Special Forces Medic-Chapter 764 - 731: Useless Things
"If we don't stop the fight, how long are we going to wait? I think even if they fight until midnight, they might not stop," Shi Shuai lamented. He wished he had the same strength as the two of them. The image of Xiao Lin inserting his bare hand into the enemy's throat and ripping off their head flashed in his mind. It was a scene he dared not speak of and could only ponder over slowly. As for what he was pondering, he didn't really know.
"I'm going down first, don't follow me!" Xu Ming opened the car door and slowly approached the two still fighting. He didn't have the skills to separate them and could only stand at a distance in front of them. The salty, damp sea breeze left a greasy feeling all over him.
Shi Shuai thought Xu Ming would try to mediate, but he was wrong. Xu Ming just found a corner where he wouldn't be caught up in the fighting, squatted down, and slowly moved closer to the corpse lying on the side. His timid posture made Shi Shuai want to sneer at him.
Xu Ming unzipped the body bag. Although the head was already exposed, the grotesque swelling made him not want to look any further. It's said that corpses from traffic accidents or suicides are disgusting, but those soaked in water are even worse. Best not to touch them because you might accidentally scrape off a layer of meat with your fingernail, as it would rot.
You can't even tell who it is! Xu Ming squatted on the ground, feeling the gusts of wind sweeping over him from above or from the side. He knew he was bound to be caught in it sooner or later. Just as he was about to move away from the corpse, a small detail caught his attention.
An irregular material protruded from the corpse's clothing, and he wanted to pull it out. The saturated flesh made the clothing adhere tightly, like it was about to squeeze the meat off, making it difficult to pull without tearing apart the soaked flesh.
"Come and look at this!" Xu Ming had no choice but to shout to catch the attention of the two nearby.
Xiao Lin glanced at Hua Qingyi. "Is it enough?" he asked coldly, not taking Hua Qingyi's initial provocation seriously.
"Hmm!" It's been a while since he exercised so vigorously, and sweat was streaming down his body.
"If it's enough, then stop." Xiao Lin took half a step back, retreating from the attack circle, and naturally, Hua Qingyi did not pursue. "Don't take such risks next time. If you get hurt, I won't take responsibility."
"I've improved somewhat too," Hua Qingyi retorted, feeling unwilling, as the two walked to Xu Ming's side.
"Director Xu, have you found something?" Xiao Lin squatted down as if nothing had happened. A faint scent of perfume wafted from him.
"Oh, I don't know if it's a discovery." Xu Ming shifted a bit and pointed at a spot on the clothing material. "This doesn't look like fabric."
Xiao Lin leaned in for a closer look. Indeed, there was a corner peeking out that was similar in color to the clothing, blending perfectly with the overall look. He had overlooked it.
"It should be a card or something else. Do you have a knife or any sharp object?" Xiao Lin pinched the protruding corner, and from the touch, it seemed to be paper.
"I'll go to the car to get one."
"Forget it!" Xiao Lin pinched the now pulp-like tip, giving it a determined tug to pull most of it out.
"What's this?" Hua Qingyi came over too.
The top part was already soaked, exposing the pulp fibers and essentially rendering it useless. Even if there was something on it, the water had washed away any traces.
"It's useless!" Xiao Lin threw the pulp aside. "Find someone to handle this," He didn't intend to dwell further on who should deal with the corpse. Xiao Lin's concession didn't sit well with Hua Qingyi. After calming down, his earlier impulsiveness left him feeling remorseful; his rashness had caused Xiao Lin even more distress.
"Lin!" He called out, facing Xiao Lin's back.
"I'll head back to the hotel first. If there's anything, come find me there." Sitting back in his QQ car, Xiao Lin exhaled deeply and closed his eyes. The memories he wished to forget always crept back in unexpectedly. Hua Qingyi's provocation, though well-intentioned, inadvertently touched his vulnerable spot. There were too many things he had no time to seek answers for now; he just wanted to end everything here quickly and find the result he needed.
"Director Hua, is the boss alright?" Xu Ming looked at the departing car with concern and turned to ask Hua Qingyi.
"He's fine. Did he ask you to come?"
"Hmm!"
"Then leave two people here to wait for the city bureau to come and take the body, and the rest of the team should head back!" After giving his instructions, Hua Qingyi headed towards the Maritime Bureau. After all, he should greet the people who were still there and not let them work for nothing, even if it was their duty.
"Director Hua, we've just discovered a new situation and want to discuss it with you and the boss. We can't handle it."
"Okay, follow Lin back to the hotel. I'll be back with you after I've gone to the Maritime Bureau." Hua Qingyi suddenly called out to Xu Ming. "Is it something important?" He suddenly felt that he didn't want anyone to disturb Xiao Lin today.
