Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 63— Danger
Cole looked towards the nurse, waiting for her further words, but she just stared at him with a stern face.
"When Spiriters advance, they get a new ability," She said.
"I don’t know if you know this, but the body has pathways for the passage of Life energy and every ability has a pathway."
"The pathways are etched deep in the body and are innate," she said.
Cole listened with a slightly amazed expression. Whenever he used the Eyes of Scrutiny to try to understand an ability.
He always sees Life energy flow in a specific manner across the body, so he had an idea, a tough idea, but now things were clearer.
"Whenever a spirit advances, to accommodate new abilities, the body creates new passages."
"Do you know now?" She said,
"To get new abilities, the body passages needs to be destroyed and reconstructed,"
"Therefore, if the body is too destroyed or has insufficiencies like mine did, then in the process of destruction it completely breaks down," Cole replied
"Exactly, but your trashy talent saved you."
"If you had awakened a new ability at that moment, you would have died."
Cole felt a little bit of gratitude and also pain as he thought back to an experience he had not too long ago.
"Talent, hmmmm,"
A shift then occurred in the nurse’s eyes; her expression changing from annoyance to pity.
"Life must be hard for you, having a 1-star Innate Spirit," she said.
"You need to work almost twice as hard to get the same results as others. I understand, but you need to be careful with your body."
"From your injuries, I can tell that you have gone through a lot in a very short while, and that’s probably why you advanced so quickly." She continued.
Cole’s head drooped low as he listened to the words, the nurses’ words; they felt like nails hitting him directly on the heart.
Every word she said resonated deeply with him, resulting in tears pooling up in his eyes. Strong, but he stood strong; he quickly wiped them away and looked up at the nurse.
"My talent might not appear too good, but I am not letting the future decide my future."
"Little by little, one at a time, I shall surpass every privileged person with just my effort," Cole said.
"They might be born on a pedestal and me born underground, but I will claw my way to them." He concluded with a burning gaze.
The nurse looked at his face with a serious face; his words deeply resonated with her, and she felt really motivated by him.
"You will be going places, kid," She said with a smile.
Before Cole could respond to her words or say anything at all.
"What a very nice atmosphere this is," he heard.
Both Cole and the nurse were alerted. They hurriedly looked to their sides and seated not too far away was the familiar fourth elder.
The old man wore a satisfied smile on his face as he looked back at Cole.
The nurse breathed a sigh of relief after knowing who it was, and Cole, on the other hand, didn’t relax.
He looked at the elder with a slightly annoyed expression as he thought of the nurse’s words.
"So you guys wanted to kill me without doing it yourselves," Cole said.
He had always been wondering why Breakthrough wanted him to break Thursday within the next seven days, but he couldn’t find a response. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
But now he understood it clearly.
They wanted him to attempt to advance when his injuries weren’t fully healed so his body could break down and he would die.
Cole felt extremely disillusioned with the council of elders; he expected them to be a group of wise men who were true and just.
But now it seems they were the exact opposite.
The fourth elder looked at Cole while still maintaining his smile.
"Relax kid; nobody wanted you dead; it was just a test," he said.
He didn’t buy any of that, though; he refused to believe any of the man’s words.
Dark Energy is powerful, men are extremely powerful, and they require extreme willpower to overcome.
"And it is possible to prevent death when advancing if your willpower is high enough to keep your body together,"
"So the willpower is only to test your willpower."
Though the man’s words sounded extremely logical, Cole still found it hard to accept them.
He had trusted them, and he didn’t expect them to gamble with his life that way.
"And now that your willpower has been confirmed to be strong enough to withstand it for now."
"You are free to act as you like for now," The fourth elder said.
Cole didn’t know if he should be happy upon hearing all of those words or sad.
They hadn’t tested his willpower at all because he hadn’t awakened a new ability.
He wanted to do the same thing as the elder, but he decided to keep that to himself.
He already had a way to keep the dark energy in check so he actually didn’t need willpower.
And even without the test, Cole was quite confident he had good enough willpower.
He had been able to go through some hazardous ups and downs without giving up, so he had confidence in himself.
Realizing there wasn’t really anything he could do to the old men, he could only keep his mouth shut and accept the elders’ words.
"You wouldn’t have even gotten the chance to get tested if you hadn’t performed well on the placement test."
"We elders were quite amazed by your performance despite being a 1-star chance." decided to give you a thankful
"So be very thankful; usually you would have lost your life by now."
His softened expression finally softened; he knew there was nothing men could do against the old men, and they actually gave him a chance, so he could only accept it.
If he had been directly killed without a chance to prove himself, he couldn’t have done anything, so the elders giving him a chance was a privilege.
"Now that we have got that out of the way, Come with me," the elder said before appearing behind Cole"
"Uhhh, where are we going?" Cole said while his consciousness gradually faded.
