Soul Land 5: The Rebirth of Tang San-Chapter 929: Approach and Die
Chapter 929: Approach and Die
"What do you think you're doing?" Tang San asked as he raised his hand and picked up the two fruits on the table.
"Brother, you're out of seclusion! I'm auctioning them! Can you believe it? Our clan's Blue Gold Fruits, and they're only offering five amethystine coins each. One of these can extend your life by ten years! I heard from the elders that they go for at least ten coins at formal auctions. They are even effective for Emperors !"
"Then why didn't you sell them at a formal auction?" Tang San asked, confused.
Jin Miaosen sighed. "They wouldn't take them. I went to the auction house and they said Blue Gold Fruits weren't worth auctioning. Told me to sell them myself."
"Then you should've gone to a merchant caravan!" Tang San replied.
"The caravans and the shops wouldn't take them either. I really had no choice. I had to rent this spot—which is crazy expensive, by the way—and try to auction them here. But they still only offer five coins at most!"
"Hey, stop interfering. We already placed our bid. If no one raises the price, those two Blue Gold Fruits are ours," said a gruff voice.
Tang San turned. A massive bear demon, standing nearly five meters tall and covered in thick brown fur, loomed over him. The aura radiating from it was fierce; clearly, it was a Demon King.
"The price isn't fair. We're not selling." Tang San turned to Jin Miaosen. "Let's go."
"You can't leave. You accepted our bid, so the Blue Gold Fruits are ours. That's the rule," the bear demon snarled, blocking their path.
Tang San replied coolly, "What rule is that? This isn't a shop or an auction house. There's no deal until payment is made, so what rule are we talking about now?"
"It's our rule. What, is your little Blue Gold Tree clan going to defy the rules of the Ancestral Court?" Another voice rang out. A shadowy figure cloaked in a black robe approached, shrouded in darkness. The bear demon immediately stepped aside respectfully.
Tang San didn't even glance at the newcomer. "And what do your rules have to do with us?" he said as he continued walking.
The bear demon stepped forward again, blocking their way.
Tang San looked up at it. "If you block my path again, I'll take it as a direct attack."
The bear demon grinned. "You clearly don't know the Ancestral Court's rules. Outside of duel arenas, fighting is strictly forbidden. Break that rule, and you'll face serious punishment."
Tang San chuckled. "So you think I'm powerless because I can't fight here?"
The bear demon laughed. "What else can you do? Hand over the Blue Gold Fruits and the deal is done. Then we'll let you leave."
Tang San turned to Jin Miaosen. "You really need to be more careful, you know? This is the Ancestral Court, not Skytree City. There are always malicious types around. It's not that auctions or shops won't take our Blue Gold Fruits because they're cheap. Something this valuable, something that can even extend the life of Emperors, is worth far more than five or even ten purple coins. These guys are clearly working together to force the price down, so they can buy low and resell high. Understand?"
As he spoke, a deep blue halo spread out from him. It wasn't large, just a one-meter radius around him, and it didn't affect Jin Miaosen at all.
"Everyone, please take note. The blue aura around me is a special domain of my clan. Anyone who enters it... will die. The Ancestral Court doesn't prohibit walking around with domains active, so I will kindly ask you to stay back. If you happen to die from touching my domain, that's not on us." With that, he walked straight toward the bear demon.
The bear demon flinched, instinctively stepping back. The surrounding crowd quickly scattered as well. A domain was something only powerhouses above the tenth order could possess. Who would dare risk touching that kind of power?
The bear demon roared angrily. "You're just trying to cheat your way out!"
Tang San didn't respond. He simply kept walking forward.
The bear demon let out a low growl, then turned to glance at the shadowy figure in the cloak.
The cloaked figure gave a subtle nod.
The bear demon sneered and stepped forward again, blocking Tang San's path. "I'd like to see what kind of death your Blue Gold Tree clan's domain can cau—ugh..."
He didn't even finish his sentence before Tang San reached him. The deep blue light, extending just beyond a meter from Tang San's body, touched the bear demon.
The bear demon felt a strange pulling sensation. It wasn't pain, but an alarming emptiness, as if something was being drained from within. In just a moment, its imposing aura deflated altogether. Despite channeling its bloodline power with all it had, it was stunned to see the blue glow at the point of contact bleach its brown fur into a patch of gray-white. Weakness washed over it instantly.
The bear demon cried out and staggered back, knocking over several other bystanders.
Tang San hadn't even fully activated his Life-Deprivation Domain to trap it; he just let the bear retreat freely. Then, looking at it calmly, Tang San said, "I warned you. Touch my domain and you die."
With that, he led Jin Miaosen away.
This time, even the shadowy figure in the black cloak dared not stop him, and no one else moved to block his path either. Tang San and Jin Miaosen slipped through the crowd and disappeared.
Behind them, the massive bear demon stood in shock. A wide patch of gray-white fur now marked its paw, and its aura had clearly weakened. It growled again, but this time, its eyes were full of fear.
As they walked away, Jin Miaosen huffed angrily. "These demon and nymph folks in the Ancestral Court are really awful. They're always bullying outsiders."
Tang San said calmly, "It's the law of the jungle everywhere. We're new here, and you're trying to make money. Of course you'll be targeted. But tell me, why were you suddenly selling Blue Gold Fruits? That's not something you can just take out and sell casually."
Even if he didn't know exactly how rare they were, Tang San could easily tell how valuable they would be to demons and nymphs alike. Five amethystine coins? What bullshit. These things are practically priceless!
Jin Miaosen looked a little sheepish. "Big Brother, isn't that matchmaking tournament starting soon? The elders said you should join. But we're not good at fighting. I heard there's going to be a massive auction before the tournament, something the Ancestral Court's never seen before. There'll be a lot of good stuff, even divine weapons for battle. I wanted to raise some money... maybe buy you a divine artifact. Even if you can't win, at least you'd have a way to protect yourself."
Tang San was stunned for a moment, then felt deeply moved. He wasn't truly her elder brother, but she had no idea about that, and ever since he'd "returned" to Skytree City, Jin Miaosen had always looked out for him. She genuinely cared for his well-being.
"You didn't need to go to that trouble. Don't worry, I'll be fine," Tang San said gently. He handed the two Blue Gold Fruits back to her. "Put these away."
"Big Brother, did you register?" Jin Miaosen asked curiously.
Tang San nodded. "The Sunborne Nymph Emperor came to see me earlier. He wants me to join the tournament too. It may be technically a matchmaking event, but it's now called the Battle for the Throne. It's tied to the future Emperor positions. So I don't really have a choice."
