Solflare: The Painter's Secret-Chapter 136: Sector 8 of Chaos City (4): Titanium-Skinned Soul Eater
Sonic bat-like creatures burst out from the collapsed building the moment Hei Yung flew toward it. Their wings beat violently, bouncing smoke and dust from the debris as they lunged at him.
Motes of lightning seeped out of Hei Yung and blasted half of the creatures in a single flash.
Their disembodied parts danced in the air as Hei Yung flew through them, his eyes closed, his face devoid of expression.
He stopped at the top of the building and spotted a pack of ironhide lizards encapsulating a humanoid figure below.
’Leon!’ The name escaped through Hei Yung’s skull as he caught flashes of gold light appearing every time one of the creatures was sent flying back by sheer force.
He hung in the air and watched as the boy fought the creatures with the same energy he had shown while Hei Yung trained him.
Meanwhile, standing at the center of the ironhides was like being a wrecked boat at the center of the ocean.
Sweat dripped down from Leon’s arms as he swung both the sword and the war disc in almost useless manners.
He skipped, ducked, jumped, and slid beneath the towering ironhides that promised to crush him with a single shove.
"Die, die, die!" Leon swung the blade countless times at the heads of the creatures as he leapt, at the same time using his bare feet to step on their backs.
Leon faltered when he saw a tiny human figure standing at the far top, where the roof had been cut off. "Hei Yung," the name escaped with a deep sigh that scraped across the edges of his chest.
Before he could recoil back into the fight, a C-rank Ironhide Lizard whipped its tail across the boy’s chest.
Red marks dressed his skin as the impact sent him flying a few meters away, his back and head slamming against the very wall the creatures never dared to approach.
"Fuck! Come and get me here." He spat a huge glob of blood from his mouth, wiped the sweat mixed with blood off his face, and forced himself upright.
’At least I can rest here.’ Just as the thought reeled through his mind, the wall behind him began to dissipate, cracking one layer after another.
Huge stones fell from the top, some slamming into him while the rest struck the ground, spiking dust into the air.
From above, where Hei Yung hovered, the lightning around him intensified as his eyes widened. ’The Titanium-skinned Soul Eater?!’
In a flash, sweat beaded across Hei Yung’s face. And for the first time in a decade, he felt fear.
His hands began to tremble, his blue eyes rolling in their sockets while the ring at his back shimmered as if pulsing, ready to dissipate.
In front of Leon, the ironhide lizards stumbled back, their bodies scrambling for escape.
"Nice, they are fleeing from me." Just as Leon’s shoulders swelled with the thrill of victory, a loud, bone-cracking roar echoed from behind him, sending a shiver down his spine.
From the shadows emerged an obsidian creature that surpassed every giant ironhide lizard Leon had tried fighting, its skin absorbing every strand of light that touched it.
Leon’s breath caught as the gold light in his eyes flared and ran up his arm, coursing through his veins like wildfire.
Locking eyes with the creature’s burning orange gaze, Leon saw death in solid form.
The ground trembled heavily under each step the creature took, spiderweb cracks spreading across the dusty concrete.
Leon gritted his teeth, gripped both the sword and the war disc tighter, then smiled. "I’m not dying alone."
Without hesitation, he launched forward, spinning between two charging ironhide lizards. Their tails crashed toward him in perfect synchronization, but the war disc sliced through them, carving a path ahead.
The roar of the Soul Eater split the air as it swung its right foreleg forward.
The massive claw slammed into the very ground Leon had stood on a few seconds earlier, igniting sparks that paved the way for lava flowing deep beneath the earth.
Watching the boy roll beneath the ironhide, Hei Yung dashed toward the Soul Eater. Lightning strikes fell from the sky and rained upon the creature the moment he neared it.
Almost like a conductor of electricity, the lightning traveled through the creature’s titanium skin and bounced back toward Hei Yung.
’How is that possible?’ Hei Yung’s mind rammed against his skull as he twisted midair, dodging the rebounding lightning before shutting his eyes.
A streak of force reeled past his face like a blade, then curved back toward him. With a silent, swift movement, Hei Yung’s arms danced through the air, shaping the raging lightning.
In a flash, the bolt transformed into a long, blazing blue sword, the word death etched along its surface in Cenzil font. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
With the sword now in his hands, he dashed toward the Soul Eater, a wide grin stretching across his face.
A deafening bang erupted, followed by blinding light and a storming wind. The force blasted both Leon and the ironhide lizards away as if they were nothing more than strands of hair.
When the light dimmed, Hei Yung hovered before the creature, panting, his veins pulsing as blood seeped from his fist.
The moment the blood touched the blue blade, the blazing light intensified. Massive currents of air evaporated from the sword and formed a spinning ring around Hei Yung.
Within the roaring wind, the black robe he normally wore began to change, transforming into a metallic blue war suit that shimmered like the moon.
Beneath his feet, the ring at his back split, forming two smaller rings that rolled down along his skin and fused into the soles of the thick metallic boots taking shape around his legs.
"WHOA!" A scream tore from Leon as he finally forced himself to stand, staring at the suit Hei Yung now wore.
Far away, back at the Special Force grounds, inside the Black Ops room, Bao Xiong stood by the window, his fists clenched.
"It’s been hours since they went out for him. I’m pretty sure he’s dead," Bao Xiong stated, then laughed wholeheartedly, though his jaw tightened.
"You don’t know who you’re talking about." Tiger shot Bao Xiong a look, then stood up, hydraulic power reeling around his clenched fist.
"He will return a different person." He shifted his gaze from Bao Xiong to the open window, the night air brushing against his face. "And when he does... we will be different too."
