Sold to the Capo-Chapter 38: WHEN DEATH COMES KNOCKING
VINCENZOโS POV
"Thatโs too loud" she screamed at me, her hands pressed over her ears that were covered by earmuffs.
It was probably 9 pm already but I had brought her out here because I needed to get a few shots before midnight. ๐ง๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ท๐ค๐ฟ๐๐ก.๐๐ค๐ถ
Ignoring her complaints, I raised my gun, targeting the target that I had set up here before I pulled the trigger, smiling when it hit exactly where I wanted it to.
"Vincenzo!" She yelled again, standing a few feet away from me, her eyes wide.
"What?" I frowned, pulling out the magazine of the rifle and sighing seeing that I had used the ammo up.
We were at the front yard of the cabin, the lights of the house illuminating the yard where we stood while the looming forest ahead was silent, dark, and eerie.
"Thatโs too loud!" She said, her voice turning hoarse from minutes of screaming and shouting.
It was a bit funny to see her like this and I was getting a rise out of it more than I probably should.
"Guns arenโt meant to be that silent" I reminded her, stretching my hand to grab the assault rifle on the porch.
Her eyes widened as she saw the new weapon I was donning. "You could use a silencer"
"I like the noise"
"What the fuck, Vincenzo? What the hell does that mean?" She shrieked, trying to dust off the flakes of snow gathering on her clothes.
"I like screamers if thatโs what youโre asking," I said with a discreet smirk knowing she was turning beetroot red.
She scoffed rather than calling me out on the obvious double entendre I had used. "Itโs getting too cold out here" She suddenly huffed and this time I paused the inspection of the rifle to look at her.
"You alright?" I looked her over, watching how she crossed her arms across her body.
"Iโm getting cold" She huffed again.
"Youโre wearing a coat with earmuffs and boots. Thereโs literally no exposed part of your body" I looked her over again, frowning as I met her gaze again.
"Well, I really want to sit at the fireplace right now to warm up" she complained, kicking up snow with her boots, the sight almost comical.
"Give me a moment" I finally fixed the bullets into the rifle and I looked at her. "Do you wanna go in alone?"
Her eyes widened. "You mean do I want to go into that creepy cabin alone? No" she almost shrieked at me, the only sound was the whooshing of the wind and the rustling of leaves.
"Then give me a moment" I muttered, aiming at the array of bottles I had placed at strategic places about 20 feet away from me.
"You do know you can come back to this in the mornใ ก" She was cut off by the sound of the gun going off and bottles shattering.
She quickly covered her ears again and she screamed, the sound swallowed by the gunshots.
Smoke billowed around the barrel of my gun and I smiled, seeing how I had successfully shattered all 5 bottles in seconds.
Perfect.
As soon as the atmosphere was calm enough, she groaned. "Can we go inside now? Please" she said through gritted teeth.
"If youโre saying please, it must be serious" I joked, slinging the rifle over my shoulder as I grabbed the smaller gun.
Her gaze followed my movements, her gaze fixed on the small pistol in my hands.
"What?" I asked, following her gaze to my pistol.
"Can I try?" She suddenly asked.
I furrowed my brows, confused by her sudden request. "Didnโt you say you want to go warm up?" I questioned.
"Yeah well, I just want a shot. Just one" Her gaze was filled with curiosity and something else that I knew all too well.
"No. In a minute youโll be begging to go inside. Bet?" I smiled knowing that she didnโt know what to expect from this side of town.
"Bet" she rolled her eyes.
Suddenly there was a piercing howl from the woods and she froze, her eyes widening as she stared at me. "What the fuck was that?"
I shrugged, a smile tugging at my lips. "I have absolutely no idea"
The howl came again, more insistent followed by an answering howl. Adriana tensed and took a step back.
"Vincenzo... are there wolves in the forest?" She gulped visibly, taking shaky steps back to the porch.
I almost laughed at the sight. "One of the many things, yes. Donโt worry, there hasnโt been an attack in years, people donโt usually come around here" I assured her.
She shot me a glare. "Yeah, well weโre here and I donโt want to be Coyote food! Iโm going in! You can stay outside by yourself!" She frowned at me, storming up the short flight of stairs and slamming the door behind her.
That made me crack a smile and I grabbed my stuff, heading inside the cabin.
I had brought her here because I wanted her to open up to me and also I needed to get something done around this area. I knew I couldnโt leave her alone in the mansion as she had proved she was a nuisance and Val was not helping matters.
As I closed the door to the cabin, ignoring the incessant howling, I saw her crouched by the fireplace, flexing her fingers and frowning at the boots she had left next to the fireplace.
"You do know that could melt right? The soles?" I walked over, grabbed the boots, and moved them away from the fire.
She didnโt answer but she was staring at me from the corner of her eyes. "How can you stay here alone? Doesnโt it scare you? What If someone decides to attack you here? No one would find your body" She was paranoid and I suddenly wanted to assure her.
"Tesoro" I began, going to slump down on a chair, the chair creaking under my weight. "No one comes here. I can assure you of that"
She opened her mouth to say something but there was a quick rap on the door that made the both of us freeze.
Adrianaโs eyes widened and she clamped her hand over her mouth, staring at the door.
The knock came again and I stood up, confusion written on my features. What the...
"Didnโt you say no one comes here?" She whispered.
I didnโt answer her, I grabbed my gun and nodded at her to go inside so I could face whoever was out there however I heard a voice from outside.
"Please...help me" Then all went silent.
My eyes widened at the voice. Holy shit.
That was a child.
