Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 43—Losing Control
The sword strike approached hot, carrying indomitable force like it previously did with the red-headed student.
Unlike the previous student, Cole didn’t underestimate the attack at all.
He knew for sure that Linda was one of the top students and judging by her attire and her countenance she was certainly strong.
Cole judged the strength of the approaching attack and determined the perfect amount of force needed to counter it.
Having made his decision. Cole activated his Flaming fist and got into his almost perfect stance.
The continuous battle had helped Cole sharpen his basic stances even further, making them become completely natural for him now.
The moment the attack got to the perfect distance away, Cole rushed forward and sent a punch towards a specific point in the attack.
Flame hit flame and Cole unexpectedly won. He had directed his own attack to what he guessed to be the weak point of that attack.
He wasn’t left unscathed, though, his knuckles tinged slightly with signs of burns appearing on them.
Even his clothes were smoking slightly, a real display of how hot those flames actually were.
"What, how?" Linda asked with a shocked expression.
Cole responded with a smile this time, feeling a little of his dignity returning.
He had always disliked the fact that Linda always refers to him as a peasant, but he hadn’t found the chance do anything about it.
Now that he got the chance, he will try his best to show her what he can actually do.
Cole knew he was only able to destroy that attack by a fluke, but he still claimed ownership over the success.
Linda got even more frustrated seeing Cole’s smug face and immediately sent two more sword slashes directly at him.
This time Cole couldn’t even think of destroying them. The attacks were of higher magnitude, and the temperature was even hotter.
His face grew serious as he reacted sharply, dodging the attacks as best as he could.
"Hahaha, hotter, right? My first two abilities, Flaming slash and Heat manipulation works so well together," Linda said when she noticed Cole’s serious expression.
From her words, Cole grasps a whole lot more information.
"First two, that means she has more. Then she must be at least a three-star."
"Such a naive girl, exposing her cards so fast," Cole mocked.
He didn’t wait for another attack this time; instead, he took the initiative and dashed towards Linda.
Linda wasn’t shocked by his approach; coming from a very strong family, she had been trained since she was a child.
"His only ability must be that flaming fist since he is a 1-star; I just need to prevent him from getting any closer," She analyzed.
After making her analysis, she jumped backwards to widen the gap between them.
While still in the air, she sent more fiery sword attacks at Cole.
Cole struggled but still managed to dodge them all with surprising precision.
He had decided not to use the Eye of Scrutiny in this battle, since it was draining and the consequences outweighed the gain.
Cole knew what Linda was planning from her actions, but he just smiled.
"Too naive," he thought.
He suddenly increased his speed to the max and caught Linda by surprise.
He arrived in front of her the moment she landed proceeding to send a sweeping kick using one of his stances.
Linda wasn’t too slow to respond and jumped off her feet to dodge the attack.
Cole wasted no time and followed the attack up with a flaming punch aimed directly at the gut.
The punch tore through the air sharply, heating up that air while approaching Linda.
Bam!
The punch landed swiftly but the reaction Cole got wasn’t what he was expecting.
Linda only received damage from the actual punch, which was minimal, and received no damage from the attributed flames at all.
"Most Flames have no effect on me; only a few can hurt me with flames." She said smugly.
While saying those words, someone’s name flashed across her mind.
"Probably only Cain."
Seeing his attack fail, Cole hurriedly retreated and created more gap between them.
"I really need to win this battle; this spoiled brat can’t keep looking down on me like that," Cole thought.
"Since flames won’t be working, then I will be using the other thing then."
This would be Cole’s first attempt at actually using this ability in battle, so he was slightly skeptical about the result, but he still decided to try it out.
Since he wasn’t too used to actually using the ability, it would actually take him a while before he could activate it.
That slight delay was all Linda needed; she smiled sheepishly and sent a final devastating attack at Cole.
This attack was almost twice as powerful as all of her previous attacks, directly burning away all plants in its path.
Cole saw the approaching attack and felt a huge sense of urgency, but the prepared ability was finally ready to be used.
Cole sidestepped first, to prevent himself from running straight into the attack before finally activating it.
Kinetic Acceleration pushed Cole to the limit of force his utilized Life energy could provide, sending him bolting straight at Linda.
Linda was shocked by the sudden increase in speed, so she was unable to react in time.
In the blink of an eye, Cole appeared in front of her and sent a punch flying straight towards her using his garnered momentum.
A small shockwave accompanied the attack as it approached Linda’s head with world crushing force.
The presence of the shockwave made Cole realize something at that moment.
"This might be too much," He hurriedly thought.
He tried his best to reduce the impact or even completely stop the attack, but he couldn’t.
He had realized too late. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The force of a full attack from a Peak-stage Dormant level was normally extremely negligible but combined with the momentum generated by the ability.
It became something even Awakened Level spiriters would be wary of.
Linda watched the attack approach her
head with deep fear.
She could feel the force behind the attack even without it touching her yet.
So she knew how much damage it would cause to her.
A thought dominated Cole’s mind at the moment as he stared straight at Linda.
"Will I be killing someone accidentally?"
