Sold to the Capo-Chapter 88: A GIFT FROM VINCENZO
ADRIANA’S POV
"Oh uh..." I looked at the man weirdly though I forced a smile at him, wondering why he seemed so emotional to see me.
Salvatore, who was behind me, gave the man a small shake of the head. "Mr Carraro, please follow me," he said to the man who was still staring at me.
I smiled at him and collected my suitcase from him. "Thank you" I smiled at him, eager to go to my room and make sure my things were intact.
Before the man left with Salvatore, he said something that made me freeze.
"You’re different now..."
I whipped my head around to look at him but he was already leaving the living room with Salvatore leading the way.
What the hell did that mean? I just ignored it and focused on my suitcase then I realized that I didn’t know the way back to the room again.
Shit.
As though on cue, the door opened and Dora sauntered in. "Mr. Salvatore said to show you to your room again since you’re new here and you’re not used to the layout yet," She said.
I nodded thankfully and grabbed the suitcase with my stuff in it, hauling it after her as she walked towards my room, it seemed.
Finally, we got to a door, and she stopped in front of it. "Here we are" She smiled at me.
I nodded and looked at the door and then at the hallway that I had just come from. "Okay, I would need to take a look around if it’s fine..." I said, then I quickly added. "Alone"
The last thing I wanted was for her to be peering over my shoulder as I tried to get used to the feel of this place. She didn’t seem to mind my words, she simply shrugged. "Suit yourself" She muttered with a small smile before walking away.
I opened my door and walked into the room, shutting the door behind me. I quickly sat at the edge of my bed and opened the case using the lock, sorting through my stuff.
I didn’t need to pack many clothes, just a few necessities that I felt that I couldn’t leave behind, and thankfully, they were still intact. Thank fuck for that.
However, as I rummaged through it, my fingers brushed against something at the bottom of the bag. It was cold and felt like metal. What the fuck was that?
I immediately grabbed it and pulled it out, a gasp escaping me when I saw that it was my gun. A smile curved my lips upwards, he had still sent it over.
When I was packing, I decided to leave it behind because I felt that Vincenzo would be mad if I had carried a weapon, but now, he had sent it so I didn’t feel defenseless.
I quickly searched through the box, a part of me wishing that I could find something that was from him again but nothing. That was it.
With a groan, I pushed the box to the side of the room, muttering to myself about coming back for it later when I was done checking around this Haven.
I went for a shower and as I checked the wardrobe in the room, I found dresses there and unsurprisingly they were all in my size.
Vincenzo had planned this all through the way and made sure I wouldn’t have to start off on the wrong foot here.
When I had finished dressing up, I pulled my hair up and left the room, looking at the hallway and muttering stuff to myself before I started walking down the hallway. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
I bumped into a few guards on the way and I quickly greeted them with a small smile on my face that was more forced than genuine.
They seemed to be just patrolling the place, and I suddenly wanted to see Salvatore, so I stopped one of them, hoping that he would do as I said.
"Where’s the Don? Don Rizzo?" I asked, remembering when Valentina had told me his full name.
The man looked back and cleared his throat. "Don Rizzo is currently busy, but if you want to see him, I could get you to him now if it’s important." He stared at me.
I wanted to ask about Vincenzo. It was important so I nodded. "Yes, I would like to be taken there now"
The man didn’t object, and I understood that they probably had orders to obey me; I would figure that out later, I guess. The man led me through the hallways, and I realized we were going upstairs; I walked up the stairs, feeling the ache in my legs as I had stopped to rest since the time I came here.
After what felt like an unending flight of stairs, I finally got to the door that the guard had said was Salvatore’s office.
I thanked him and knocked on the door and then I heard a voice. "Who’s there?"
"Adriana"
There was a slight pause and Salvatore opened the door, looking down at me. "What is it?" He asked bluntly.
I nodded to his office and looked back at him. "Can I at least come in?" I asked him.
He was leaning on the doorway, but he sighed and looked back at his office, then at me again. "Sure, come in" He muttered, stepping aside for me to walk into the office.
As I entered, I was hit with the strong scent of peaches and paper. "Nice place you got here" I muttered, looking around. "Just not what I expected from you," I said honestly.
He scoffed at that, going back to sit behind his desk, and I saw the papers on his tablet, some of them letters addressed to people. The first thing that came to mind was the day when I had walked into Vincenzo’s office and found the letter that had changed my life.
I shook those thoughts out of my head when I realized that Salvatore was talking to me. "Sorry, what did you say?" I asked him.
He frowned at me. " I asked what you expected from my office" He repeated himself.
I laughed a bit at that. "Well, just not this. You give off the same vibes with Vincenzo so I just thought you’d have the same taste in designs"
With another glance, I swept across the room, he was so different from Vincenzo in terms of how he designed his office. While Vincenzo was very much in love with the color black in his office designs, Salvatore had a splash of color. Dark green wallpaper across the walls.
It was...weird to say in the least.
When he noticed that I was staring at his walls, he glared at me. "Stop that and sit down" He growled under his breath.
I nodded and sat down beside him. "Okay sorry. Have you heard from Vincenzo?" I asked, going straight to the point now.
He looked up from what he was writing and he leveled me with his gaze. "Yes, he’s fine. Your suitcase is with your clothes, right? And whatever you put in it, have you checked it?" He asked, changing the subject immediately.
Why was he changing the subject?
"Yes, I have checked it. Will I be able to call him?" I asked.
He sighed and looked up at me. "No, Adriana, you will not be able to call him. Don’t call anyone. You know what? I’ll collect your phone from you and give you a burner phone. We can’t have you giving away our location through a call" He muttered.
I nodded understanding what he was talking about then suddenly I realized that he had told that man to come to his office. Where was he now?
"Oh, where’s Mr Carraro?" I asked.
Salvatore tensed at that question, not feeling comfortable with my line and barrage of questions. "He’s in his room, why?" He peered at me.
"Who is he?" I leaned forward, itching to know who the man was.
Salvatore looked down at the paper on the table like it was suddenly the most important thing in the world. "He’s a friend to the family, that’s all that matters. Don’t be scared of him, he’s an ally" He was looking at me, waiting for some sort of confirmation that I understood what he was saying.
I didn’t see the man as a threat, I just couldn’t understand why he had behaved like that when he had seen me. "Sure thing" I muttered, getting up.
Salvatore hummed and looked back at what he was doing. "You should go to bed and get some rest, if you’re hungry, inform a guard and they’ll inform the kitchen to bring some food for you" he told me.
"I’ll pass for today. I just need to get some rest" I muttered, still reeling.
As I got to the door, I suddenly heard Salvatore’s voice albeit this time a bit softer than usual. "If you want, I could continue training for you tomorrow, if you’re up for it, that is..." he offered.
I paused, my hand lingering on the doorknob. "I’ll think about it" I muttered, my chest tightening as yet another thing reminded me of Sicily, Italy.
This was going to be tough.
