Special Forces Medic-Chapter 754 - 721: Men Are Selfish
"Why are you here?" Yao Zheng grabbed Yan Juanjuan's arm and dragged her to the entrance of the deserted emergency exit.
"Why, afraid I'll bring trouble to your good deeds?" Yan Juanjuan shook off Yao Zheng's hand and leaned against the wall. She had clearly seen the woman just now, and Yao Zheng's flirtation made her furious.
"Speak, what do you want from me?" Yao Zheng avoided her question and turned his back on her, full of disdain.
"Do you have to be so ruthless?" Yan Juanjuan looked at the man she had loved for over ten years, the bitterness in her heart deepening.
"I warned you." Hearing the sorrow in Yan Juanjuan's voice, he softened slightly. "I'll try to get things sorted for you, help you reduce the time, I can at least do that much."
"You want me to take the fall for you?" Yan Juanjuan knew she had no hope left. This man was determined for her to take the blame. Hengfei Mansion alone would be enough to keep her in for a long time, let alone Beigong. Now that it hadn't touched on banned drugs, there was simply no hope of getting out.
"I'll take care of our son, don't worry about that. They only know about the land purchase issue back then, the most they might find is financial tax issues. If we pay what's due, the punishment can be lessened. So I calculated you wouldn't need to stay inside for long." Yao Zheng turned around, placing his hands on Yan Juanjuan's shoulders. "As for the murder suspicions, I'll find someone to stand in for you, don't worry about that."
"Yao Zheng, are you even human?" Yan Juanjuan shouted.
What is despair if not total disappointment borne out of hopelessness? Yao Zheng was a selfish person; Yan Juanjuan had known from the beginning. She thought he might have some regard for the years of their marriage, for having a son together, but she hadn't expected he'd be willing to betray her without restraint.
"Yan Juanjuan, this is a government building, not your Hengfei Mansion, be careful with your words." Yao Zheng glanced outside. Fortunately, they were far enough from the lobby that no one would overhear.
"You're scared? I'm not. Did you have Ji Weihua send the materials over? You planned this from the start, didn't you?"
Yan Juanjuan took a deep breath. Today was the deadline she agreed with Hua Qingyi. She hadn't dared open the case file left on the desk, afraid that she might break down at that moment.
"What materials?" Yao Zheng stared blankly at Yan Juanjuan.
"Well, you're quite the actor." Yan Juanjuan dried her tears, sneering. "Yao Zheng, I haven't killed anyone, you know that very well."
"Having a motive is enough." With his understanding of Yan Juanjuan, Yao Zheng no longer bothered with pleasantries. Her tone already showed she had plans. "Juanjuan, it's a crisis now. At least one person should stay out to help. If both of us go down, then who's left to rely on? I'm only trying to have you go in with the lightest charge possible. As soon as the city committee leaves, I can use connections to get you out. But if you insist on burning bridges, then there's nothing I, Yao Zheng, can do."
"Yao Zheng, you're underestimating your opponent." Yan Juanjuan pushed Yao Zheng aside and walked out from the emergency exit door. It was enough; she had nothing more to say to this person.
"Yan Juanjuan!" Yao Zheng seemed to realize something was wrong and yanked her back. "What do you mean by this?"
"Yao Zheng, I can forgive you for anything, but not for messing with my sister. I will never forgive you for that." Yan Juanjuan took a deep breath, the sourness in her nose overwhelming.
"What do you want to do? Yan Juanjuan, don't act recklessly. After you're out, at least you still have our son."
"Son! Yao Zheng, you're not a human, that's your own son." Yan Juanjuan widened her eyes, pointing to Yao Zheng's heart. "If you dare touch my son, I'll make you understand what regret truly means."
"I'll arrange for you to go to Italy today, how about that?" Yao Zheng stared at Yan Juanjuan. The fury in her eyes could make her do anything. He glanced outside. "I'll arrange for you to leave Yanjing tonight. Get everything ready; I'll send someone to pick you up."
"Your calculations are perfect, pin a fleeing charge on me so I can't come back for life, and then you can openly take over Hengfei, is that it?"
"Can't you stop thinking of me as so vile? We've been married for decades, don't you know how I treat you?
I'm a bit selfish, but I've genuinely cared for you. We have a son, and you'll be protected in Italy. They won't come there to get you; everything I'm doing is for your own good. You intended to immigrate there anyway, didn't you?" Seeing Yan Juanjuan fall silent, Yao Zheng pulled her into his arms. "Go back and pack now; no need to wait until tonight. I'll have Secretary Li personally handle it. Keep your luggage simple, I have work to do. I'll head upstairs, you follow my arrangements."
