Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 492: Knights Versus Vampires

Jace moved to another window opening as he pulled his experimental weapon off his back and looked in the direction where they should be coming from and could barely make out as K slit the throat of a vampire and pulled him out into the rain and out of sight. It looked like they would be able to sneak into the mausoleum easily enough. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

They were fortunate there was one so close. Although the cathedral and massive mausoleum combination was unique to the Circle of Yuri. It was something that was developed following their conversion to vampires.

The cathedral itself became a gathering place where conversions would occur. While those who were converted were considered lesser they still were celebrated by their peers and others. Apparently it was a big thing to come and watch a conversion.

Then the mausoleum behind the cathedral would be like a church or place of worship for the vampires. Sometimes they would go there to get married or something else. There was supposed to also be a crypt underneath it where the vampires buried criminals and after a marriage the vampires would spend their ’honeymoon’ in the crypt.

It was a strange tradition. But Jace was not going to fault vampires on the traditions they developed to promote their own uniqueness when compared to humans and the other races.

After confirming that Ulin had started he moved back to the other side of the bell tower and crouched down. Raising his experimental weapon as a faint hum could be heard after a bullet bounced off the giant bell behind him.

The weapon he was using did not yet have a name. But it had custom ammunition and the design was made specifically to accommodate his powers. It was similar to the railgun he created before. Because it used alternating magnetic and electrical currents to launch a bullet out of the gun as opposed to an explosive powder.

There was no actual sight on the weapon because he could just use the ones built into his armor visor. While he could use the weapon to launch a few bullets at the speed and force of his railgun to take out larger targets. He could also slow it down so it would just be a high powered sniper.

There were a few faults with this weapon though. For one, he had to let the magnets and wiring cool off for every magazine of bullets or every time he fired a high powered shot. Then there was the fact that only he could use it at the moment because he needed to channel electricity to power it. There used to be another fault but he turned it into a benefit.

The weapon used to melt parts of the weapon with a lack of output for the excess electricity since it could not just constantly run through it. So he created a small alteration to the barrel so when he fired a bullet it would also fire a bolt of hard light as well. So he could fire both a high speed bullet and a laser bolt at the same time. Or he could fire one or the other. Although when he did not fire the laser bolt the barrel of the weapon would flash instead.

As he aimed he could see the battle was starting to heat up. The first of the holy empire’s machines pulled down the street and into the open courtyard. It was just a simple tank with treads. But the top of the tank slowly turned toward the barrel toward a building and fired a massive laser out that burned through a building and killed the vampires that were inside.

Soon after it started firing the laser an object flew through the air and attached itself to the tank. Then the object blew up in a fiery red explosion that quickly engulfed the tank. After a moment the laser stopped and the fiery red flames disappeared to reveal a melted tank the metal was still hardening after being melted.

Immediately afterwards another vehicle flew out from behind the melted Holy Empire tank. It looked like a troop transport. It barreled forward with the driver being pelted by several lasers and bullets. He quickly died but when he did the vehicle exploded and threw shrapnel and debris to the nearby area. Which killed some of the vampires and destroyed the fountain a lot of them were using as cover.

Jace took a moment to watch as the Holy Empire pushed their advantage. Then he found his first target as a Juggernaut from the Holy Empire in power was slowly pushing forward with a giant metal shield. He did not have a shot on the juggernaut’s lower body. But he could already tell that he could hit either the bag that was on his back or the juggernaut’s right shoulder.

He fired and there was a faint click followed by a flash of yellow at the barrel. The juggernaut staggered slightly as a hole appeared in its armor and some blood splattered out the back. But seeing as it stopped bleeding the laser probably scorched the hole afterward.

The juggernaut hunkered down and held his position. Lowering himself so Jace could not take shots at his shoulder or backpack. Jace clicked his tongue in annoyance as he heard a voice calling out praise for the sniper that found the juggernauts weak point.

But Jace just switched targets. Aiming at a gun emplacement that the vampires had set up. He first observed and looked over the set up. They were set up around some heavier looking bricks and rocks that would not be easily destroyed. But behind the set up they had some ammunition and some soldiers that were reloading while the gun was firing constantly. The gun is a rotary laser cannon that was shooting out red lasers. Feeding into the gun was a power source that was sitting off to the side.

About the different colored lasers and weapons fire. It all depended upon the amount of heat, electricity, and the metal of the barrel. For instance, the lasers from his experimental sniper railgun were yellow because the composite metal that allowed him to magnetize and demagnetize turned the electricity yellow as it ran through it.

The reason the vampire’s lasers are red is because they are essentially giant masses of heat that are being fired using a high output of electricity and using a barrel made of a composite metal with iron. The main component of one of these types of weapons is that they need a lot of energy to start but not much to maintain their firing power.

So he just needed to destroy the power source and the resulting explosion won’t be massive but since it needed to be so close to the weapon it should destroy the laser rotary gun and injure the vampire that was shooting it but would not kill them. Unfortunately vampires were too durable.

He fired and there was the quiet ’ting’ noise as the bullet launched out. A surprising side effect of the alteration he made to his weapon was that it was so much quieter.

Down by the vampires the large battery exploded and the shrapnel destroyed the weapon but only injured the vampires nearby. He could see after a second as a vampire pointed up to his position.

In response he fired and the bullet tore through the vampire’s head killing them. The vampire’s body fell as they were still pointing up at Jace. A second later Jace had to move back as a barrage of lasers and bullets began bouncing off the side of the tower. He could also hear over their communication channel as they tried to get in touch with the snipers and spotters that were assigned to the bell tower.

Jace looked back over at the Holy Empire and saw they were making another move as more tanks pulled up out of the street and made a line towards barricades the vampires were hiding behind. As they moved they fired to the sides at the houses that were around the open area. They were filled with vampires and were the main reason the Holy Empire could not move up.

But with this bold move and the juggernaut they had a bunch of shields and cover that they could use to get close enough to use melee weapons. Which is where this particular group of Holy Empire soldiers prospered.

He could tell because he watched as one Holy Empire soldier tossed aside his rifle and pulled out a sword and then slashed off a vampire’s head. Taking a closer look he began to realize this might be a special unit of soldiers. They were using shields and swords as soon as they got close.

Not to mention when one of the vampires did that phasing trick the soldiers did something that caused them to suddenly appear and fall to the ground in pain and grab their head.

Jace aimed at one and fired. The head of the Holy Empire soldier snapped back. Then he collapsed. Immediately afterwards one of the tanks turned their barrel toward Jace’s bell tower.
