.

A few minutes later, June returned to the room, she walked in, looking at Aren and Peter. She felt something was off, but she couldn’t say for sure.

She locked eyes on Aren, and then spoke, "come with me." She said immediately.

Aren looked at her with confusion, but he could sense she wasn’t here to fight or anything. But Aren still decided to ask.

"What for?" Aren asked. She frowned, but still responded, "I’d like to see your strength, I’m curious after you fought a member of the family, he hasn’t returned, so I can only assume that you somehow defeated him.

I’d like to see the strength that allowed you to do that." She stated calmly.
