Spiral of Madness: Ascension of the Villainous Dragon Prince-Chapter 149: I Will Save You [2] — Confronting The Grievance
"So this explains why Mirai is so strong," Pekorine said. "We once faced such a powerful foe alongside Tisha and everyone else who followed the Dragon King back then... It was perhaps the most arduous battle we ever fought, aside from when the Chaotic Vortex created by the Evil Fairy King Oberon threatened to destroy Yggdrasil. At that time, the Dragon King led a battle against dozens of Venerables and the tyrant from Zipangu who had invaded Yggdrasil—Oda Nobunaga, vessel of the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, Hajun."
"It was one of the Great Wars in Yggdrasil, the last one before the period of peace that has lasted until now, right?" Catrise asked. "I wasn’t even born in those times... Just thinking about how it must have been makes me admire you even more, seniors."
"Definitely. When you compare what’s happening now to that war," Tisha sighed, shaking her head, "this feels like a walk in the park! So let’s do it!"
Having overheard Helena’s explanation, Mirai finally learned more about herself and the source of her immense power. "So I am the reincarnation of those two beings... Are they the entities that appeared in my Fantasy Heart and my dreams? Somehow... it feels like they aren’t hostile toward me."
She remembered how they had looked at her with concern and warmth. Even though they appeared as intimidating evil gods, it felt as though they wanted to protect her at all costs.
Was she truly their reincarnation? And if so, wouldn’t they be gone? It almost felt more like... she was something akin to their daughter.
"Are they my parents?"
As she wondered, Mirai shook her head, forcing the doubts from her mind. She knew her parents—the Japanese couple who died when she was born—could never raise her.
Those were her parents. Whatever those beings were, they were irrelevant right now.
Especially when the Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin fixed its gaze on them. Hundreds of giant, sharp dark-wood branches and roots stretched toward her.
Countless eyes opened across those branches—eerily similar to Louis’ eyes, even with long white eyelashes. Mouths with lips resembling his opened as well, revealing sharp jaws.
These mouths constantly spat out large creatures—twisted, aberrant forms shaped like Louis, with long white hair, glowing red eyes, and slender twig-like limbs ending in long metallic claws.
"Kill..."
"Kill... Kill...!"
"Kill...! KILL!"
"KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL!"
They muttered "kill" repeatedly as they flew toward Mirai and her group. She swiftly expanded her Aura to shield them but quickly noticed it made everyone feel nauseous and unwell, so she pulled it back. "I-I’m sorry!"
"It’s fine—don’t worry about us. We’ll follow you! Open the way!" Tisha said.
"Your power is too dangerous, Mirai. You cannot protect people with it," Helena said. "Use it to destroy everything instead!"
"Okay!"
Mirai did not hesitate. As the monstrous twisted versions of Louis attacked, she charged her entire body with Chaos and Demonic Power until she glowed like an abyssal crimson star.
"HAAAAAHH!"
She unleashed all her power in a devastating shockwave. The entities that drew near burned and exploded, vanishing by the dozens every second.
"Come on!"
She called to everyone behind her as they charged forward together. Tisha swung Niflheim, slashing and freezing anything Mirai overlooked. Pekorine used her magic to shield the group with Spirit Barriers, buffs, and healing. Helena employed Telekinesis to lift everyone off the ground and protect them with small Spatial Barriers. Catrise fought with her Soul Weapon hammer, channeling the crest of Benladra and unleashing accumulated holy power. Her Aura transformed into a giant holy dragon that enveloped the group, boosting their stats and granting Holy Element affinity—allowing them to dispatch the entities with ease, since the creatures were weak against it.
As for the branches and roots of the Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin, they smashed toward Mirai constantly. She resisted with her bare body and Aura, clashing against them head-on. Each branch or root was the size of a skyscraper, yet Mirai roared and swung her fists, shattering them into fragments. As she fought and was pushed back, she began to master her powers—turning Demonic Souls and Chaos Spirits into weapons, unleashing storms of sharp swords and spears that destroyed branches and roots from a distance.
But sometimes, when the roots gathered and unleashed magic through their countless eyes, Mirai had to improvise. She compressed her power and began shaping her own Fantasium Aura, expanding it into a form of Esper Spiritualization—even though she was technically not an Esper. This Spiritualized Aura gradually took the shape of her own Soul Form: gigantic, with multiple arms and heads.
Using her Spiritualized Aura, Mirai swung enormous demonic palms forward. Nirvana Flames spread across the branches and reached the rest of the trunk. She did not stop, constantly conjuring Chaos Pandemonium Spells to bombard the entire trunk with explosions comparable to nuclear warheads in power and range.
BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!
The Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin trembled violently. Pieces fell to the ground while it burned. Its five heads, which had expanded their influence and created a Fantasy Field across the capital, reacted at last. They reached toward Mirai and her team as they assaulted the main body.
"Insects!"
"Maggots!"
"Stop this!"
"Die incinerated!"
"Perish!"
The gigantic dragon heads opened their jaws and fired five beams of powerful corrupt Nirvana Flames. Mirai, seeing the attack coming, panicked. She rushed in front of her group and decided to tank all five hits at once.
"Mirai, what are you doing?!" Helena shouted.
"What I have to do...!" Mirai clenched her teeth. Nirvana Flames surged from her body—awakened during her battle against The Gardener alongside Louis and Priest Soma. She shaped these flames into giant palms and pushed them against all five beams simultaneously.
RUMBLE!
"Nnnggh...!"
Mirai began bleeding from her eyes and nose as she pushed harder. Her flames intensified, absorbing her Chaos and Demon Elements and coming alive—resembling countless roaring, laughing demons and chaos spirits.
