Chapter 1716: Chapter 158 : Magical Scorch Marks

*Briella*

“Briella, we’re only going for a few days, not a month.”

It took me a moment or two to process what Kryzen just said. I was staring too intently at our bed and all the supplies that were scattered on top of it. In the middle of the chaos were the massive suitcases that would accompany us on our little trip.

I was tapping my chin thoughtfully as I made a mental note of a couple more things I wanted to grab. “I just want to be absolutely sure that I haven’t forgotten anything.”

I heard Kryzen sigh. He was suddenly behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. “I just don’t think that’s possible when you have grabbed everything we own and put it on our bed,” he muttered in my ear.

I turned to give him my best unamused look. “Have you chosen your outfits for the next few days?” I asked him.

He rolled his eyes like a petulant teenager. “Yes, dear wife of mine,” he said and jerked his thumb behind him.

I followed the gesture to the plush reading chair in the corner of our bedroom. It was covered in a small pile of clothing. I blinked and crossed the room to inspect the garments.

“Kryzen, you only have two pairs of pants here,” I said, picking up the clothing in question.

“Yes, that is correct,” Kryzen said, confusion slipping into his tone. “And?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “We’re going to be gone for five days,” I said, putting a hard emphasis on the number. “You need at least six pairs. And where are the nice ones that you’re wearing for the wedding?”

Kryzen just shrugged his shoulders. “I think our seamstress has my whole wedding outfit done already,” he said. “It’s with the dress you’re wearing.”

I nodded curtly. The outfits we were wearing for the wedding had been sent straight to Celestial Valley.

The staff had offered to pack our things for us, but that was something I always preferred to do myself. I knew I could just write a list of everything I wanted to be packed, but packing up our clothes and supplies felt like such a personal and intimate thing that I couldn’t help but take over.

There was something much more satisfying about packing now that I was a mother. I enjoyed picking out their cute little outfits. Both of their closets were extremely expansive because they were royalty. It gave me more to look through.

“We’ve been packing for over an hour,” Kryzen announced.

I lifted my eyebrow at him. “Are you whining, Your Majesty?” I asked, one corner of my mouth going up.

He scowled at me. “No,” he denied. “I was just stating the ridiculous truth. We have been given a rare day off, and you want to spend it packing things we won’t even use.”

I studied my mate for a moment, determining that he wasn’t really upset. He was a bit frustrated, but he really shouldn’t have been surprised. We’d been together for years at this point, and I always struggled with overpacking. Well, ever since I became a queen and was given more items than I could ever need.

I gave Kryzen an exasperated look and gestured to the piles of stuff on the bed. “All of this is important,” I told him, picking up one of the plush toys. “Because Sulien is your son, he’s going to need a few things to keep him occupied on the way there and on the way back. Emberly has been into coloring lately, so I brought her art kit and some coloring books...”

Kryzen cut me off with a heated kiss. I felt my eyes flutter shut automatically and dropped whatever I was holding back onto the comforter.

I moaned against his mouth, my body instantly relaxing beneath his warmth. His strong arms were on either side of my waist, his hands gripping the comforter tightly.

“Maybe I wasn’t being clear enough to you,” he said between searing kisses. He pulled away briefly. His gray eyes were impossibly dark. “I am prepared to ask our kind and capable staff to pack our bags for us so that I can have some time alone with my mate.”

I inhaled sharply at his words, feeling my whole body flush.

I was only vaguely aware of all the stuff falling to the floor of our bedroom as Kryzen swept them off so he could lift me bodily onto the mattress.

He was on top of me and kissing me fiercely in the next second.

It took just seconds for our clothes to join the rest on the floor. Kryzen trailed light kisses along the side of my neck as he murmured to me.

“I’ve tried to be patient with you,” he said. “I thought to myself, ‘How long can it possibly take to pack for a few measly days?’ Little did I know that you would thoroughly impress me with the answer.”

I giggled lightly when his stubble tickled my chin, causing me to squirm beneath him.

“Ah, ah,” he scolded, scooping my wrists up in one hand and pinning them above my head. My breasts bounced at the quick movement. “Stay still for me, Briella. I want to taste every inch of you.”

I was gasping and moaning as Kryzen’s mouth continued to explore my body. A shudder went through me when he took one of my nipples into his mouth, his tongue swirling around it teasingly.

I felt Kryzen smirk against my skin as I writhed more violently, unable to keep the intense movements at bay. His eyes were bright with mischief, clearly pleased that he was able to get that kind of reaction out of me.

Kryzen’s hand slipped between my thighs. He grazed my wet opening with a single finger. I raised my hips in response, needing more contact.

