Sold to the Capo-Chapter 98: MY WOMAN
VINCENZO’S POV
Maybe it was absolutely stupid of me to leave my mansion in these trying times for us but today was her day and with the reports I was receiving then this may as well be the last time that I would see her so I decided to just take the risk.
The thought made me cringe because it wasn’t something that came to mind a lotㅡdeathㅡ I never really cared about it but I remember wondering if I would ever be scared of death and my answer was always the same. A big fat no.
Not even now.
Fear was something that didn’t come to me easily and these days, I found myself getting scared but it wasn’t for myself but rather for the woman who stood a few feet away from me, her face contorted in pure shock like this was something she couldn’t believe.
Salvatore couldn’t also believe his ears when I had called him this morning to tell him that I was coming over. It had taken me less time than it had for her to come here to Costa Rica.
The only person aware that I had left Sicily was Val and I told her to cover me to keep my men on their toes and to never let anyone know or suspect that I was out of the country.
I would only be here for a few hours anyway. My flight time alone took about 6 hrs when combined so I would have to leave in the early hours of the morning so I could go back to Sicily.
"Vincenzo?" She blurted out again, her eyes wide as she took a step closer to me.
"I would do anything to see that look on your face again, Tesoro. Hey Micheal" I tipped my head to the man behind her who was regarding me with an expressionless look.
Guess I still needed work with that one. Which reminded me that I would need to tell Adriana sooner or later about Michael’s identity but that would depend on when Micheal was ready.
"Can we go?" Salvatore huffed from behind me, already walking to the car that he had brought.
I nodded at him, also feeling the need to leave this airport as soon as I could because I really wanted to talk to her alone.
She took a step back, still looking baffled, and nodded, her gaze still on me as she backed away to the car that Micheal had brought.
"Hey, Micheal, can we switch places? Ride with Salvatore and I’ll ride with her" I suggested to the man who gave a bad look as though I planned on eating his daughter alive in the car.
Not too far from the truth. In more ways than one.
"No" The sound of his curt answer brought me back to reality. He didn’t even wait for me to say anything but instead, he shook his head like he couldn’t believe he was a part of this.
I was even surprised that he had agreed to be a part of this but I knew that the only reason why he was doing this was that Adriana would be happier and that was what he wanted for her.
The look on Adriana’s face was priceless. She looked at Micheal even as she gave me one last glance then she got into the car.
Michael didn’t beat about the bush, he switched on the car and put the car to drive before zooming back to the house.
"You can talk to her at home" Salvatore was at his car, his hand resting on the hood of it as he waited for me. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Of course, I will" I chuckled then got into his car.
We had been driving for a few minutes when Salvatore decided to speak up. "Man, you’re whipped. Wouldn’t have thought that you’d come to meet her on her birthday" He said in a serious tone.
"Wouldn’t be too bad to come to see her to say goodbye, would it?" I asked with a brow raised.
His hands on the steering wheel tightened like he didn’t like the way I was talking. "You will not die, Vincenzo. You could always back out of it" He suggested.
The mere words made my nostrils flare. "It’s about honor, my family’s honor. My honor. You know the Don cannot retreat, the family would sooner kill me than for me to do that"
"At least think about the woman!" He suddenly snapped at me and I stared at him, my eyes burning with anger.
"No matter how much you like Valentina, you and I both know that you’d want to rid the threats so that you two could live in peace, for her to be safe and that’s what I want to do"
It seemed I had struck a nerve because he furrowed his brows. "Don’t bring Val into this"
"It’s the same thing though, isn’t it?" I asked with every intention of making him feel bad but he ignored my jab and focused on the road ahead of him.
I didn’t even want to think about that right now, I had come here for a reason and I would rather not spend my time thinking about something like that.
With time, we finally got to the house just as I saw Micheal pull to a stop beside us, already helping Adriana out of the car.
"We’ll talk later," I said under my breath, my eyes fixed on the woman who had been giving me sleepless nights since she left. I opened the door quickly and stepped out of the car, my feet carrying me straight to where she stood.
She was waiting for me, a small smile on her face. "Hey," she finally said, looking up at me as I came to a stop in front of her.
"Wanna show me around? You know what...we need to talk privately" I waited for her to say something and she nodded in response, hesitating like she wanted to say or do something but didn’t know how to do it so she turned on her heels and began walking to the house.
With a small smile at her actions, I reached down and grabbed her hand lightly, almost shutting my eyes at the feeling of her fingers against mine.
"You shouldn’t have to hesitate if you can’t, I will," I said without looking at her, letting her lead me into the house.
Michael was right behind us like he wanted to listen to what we had to say and it wasn’t until Adriana got to her room and turned around that she noticed that Micheal was behind us.
"Oh," she looked startled for a brief second. "Is there something wrong?"
I turned to look at Micheal and the look on his face made me raise a brow. He did know I wouldn’t hurt her but I guessed that he just didn’t want to see her in any sort of pain which is why he was still wary of me.
"Oh. I just..." He paused, not knowing what to say anymore.
I quickly beat him to it. "Why don’t we put it this way... I want to talk to my wife. Alone" I spelled out for him, emphasizing on the word "wife".
It seemed like my words hit exactly where I needed them to by reminding him that I was indeed married to Adriana.
Adriana didn’t call me out on it, if anything, she simply gave him a small smile and he sighed, taking a step back.
"I’ll leave you both. I was just playing my role with Adriana as her father, right?" He looked at her with amusement in his eyes and I looked between the two of them.
"Wait, you already tㅡ" I almost said but then stopped myself when Adriana spoke up.
"It’s just for fun," she said to me when she saw the look of confusion on my face.
Micheal grinned and left us alone then Adriana opened her door and pulled me inside, locking the door behind her.
"Woah... calm down, Adriana. If you want me that bad, you can just tell me" I whistled, looking around her room, my hands in my pockets. "Cake?" I tilted my head as I walked to her table and stared at the small cake.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" She asked, her eyes wide and her arms crossed around her body.
I took the small fork from the side and used it to cut out a piece of cake which I extended to her but she shook her head and I dunked it into my mouth instead. "As I said, it’s your birthday and I just wanted to see because please tell me that I’m not the only one who has lost my head in the last few days you’ve been gone..." I was saying, my tone filled with every seriousness but she was silent, too silent.
I didn’t care about that. I turned away from her to look at the cake, knowing that I couldn’t continue beating about the bush today. Not when it could be my last.
"Maybe not you but I couldn’t reason properly, couldn’t sleep. I was always goddamn thinking about what you were doing, always wanting to hear your voice, and... today, today I had an excuse for it". A small smile tugged on my lips.
Suddenly, I felt her hand on my shoulder and I turned around to look at her, wondering what she wanted. Then suddenly she leaned up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to mine almost hesitantly.
"It wasn’t just you, Vincenzo. I’ve missed you and it sounds crazy to me also" She whispered.
"Fuck it..." I groaned, grabbing the back of her head as I smashed my lips to hers again.
