Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 73—Duel Arena
Having made that decision, Cole immediately began to work on enacting it.
Bryan had already fallen asleep long ago, and the night had grown much darker.
To prevent any suspicion or for whatever reason known to just himself. Cole decided to sneak out of the room.
He began taking slow and light steps towards the entrance while regularly looking back at Bryan.
After a long while of unnecessary sneaking, Cole arrived at the door.
He attempted to open the door as quietly as he could, but the door seemed to have other plans.
Screech!
The door creaked loudly while Cole opened it.
Cole’s heart suddenly skipped a beat as he slowly turned around to check on Bryan.
Thankfully Bryan hadn’t woken up at all from all of that; he was still sleeping soundly.
"Thank Heavens," Cole said while he sneaked away.
Remembering the route they had previously taken, Cole went back towards the Arena.
His journey to the arena made him remember not so long ago when he was heading towards an arena in the slums.
"It was on a night just like this."
As Cole got closer to the location of the Duel Arena, his experience this time was much different from the last time.
The last time, he could only smell the scent of blood-filled sand on the ground, but now he couldn’t smell such things.
The only thing that filled the air was the loud chants of the students in the arena.
The closer we got to the arena, the louder the chants got.
"This is gonna be fun," he said when he got close enough.
Upon arriving at the entrance to the arena, Cole didn’t even think of sneaking in.
He proceeded to the attendant standing by the entrance to inquire about the admissions requirements.
"Ten academic points only," the woman said uncaringly.
Cole was quite shocked by the price. He hadn’t expected it to be so expensive.
"He wanted to turn around and leave despite having so many Academic points now."
His miserly ways from the slums still stick to him unintentionally.
"I have no choice," Cole said while shaking his head.
Reluctantly, he scanned his watch and paid the admission fee.
The woman didn’t bother with Cole anymore from that moment on; she just looked away.
Cole didn’t waste any more time at the entrance; he proceeded directly into the arena.
"Woooohhhhhh" Cole was immediately hit with a wave of noise.
It was so loud the sound felt tangible.
"This is really crazy," Cole thought.
He didn’t wait any more time as he decided to find somewhere to eat.
After a period of a long strenuous search, Cole found a place to sit.
The location he found was high in the arena, giving him a full view of the events going on down below.
In the ring down below, two students were currently in the heat of battle.
Might be for the sake of attention or showing off to excite the fans, the two students had their Innate Spirits out in full display.
One of them had a golden chain Innate spirit. It floated with a domineering golden aura, sticking with the student all through his movement.
His opponent, on the other hand, had a beast Innate spirit. It looked like a weird chimera between a bird and a cat.
It was standing in a cat pose while being covered in bird feathers, adding to its mysteriousness.
"I wonder what abilities they grant," Cole thought.
The one, the chimera Innate spirit, manifested wings of feathers from his back, allowing him to fly in the air.
His nails also morphed into a weird combination of claws and talons that glinted in the light.
He had the aerial advantage, maneuvering weirdly all through the air.
He moved all around, but he kept his distance, just like he was scared of something.
"Boooooooooo," The crowd suddenly shouted out as they watched his cowardliness.
Triggered by the crowd’s reaction, the Student decided to take the bold step.
He activated his speed to the limit and dove straight at his opponent.
"Yeahhhh, now you are talking," Cole heard someone scream from beside him.
The student in the ring couldn’t cheer anymore, though. His hot-headed decision had cost him more than he thought.
He was now stuck in the same lair, completely unable to move.
All around were Golden chains that had tightly held him in place.
"You can’t go through my sealing chain," The student with the chain said smugly while approaching the other.
"Mardine! Mardine! Mardine!"
The excited crowd chanted.
"Mardine? Is he related to Sylvester?" Cole thought.
"Then that sudden stoppage, can it be due to these chains, and I did see some golden light," Cole analyzed.
"So he has a brother here. Now that makes things much more complicated."
Cole continued to watch the battle, which seemed to be coming to an end soon.
The one called Mardine took a step at a time and approached his helpless opponent.
When he got into striking range, he didn’t hesitate and sent a punch flying heavily at his opponent.
Bam!
The punch hit the feathered one cleanly on the head, knocking him unconscious immediately.
Ding Ding ding!
"Mardine Winss"
And this would be his 34th victory in the Arena, placing him directly at the 105th position in the academy ranking.
"Wooooooooooh!" The crowd was suddenly riled up as everyone screamed at the top of their voices.
"105 isn’t that too low," Cole unknowingly spoke out.
"Tsk, ignorant freshman," Cole heard from behind him.
He turned to check who it was, and he was shocked to find the student wearing a third-year uniform.
"Do you mind exploiting seniors?" Cole asked in a naive voice.
"There’s nothing to expiate; the arena Ranking spans all across the whole academy."
"Do you know the number of students in the Academy?"
"Ranking in the top 200 is enough to be considered great."
"Now stop pestering me; the big fight is about to begin."
Cole felt quite amazed by the words.
"Big fight, I wonder who it is,"
