Chapter 39: Chapter 39: This Matter Is Very Simple

Lexi flipped over to sit astride Chen Yu, gazing at him intently.

She had first been drawn to Chen Yu for his politeness and gentlemanly nature. But she truly fell in love with him—enough to want to marry him—because of his integrity and resilience.

Despite his terrible family background, Chen Yu hadn’t let it drag him down. He had gotten this far on his own effort, saddled with hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans. It was something most people couldn’t have managed.

It was precisely this shared understanding of his struggle that made her fall for Chen Yu without a second thought.

"Don’t talk. Kiss me."

Lexi took a deep breath and pressed down on him again.

Her hands gripped Chen Yu’s back tightly. Amidst her ragged breaths, Lexi suddenly asked, "Chen, will you marry me?"

"Huh?"

Chen Yu stopped abruptly and gave Lexi an exasperated look.

’Seriously? You have to ask me that right now?’

"Would you even believe anything I say right now?"

"I would."

Lexi nodded.

Chen Yu fell silent for a moment, then resumed his charge.

Annoyed, Lexi bit him on the shoulder.

Just then, a voice sounded beside her ear.

"I will."

Lexi froze for a second as a wave of warmth washed over her.

A moment later, the race was over.

Lexi went to the fridge and grabbed two beers. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she thought for a moment before asking, "About Hill... is his ankle cartilage damage really that severe?"

She was a surgeon, but this wasn’t her area of expertise; she couldn’t match Chen Yu’s knowledge on the subject.

"How should I put this?" Chen Yu considered it for a moment. "It’s like a car’s brake line is frayed. You can never be sure if the brakes will fail the next time you step on the pedal."

Lexi understood immediately. She was speechless. "In that case, the Magic are being real assholes. Why not just let him rest? It’s only for two months, and almost a month has passed already. What’s the big deal?"

"Because they’re idiots," Chen Yu said with a dismissive purse of his lips. "It’s like in the hospital—there are always people who rely on wishful thinking. Add to that the pressure to win and sell tickets... and, of course, they probably hate being backed into a corner by a nobody like me."

"Ha! You’re no nobody now. The whole hospital knows you ran off to Orlando to become a ’fraud.’ Matthew even made a bet with me on whether you’d come crawling back to Miami with your tail between your legs," Lexi laughed.

Chen Yu gave a wry smile.

’Bad publicity is still publicity,’ he thought. ’Either way, I’m famous now.’

Lexi continued, "By the way, I saw on the news that you want to go on TV with this Billings guy for a public debate. Have you considered that he might refuse?"

"Of course I have," Chen Yu said, sitting up. "But whether he agrees or not is irrelevant. As long as I can get on TV and have a chance to tell the truth, that’s all that matters."

Lexi threw up her hands. "Well, doesn’t that solve the problem? You go on TV, you tell the truth. If the audience doesn’t believe you, find a witness. Didn’t you say the diagnosis was confirmed at the Mayo Clinic? If you have them come forward as witnesses, no one will doubt you, right?"

Chen Yu shook his head. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

’Telling the truth is easy.’

’When Gabriel decided to pull this stunt, he probably never imagined that a rookie doctor who just got his license, facing this media firestorm, would actually dare to step forward, give interviews, and even demand to go on television.’

"I want them fired," Chen Yu said.

Lexi stared at him, stunned. "Are you crazy? These are powerful people."

"Powerful people?"

Chen Yu chugged the rest of his beer. "So just because they’re powerful people, they think they can just shamelessly slander someone, discredit my diagnosis, and ruin my reputation?"

’From start to finish, what have I done wrong?’

’Hill was the one who came to me. I made the correct diagnosis. When they questioned me, I even used the full effect of my treatment to prove myself within twenty-four hours.’

’I thought that would be the end of it. I’d quietly treat Hill, collect my fee, and we’d go our separate ways.’

’Did I ever say a single bad word about you, Gabriel?’

’No, I didn’t.’

’And what happens? You pull this stunt, publicly slandering me.’

Chen Yu’s actions now were partly for Hill’s sake—he felt Hill was being wronged—and partly for his own, to fight the injustice against him.

’Do they really think I’m a pushover?!’

Lexi composed herself and said, "That won’t be easy, will it?"

Chen Yu nodded. "The key right now is Hill. His attitude is crucial."

Monty was right. A regular player like him had limited influence.

It had to be Hill. Only if he stood up and voiced his dissatisfaction with the management would Devos take notice.

Lexi asked about the situation, thought for a moment, and said, "This is actually very simple."

"Simple?"

Chen Yu was taken aback.

Lexi nodded. "Go to his wife! If I found out my husband was misdiagnosed by some quack, and then the team’s management tried to force him to play early... I’d buy a gun and personally take care of them myself!"

Lexi said, making a fist with her right hand, her voice full of menace.

Chen Yu’s eyes suddenly lit up. ’Of course! I can just go to Hill’s wife!’

’Knowing how easily influenced Hill is, he’s probably henpecked.’

"Lexi, you’re a lifesaver." Chen Yu pulled her into a hug and planted a big kiss on her cheek.

Lexi took the opportunity to relax against him, pressing her body down onto his.

"Rested enough?" she murmured.

Chen Yu, who had just been getting excited, froze. ’It’s been a while, sure, but can’t a guy catch a break?’

「That night, the Magic played the Bucks.」

Tracy McGrady sat on the sidelines, his face dark. He watched as the Bucks’ "Big Three," led by Ray Allen, combined for 71 points and cruised to an easy 19-point victory. He couldn’t help but glance over at Billings at the other end of the bench.

He had actually wanted to play today, but Billings had refused to clear him, saying there was something wrong with his shoulder.

’As if I wouldn’t know if there was a problem with my own shoulder!’

At that moment, McGrady’s mood was at rock bottom. He hadn’t left the Raptors on bad terms, leaving him in a cold war with his own cousin, just to come to the Magic and deliberately lose games.

As he stewed, he turned his head and glanced at Monty to his right, remembering what he had said during the pre-game warm-up.

Monty had come up and asked him a question.

He’d asked if McGrady was disappointed with the Magic’s front office.

McGrady hadn’t answered then, but now he wanted to. ’Yes, I’m disappointed. And not just a little disappointed.’

’Missing out on Duncan over the summer was one thing. But now, they were orchestrating these losses all because of the situation with Hill.’

’He’d heard plenty of stories about the Magic’s shady operations, but this was the first time he’d truly witnessed it firsthand.’

After the game, Billings, who usually kept a low profile and rarely gave interviews, was cornered by reporters.

"Joe, Chen has issued a public challenge to debate you on television. Will you accept?" the reporter asked, his expression that of someone who loved a good controversy.

They were all hoping Billings would say yes, setting the stage for a public showdown worthy of the *Morry Show*. A fistfight would be the perfect cherry on top.

Billings, who had already met with Gabriel, was clearly prepared. He sneered without a moment’s hesitation. "Who the hell does he think he is? He’s a fraud. What gives him the right to debate me?"

Pointing at the cameras, Billings said aggressively, "You can tell him this in no uncertain terms: I will not be going on television, because I’m not the one who’s wrong. Hill is fully recovered. This weekend, on the 2nd of next month, we’ll be conducting another internal examination of Hill to confirm his recovery. If everything checks out, he’ll be back on the court very soon."

With that, Billings turned and walked away, giving the reporters no opportunity for a follow-up.