Releasing Yan Juanjuan, Yao Zheng walked out first on his own; Xia Xue was still waiting upstairs, and he had already wasted a lot of time on Yan Juanjuan.
Watching the man's retreating figure, Yan Juanjuan leaned heavily against the wall. She could no longer think, no longer discern right from wrong. Even at the end, she was thinking for him, but he had entirely abandoned her.
She shouldn't have believed him; he really was not someone to trust. Yet, even at the end, the illusion he created for her was still so beautiful. Her son, her son was his last trump card.
Yao Zheng resentfully slammed his fist against the elevator door, away from the camera's blind spot, standing there taking deep breaths, trying to control his turbulent emotions.
Women all seem weak, whether fierce or not, are all frail beings. However, it's all a façade. The truth told him never to offend a woman, for they know how to retaliate. Never expose anything to a woman, for they carefully and meticulously gather all evidence that might bind you and will use it when you have no choice but to comply.
Do not underestimate women, for they are time bombs always at your side, and because they love you, they would rather blow themselves up to drag you to hell with them, perishing together is their last expression of love, for their deep love turns into fierce hatred.
On the contrary, women have great patience; they await their equal, whether it be people, matters, or things, often far longer. So, when Yao Zheng composed himself and entered the reception room, three women sat quietly drinking tea there.
Having just experienced a struggle with a woman, now returning to the scene he desired, in the peaceful and sweet harmony like a spring breeze.
As Yao Zheng pushed open the door, the far-gazing scene appeared once again in his mind.
"District Chief Yao!" Summer Snow, while talking with Dan Qing, was surprised when Yao Zheng appeared, stopping mid-sentence. Raising her head from her phone, her eyes emitted a slight coldness that Yao Zheng greatly disliked. He always felt seen through by this woman, her silent demeanor giving him a sense of being watched from afar.
"I had to handle a personal matter, sorry to have kept you waiting." Yao Zheng courteously walked in.
"It wasn't a long wait." Xia Xue put down her cup. "Let's begin directly, I don't have much time."
"Alright, I'll have someone from the Planning Department come over. He knows more about that area." Yao Zheng pressed an internal line. "Shen Yixing is our North District Planning Director, a very experienced person, any questions you have can be asked freely."
"Certainly, but before that, I'd like to inquire about District Chief Yao's thoughts on the new facilities, so I can use them for reference. The population mobility is quite high in the northern district. I did some research before coming and learned that the area relies heavily on the hotel economy. There's some rumor about it being known for its civilized adult entertainment." Saying this, Xia Xue blushed slightly.
"Most of the north district is a gathering place for transient populations; housing is comparatively cheap. In today's large social environment, housing prices are steadily rising. Renting a decent place already costs most people's wages, not to mention buying a house." Yao Zheng also lamented, walking to the floor-to-ceiling window. "From here, you can see one of the main roads leading to the city center. The relatively bustling part of the north district is just this area, with hotels, malls, office buildings, and entertainment venues. Although everything we should have is present, the consumption level remains low. Due to low average income, retail and consumption prices don't quite rise either."
"So that's how it is!" Summer Snow observed, looking down. She now understood that the present scene had a relatively substantial commercial area with hotels, shopping malls, office buildings, and entertainment venues, but there was a lingering sense of heavy older infrastructure.
"To my left starts an industrial area, you can't see it from here, but it's quite a distance. The large-scale area is some distance away, and there are also shops, shopping centers, office buildings, and entertainment centers, but the sector with commercial activities and shops is mostly here, and it's a prosperous part of the northern district." Yao Zheng took a cigarette from his pocket, thought for a moment, and then put it back. "As District Chief, it hasn't been easy for me. I don't know where the core of the problem lies. I think it may have something to do with consumption habits and consumer groups. After all, investors need to report. What do you think?"
"I see!" Summer Snow stood by, gazing downward. What she saw was a busy section leading to the center, a prime piece of the northern area, buzzing with hotels, shopping malls, office buildings, and entertainment venues—a place where its thriving area around here feels heavily outdated and burdensome.
"To my left ensues an industrial zone further out of sight, but there's still quite some distance to cover. The environment is not ideal. Large plants are a bit far. Doing this district mayor job isn't easy; the burden is all on my shoulders. So I'm also puzzled by where the problem lies, but maybe it connects more with the views of consumption and consumer groups. Investors need to have a report, after all, people spend, but not as much as we expect." Yao Zheng drew a cigarette from his pocket, thought about it, and then put it back. "It's not easy being this district chief, you know, I've put my heart into it, and it simply isn't easy, I should admit. I thank you for waiting, your support is my greatest motivation." (Thank you for your support.)
