Chapter 41: New Guardian.

Sköll’s steps were firm.

She walked with energy, as if nothing could stop her.

However, her face reflected some annoyance; the truth is she was angry with Lloyd.

The reason was quite obvious: she had proposed to be his friend as a kind gesture, however, they had spat in her face.

It was humiliating, after having spoken so well of him and even proposing him as the chosen one.

Now he was receiving a lot of attention thanks to her and he hadn’t even thanked her.

But then, a thought crossed her mind.

Lloyd was lonely, someone who hadn’t had friends.

If someone as great as her proposed to be his friend, it was normal for him to get scared, right?

That was it.

Lloyd had simply been scared of how incredible she was and didn’t know what to do with her proposal.

An ear-to-ear smile formed on the girl’s face; her chest puffed up while she walked with pride.

"Oh, isn’t that Lloyd’s smell?" Sköll said while sniffing the air. "Great, I’ll ask him again, though I’ll try not to be so aggressive this time."

The girl went hopping toward the courtyard.

Lloyd had gone to the courtyard for breakfast, being followed by Alice.

In his mind, he was still reflecting on what had happened the previous night.

But he was also remembering what had occurred in the morning.

When Alice woke up she was still the same as always.

Or at least that’s what Lloyd thought at first.

However, unlike the day before, where Alice followed him because Lloyd had asked her to, now, she followed on her own initiative.

There was a change in her attitude, Lloyd could notice it.

Though she remained inexpressive.

Lloyd deduced that dream had greatly influenced her, which made the boy feel happy for having helped her.

The young man sat calmly on a stone bench in the courtyard, while observing the landscape.

It was a sunny morning, "summer" was approaching.

Lloyd knew that in this world there were only three seasons and years were cycles of these.

"Mmm?" Lloyd looked at Alice.

She seemed genuinely interested in his cookies.

He carried them on a tray; Lucia had prepared them that morning for breakfast.

"Do you want one?" Lloyd asked with a smile.

The girl nodded slowly.

Seeing that, Lloyd took one of the cookies and offered it to her.

The problem was that those cookies were poisoned.

Though, if Alice was really that "Alice," then she should have Aperion. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Such a poison wouldn’t be a match for the authority of absolute evolution.

Of course, the problem was that if she wasn’t the Alice from the novel, Lloyd would be putting her in danger.

It was best not to risk it.

"Oh..."

But it was too late. Alice had already taken a bite of the cookie he was holding.

Lloyd could notice a slight blush on the girl’s pale cheeks.

Maybe it was his imagination, but it seemed Alice had liked those.

The girl hadn’t taken the cookie, but was biting it directly from Lloyd’s hand.

It reminded Lloyd of a dog.

Alice ended up bringing her lips around the tips of the boy’s fingers, finishing the cookie.

"Next time, take the cookie with your hand... that was a bit unhygienic," the boy said. "Huh?"

Then he saw it: a golden flash, going straight at him.

It seemed Sköll hadn’t learned that attacking him wouldn’t be productive.

The beast-girl’s fist flew toward Lloyd’s jaw.

He was about to send her flying again using wind nature.

However, a small hand stopped Sköll.

"Huh?" Sköll and Lloyd said in unison.

Then, with a quick movement, Sköll’s arm was twisted and broken at the elbow section, to finish with a punch that dislocated her jaw and sent her flying.

Alice had just protected Lloyd.

What had happened?

When Sköll saw Lloyd with Alice she didn’t feel jealous, that would be ridiculous.

However, she did feel angry.

Lloyd had rejected her friendship, which she had attributed to Lloyd not having friends.

However, apparently Lloyd did have friends, which made her feel like a fool for worrying about him.

Those emotions made Sköll simply unable to contain herself, though she didn’t want to either, and decided to throw a punch at him.

Something she immediately regretted; now she felt unbearable pain, but barely had air in her lungs to scream.

"Alice, that’s enough," the boy said, while preventing her from continuing to hit Sköll.

The young man was still shocked by what he had seen.

Alice had shown incredible strength and speed, when in the training sessions she had had, she showed no ability.

Something had changed.

The girl obediently moved aside, and at that moment, Gueri arrived.

"What!" the beast-man rushed over to see what happened to Sköll, then looked at Lloyd. "D-don’t you think you went a bit overboard?"

"Hey, don’t look at me, it was Alice who defended me," Lloyd said, he also didn’t want to be seen as someone so brutal.

Gueri looked at Alice, a scrawny girl who didn’t seem to have too much strength, and then at Lloyd.

"If you say so," the man said nervously, trying to pretend he believed that statement.

Lloyd felt a vein bulge in his head; apparently Gueri didn’t believe him.

"Tch, well, whatever," Lloyd sighed while approaching Sköll. "Don’t move."

The boy extended his fingers, which pierced through his shadow, then pulled out a small flask from it.

The boy uncapped that elixir and poured it into Sköll’s mouth.

"Don’t spit it out even if it tastes horrible, it’s too valuable to be wasting," the boy said while moving away.

Soon an unpleasant crunch was heard as Sköll’s arm repaired itself.

The girl had been healed, though now she lay panting on the ground, too tired to do anything.

"Take her to her room to rest," Lloyd said, to turn around and start walking, followed by Alice.

Lloyd looked at the girl, she remained inexpressive, but had her head down.

Lloyd caressed her head.

"Don’t feel bad, you did it to protect me, just try to restrain yourself if it’s someone we know," he said understandingly.

Alice nodded.
