Special Forces Medic-Chapter 729 - 696: Catching Fire
The silver-white QQ car sped frantically down the highway, Xiao Lin solemnly staring ahead. The music inside the car was so loud that it drowned out the sound of horns from other vehicles outside. This was dangerous, but he completely disregarded such traffic rules, skillfully weaving between cars. He had to figure out one thing: Did all those people die in the battles years ago? Why was Liang Hu still alive? 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The direction of the car was towards the Dragon Soul headquarters; the person who could give him answers was there. He drove towards that direction recklessly, needing more release from the stifling rage within his heart. When he got a clear look at the face of the man in black, he thought the man would dodge, but instead, the man waited for him to come and unveil everything. This meant he recognized him from the start, hence why he wouldn't hide, or perhaps, he wanted to tell him something. Regardless of the speculations, the people who could give him answers were just those three.
Initially, about Liang Hu's deception, he was speechless, but what truly made him angry were those three old men. "Hey!" The sound of the phone ringing came through the Bluetooth.
"Bro, Beigong is on fire!" Hua Qingyi and Xiao Lin had split in two directions. While he went with Yan Fengying to Beigong to retrieve all the data, he received a call from Elder Sun's student. When they rushed there, the fire trucks were jammed at the entrance of the street. It took a lot of effort for one to get through, yet it could not connect the hose inside, allowing the fire to burn upward helplessly.
"I'm on my way." Hanging up the phone, Xiao Lin yanked off the Bluetooth set on his ear and tossed it out. Dragon Soul's headquarters was right in front; he slapped the steering wheel forcefully, then stepped on the accelerator, making a 360-degree turn in place, heading towards the northern district.
The fire was spreading viciously. When firefighters connected hoses from the outside to channel water inside Beigong, half of the building was already submerged in a sea of flames. Most of Beigong's decorations were primarily wood, thus accompanied by the crackling sound of firecrackers amidst the glow. Students, driven out by firefighters, stood on the street in shock, having forgotten to bring out their tools. When they wanted to return to retrieve them, it was already too late.
"You can't go in now, it's very dangerous inside." Waves of heat and dense smoke gushed from the entrance, choking everyone, making breathing impossible. Inside was a gray mist, visibility was very low; not only entering, even standing by the doorway was unbearable.
Xiao Lin parked his car behind the fire truck; he looked through the crowd for Hua Qingyi's figure, seeing several students debating with firefighters, he walked over swiftly. "What's the matter?"
Some students recognized Xiao Lin, knowing he was friends with their mentor, and nodded politely at him. "Our tools and data are still in there, it's impossible to retrieve them now."
"Where did the fire start?" Xiao Lin consoled them with a few words, turning to ask a firefighter.
"Not much outside, the main building caught fire. Since the fire is trapped inside, rescuing is quite troublesome. Luckily, there are no personnel inside, otherwise the damage would be extremely severe." The firefighter was a talkative person; just asking casually, he would tell you quite a lot.
"How could it catch fire out of nowhere?" Just as he finished speaking, a massive explosive sound erupted from inside, as though something flammable was ignited, causing immense air currents to surge out. Fortunately, it was a certain distance from the interior structure and didn't blast towards them directly; nonetheless, they were still slightly affected.
"Is there anyone inside?" Xiao Lin glanced inside; judging by this, the chance of preserving anything was slim to none.
"Only our firefighters are in there."
"This is too dangerous; give me a protective mask!" Xiao Lin intended to say they should evacuate, but upon further thought, if he spoke those words, he would likely overshadow the leader. He glanced around but didn't see anyone looking official; however, a car did catch his eye, and he noted the license plate with a quick glance.
"You want to go in? That's not allowed." The firefighter shook his hand repeatedly. "Don't create chaos here, there are professionals inside." Saying this, he pushed Xiao Lin and several students further back, isolating them in a more distant safety zone.
Onlookers dodged the waves of heat and smoke, while timid merchants clutched their belongings, fleeing from shops. Questions like whether the fire would spread to their homes were constantly bombarding the firefighters maintaining the perimeter.
"You guys should go back and rest, don't think about retrieving your things from inside." Xiao Lin advised the students a few words, stopped trying to go inside, instead inserting his hands into his pockets, slowly approaching that blue business car. The license plate indicated it was a regular private car, and the car looked new, having been bought less than three months ago. The windows were tinted, making it impossible to see inside from outside. Xiao Lin got a hat from a student, wore it, held a newly bought liquor bottle in hand, and poured some into his mouth. His slightly long hair was tied into a short ponytail, strutting in a ruffian manner along the street.
Earphones in his ears, playing rock music. Head down, staring at the ground, occasionally bumping into passersby, not caring at all.
"Damn, are you blind or something?" After a woman's light shout, a man's angry roar soon followed.
Xiao Lin pulled down the brim of his hat with a hand; in a man's perspective, this gesture was complete contempt, coupled with Xiao Lin's silent demeanor, fueling the anger.
"I'm talking to you, stop right there." The man ignored the girl's tugging; this was absolutely a moment to display heroism. He charged forward, placing a hand on Xiao Lin's shoulder from the back door. "You bumped into someone and wish to leave without saying a word, that's not right, an apology is appropriate!"
Being grabbed from behind, Xiao Lin couldn't care less about the situation; a shoulder throw sent the man behind him flying, landing just beside that business car. The man thrown to the ground was a bit stunned; he rubbed his butt, unable to get up temporarily, seemingly having sprained his waist. The girl screamed and ran over to her boyfriend after witnessing the incident.
"How can you hit someone?" The girl watched Xiao Lin while trying to help her boyfriend up from the ground.
"Don't bother, go aside." The man borrowed force to stand up from the ground, shoving his girlfriend aside to face Xiao Lin. "You're dead, kid." He said, charging at Xiao Lin's face.