Xu Ming didn't immediately respond but nodded. "Alright then!"
Hua Qingyi arrived at the hotel an hour and a half later. The owner was still lying on his counter. A wave of guests had left over the weekend, so there wasn't much for him to be busy with. Unless someone needed accommodation, he had little concern for who was coming or going, nor did he worry about anyone running away. As Hua Qingyi passed by the counter, he tapped the clock to wake the dozing owner.
"Oh, it's you!" Recognizing Hua Qingyi, the hotel owner was especially pleased; long-term guests like him were rare. "Just got back, or are you heading out?"
"Just got back, give me a bottle and two plates of beef, one pack of peanuts." Feeling a bit hungry, about the only things to eat here are beef and peanuts.
"Alright, I'll bring it up for you!"
"No need, I'll take it up myself." Hua Qingyi chuckled twice at the guesthouse owner. Whether they had a mutual understanding or deliberately avoided speaking, he waited for the food container to be prepared. Hua Qingyi paid for the drinks, grabbed a few pairs of chopsticks and glasses, and headed upstairs.
Xiao Lin was still scrutinizing the photos on his phone. He had already heard the general situation from Xu Ming, and the fact that Master Shuai insisted he hadn't misjudged made it all the more puzzling.
"I'm back!" Hua Qingyi kicked the door with his foot and shouted from outside; his hands were full.
"Agent Hua!"
"Do me a favor and clear the table." With a flurry of activity, the commotion subsided as the door closed. "Any new developments?"
"Director Xu suspects there are two Secretary Lis!"
"Two?" Hua Qingyi, indeed feeling a bit famished, arranged the food and began eating on his own.
"This morning, Master Shuai saw a hostess and Secretary Li enter a hotel on Xiangyang Street, while at the same time, Wang Xi saw Yao Zheng and Secretary Li appear at the entrance of the government building, seemingly accompanied by Xia Xue." Xiao Lin succinctly recounted the events; it wasn't a coincidence.
"Does Master Shuai have evidence, and how is Wang Xi collecting evidence on his side?"
"I'll verify things with Xia Xue myself."
"Now?"
"No, later!" Xiao Lin didn't plan to set off just yet. If this result was correct, there must be someone from Uncle Four around Yao Zheng, and this Secretary Li could very well be one of them. The disguise technique, lost for thousands of years, unexpectedly had a practitioner around Uncle Four.
"Director Xu, you've been a highway patrol officer for many years. Did you happen to notice a blue business vehicle, with a four-digit license plate from out of town?"
"A four-digit license plate?" With such a distinctive feature, he wouldn't forget it. Xu Ming shook his head. "No, but I can ask someone to check the entry and exit records."
"I'd appreciate it."
"Director Xu, have you inquired about any insider information at the 'Phoenix Tail'?" Hua Qingyi, after finishing eating, opened the wine bottle. Wouldn't asking that girl whether there are two Secretary Lis solve it?
"I initially intended to do so, but I feared alerting them, so I only spoke to the 'Phoenix Tail' manager, Ling."
"What did she say?"
"Nothing to disclose, but it is definite Liaison Li frequents her place for entertainment, and Ye Zi is his preferred type. However, as for whether there are two Li's, Ling flatly refused to comment."
"Anything new from Ji Weihua's side?" Xiao Lin turned to ask Master Shuai. "Does he have any reaction to the people we sent?"
"As per the boss's instructions, it seems he didn't react much; just accepted the people. However, judging by others' reactions, people from the North District Police Station seem very afraid of him, reluctant to mention Ji Weihua loudly. And there's someone else I find suspicious!"
"Who?"
"A guy with black-framed glasses, named Brother Guang. He seems quite odd." Master Shuai was trying hard to pinpoint what made him suspicious but found nothing specific to illustrate.
"Is he the guy who looks rather wooden?" Xiao Lin knew who Master Shuai was referring to; this person indeed had an unforgettable side.
"Probably him!"
"With the evidence we have, proving Yan Juanjuan's involvement isn't an issue. Most of those whose homes were forcibly demolished are willing to sign the charges. Now, the only evidence linking Yao Zheng to the crime is Guo Guo's testimony, but we lack physical evidence." Xiao Lin was pressed for time, given Wu Shuang's health was deteriorating day by day. He had to pry the whereabouts of Uncle Four from Yao Zheng's lips.
"Leave the evidence collection to me. I can take care of the rest myself." Hua Qingyi noted Xiao Lin's urgency. "You do your part."
"Now isn't the time yet, the crisis has just begun. We must find the car parked at the North Palace entrance." (To be continued. If you like this work, we welcome your support by voting recommendation tickets and monthly votes on Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