“You’re so eager, love,” he purred in my ear. He slid a couple of fingers inside. “And so ready for me.”

“I’m always ready for you,” I said simply, splaying my legs even further apart to give him more access.

Kryzen didn’t waste any time and positioned himself between my thighs, running the tip of his cock along my slick passage. I gasped when he shoved it inside of me, taking me completely.

I groaned and reached up so I could dig my fingers into his shoulders. I pulled myself more closely against him, my toes curling as he buried himself even deeper inside of me.

I was already tumbling toward the edge when Kryzen started to rock his hips, sliding in and out of me, causing me to feel every inch of his thick length.

Stars were starting to appear above me as the first orgasm hit. I cried out and shivered violently around him, digging my fingers more firmly into Kryzen’s shoulders as wave after wave of orgasms washed over me.

“You’re so beautiful,” Kryzen said roughly, brushing his fingers across my cheekbone, causing yet another shiver to go through me. “I love you so much, Briella.”

“I love you too,” I said, but it was more of a moan.

Kryzen started to move much more quickly inside of me before he pressed himself against me firmly. His lips found mine as he finished, his whole body quaking.

My head buzzed as we cuddled, the post-sex haze lingering in the air.

“I should pack more often,” I joked, resting my cheek against his bare chest.

Kryzen ran his fingers through my hair. His chest shook as he chucked softly. “You could be doing anything else, and I would still insist on throwing you onto the bed and having my way with you.”

I rolled my eyes and pushed myself off of him. “You’re so romantic,” I said sarcastically but then grinned, kissing him right on the mouth.

Thankfully, we were already dressed and resumed packing when our bedroom door flew open, and Sulien came rushing in. “Something’s wrong with Emberly!” he yelled.

Kryzen and I looked at him in horror before rushing out of the room and down the hall where the two had been playing in the nursery.

Kryzen and I froze in the doorway taking in the sight before us. The room was a mess, and not just from children engaging in play. There was a huge scorch mark on the floor that formed a circle in the middle of the room. Several plushes and other toys lay burned in the huge area. Smoke floated through the air.

In the middle of the chaos was Emberly, crouched on the floor, her large gray eyes filled with tears.

We rushed to our little girl, looking around wildly for a possible enemy that might have caused this destruction.

“What happened, sweetheart?” Kryzen asked, his voice flat but somehow filled with panic. He grabbed her by the shoulders, quickly looking her over. “Are you hurt?”

Emberly shook her head hard, tears spilling from her eyes as she sobbed and threw herself into her father’s arms, burying herself into his chest.

“Shh, sweet girl,” Kryzen murmured gently, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her onto his lap. “What happened?”

I looked at the scorch marks on the floor, noting how there was no blackness where Emberly had been sitting. “Emberly,” I said gently, touching her arm. “Did you do this?”

My daughter just looked up at me and then began to sob harder. “I’m sorry,” she wailed.

Kryzen looked at me in a panic, his wide eyes tortured by our little girl’s cries. “Shh, it’s alright,” I said to Emberly, gently prying her little hands away from Kryzen’s neck so I could hold them in mine. “Mommy’s not mad. She’s just trying to help.”

I concentrated on the girl’s hands, noting how hot they felt to the touch and how energy flowed through them.

It was eerily similar to how Kryzen’s hands felt after he wielded magic. As soon as I thought about it, Emberly’s hands began to glow, and a purple light began to extend from her little palms. It was growing rapidly. Before long, it was completely surrounding us.

Kryzen grabbed me and put both me and Emberly beneath his body, his palm shooting out so he could extinguish the forcefield. We were all breathing hard as we looked around at where the purple shield had been.

Emberly was looking around nervously, her eyes filling with tears again.

“Emberly,” Kryzen said, his voice shaking. He lifted the little girl. “You can bend energy just like Daddy can.”

Emberly’s eyes were wide as her father jumped up and began to dance with her around the room. His grin was so wide that despite her initial fear, Emberly was grinning and laughing along with him.

I relaxed and sat on the floor, watching the two fondly.

“Does Emberly have powers like me?” Sulien asked, getting right in my face.

I laughed and brushed his hair back. “Yes, Sully,” I said. “They are different from your powers. It looks like she can do what Daddy can.”

Sulien’s mouth formed a large “O” as he processed that. Then he was running up to his father and sister so he could join in their little celebration.

“Ember is gonna learn magic with me!” he yelled with glee.

The little scene warmed my heart, but I also couldn’t help the foreboding thoughts as I looked down at the scorch marks that still marred the playroom.
