Chapter 151: Father Isn’t Wrong Either!

Author’s POV

"Just what the hell is going on over there?" one of the ladies muttered, taking a lazy sip of the champagne in her hand, her eyes fixed on the far corner of the room.

"I went over to listen," another said, leaning in like she was sharing a state secret, "but I couldn’t catch much. Looked like Old Lady Lan... she’s more interested in that cold beauty who walked in with Superstar Alistair than her own granddaughter."

"I heard a little bit!" someone else chimed in, her voice filled with excitement about the gossip. "They were talking about something... money?"

"Money?" The first lady arched a brow. She instantly got more interested. "Now I really want to know what’s going on."

They leaned in close, whispering like schoolkids who were talking about the hot scandal that had just broken out. But no matter how much they tried to listen, they couldn’t catch the full story. The Lancaster family was keeping their drama under wraps for now. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

On the other side of the room, the men had their own little circus going on. Every single one of them had already noticed the woman at Alistair’s side. The way she carried herself, the way she didn’t look at anyone for too long, like she couldn’t care less about the attention.

"Who is she?" one of them muttered to his friend. "His plus one? His Girlfriend? Or is his wife?"

"I saw no ring," another guy pointed out, his eyes never leaving her. "So, she’s fair game. We can woo her, right?"

"The game should be fair, then?" The first man smirked and added. "Buddy, she’s the kind of woman who’ll eat you alive before you even get her name."

They were already swooning over Seraphina, not even knowing her name. Every time she moved, their eyes followed like they couldn’t get enough of her.

She looked exactly as Alistair had wanted, untouchable, almost unreal. The soft lights caught on her skin, making her glow in a way that made it hard to look away.

The deep night-blue fabric wrapped around her like it had been made only for her. The color made her look even colder, sharper. She was like the kind of beauty you could see but never touch.

Melissa, on the other hand, had gone for a calmer kind of glamour. Her lavender gown hugged her in all the right places, and the silk showed off every curve, making her look elegant.

Her hair was done to perfection. Her makeup was soft but expensive-looking. She didn’t catch attention with her attractiveness but elegance,

If Seraphina was ice and moonlight, which one can only see but not touch, on the other hand, Melissa was warm dusk and velvet, looking approachable.

Melissa had worn exactly the style that Old Madam Lan liked. She made herself into someone she couldn’t even relate to.

She was trying to ignore everything that was happening around her. She didn’t want to get involved, no matter what took place tonight.

However, she was still feeling bitter because, till now, Asher had always accompanied her.

But today, he was nowhere to be seen. He hadn’t even called her, let alone walked to the party together.

She had thought Asher would come alone, or maybe with Seraphina, just to drive her insane. She had braced herself for that much and was ready to answer the questions of the high society, but then he...

But then he walked in with Emma!

Seriously? Emma! She was just a nobody. Yet the girl looked prettier than Melissa tonight. She looked so soft and glowing. Melissa’s jaw ached from how hard she was clenching it, but she forced herself not to keep her calm.. Emma wasn’t worth it... And soon, she’d show Emma her place.

And then Seraphina entered the party. She walked in on Alistair’s arm like she was the real heiress of the Lancaster mansion, as if everyone at the party had been waiting for her.

Just in a heartbeat, she had gathered all the attention toward herself. All the spotlight was on her... And Alistair was the cherry on top, walking beside her.

Seraphina didn’t even have to try; her presence was more than enough for everyone to turn around and look at her twice.

Melissa still smiled, plastering her face with innocence, but her nails dug so hard into her palm she nearly drew blood. She couldn’t ruin her image in front of Old Lady Lan. She needed the old woman’s approval to seal her place as the Lancaster heir.

But if she didn’t approve of her... then Melissa already had a different plan. She wasn’t about to let her life, her wealth, her future be stolen by a girl who barely knew how to stand in heels.

She was barely holding herself together when Seraphina opened her mouth with all that pocket money talk. Melissa’s lips twitched, aching to roll her eyes right there in front of everyone.

Pocket money? Really?

Why the hell would a beggar like Seraphina even need money for? Wasn’t it enough that she’d been given a roof over her head, a family name to hide under, and a place to call home? And now she was crying over allowance? After already taking properties that should have been hers, without lifting a single finger?

Melissa’s blood boiled, but she smoothed her face. She even tilted her head, as though she had been wronged.

"I’m really sorry," Melissa said in a soft tone. "I didn’t know you were given so little." She paused just a little for everyone to hear. "But... Father wasn’t wrong either."

Her words dropped as if she were adding fire to the fuel

Seraphina’s jaw clenched as Melissa joined the game. "What does that mean?" She asked bitterly, no longer trying to hide her anger.

Melissa only shrugged as if she was stating something obvious. And the way she looked at Seraphina... It seemed as if she was trying to provoke Seraphina into something.
