Sold as the Alpha King's Breeder-Chapter 1711 - 153 : Powerful in Many Ways
*Briella*
The sound of my children’s laughter had me smiling from behind the book I was reading. I tried to focus on the letters, but they just refused to form coherent words as Emberly and Sulien’s high-pitched giggles grew louder.
I had to look up to see what was making them so happy.
Of course, it was my husband.
I would never tire of watching Kryzen interact with our babies. I believed he was gentle with me, but he was even more so with Emberly and Sulien. Even as they rough-housed, he gave the appearance of being tough. In reality, he was adjusting so that he didn’t put any weight on them at all or was constantly putting his hands beneath them to keep them from hitting the hard ground.
He was even more protective of them than I expected him to be.
My favorite people in the world were playing some variation of tag. Emberly and Sulien were ganging up on Kryzen, trying to surround him so they could trap him. Kryzen allowed the two to get close before he jumped over them and scampered away, leaving the two to chase after him.
I smiled and adjusted a bit on the thick picnic blanket I was on so that I could go back to my reading. My queenly duties have been extra trying lately. I had been called into town a bit more than usual, and it had left me exhausted by the end of the day. Kryzen finally decided that we needed a break and would take the next day off.
I had been hesitant at first, but Kryzen made sure our important assignments were taken care of so that we could fully relax for the day.
It wasn’t the most relaxing since we spent most of the day chasing the children around. Well, we were mainly chasing Sulien around. Emberly was the most well-behaved child, which was an absolute blessing since Sulien just couldn’t seem to stay still.
“Sully, get down from there!”
I looked up at the alarm in Emberly’s voice to find that my four-year-old son was now in a tree. My heart leaped into my throat to see my little boy up so high.
“You gotta come up here, Ember!” Sulien squealed in delight.
“Sulien!”
I was about to jump up to save our son, but Kryzen was already on his way up the tree. Emberly was staring up at them in horror. I dropped my book and hurried over to where they were.
“How did Sulien get up there?” I asked my daughter in shock.
“I don’t know!” Emberly practically wailed, looking up at me with tears in her large gray eyes. “We turned for a second, and he was already up there!”
I wrapped my arms around her shoulders, keeping my eyes up at my husband and son. “Don’t worry. Daddy will get Sully down. They’ll both be alright.”
“Sulien,” Kryzen ground out as he continued to pull himself up the tree. “Stay right where you are. Don’t move.”
Sulien looked over at his father in confusion. “I’m okay, Daddy,” he said from atop the branch he was precariously perched on.
“Just hold on, Sully,” Kryzen said. He was finally at the branch Sulien was on. He reached toward our son, but the boy was just out of reach. If he put any weight on the branch, Sulien could lose his balance and fall if the branch moved.
My mind was racing. My energy abilities would do no good in this situation. Any movement at all could cause our child to lose his balance.
My heart stopped beating when Kryzen started to conjure a shield. I could tell immediately what his plan was. He was going to try and put Sulien inside of an orb to protect him.
Sulien’s eyes widened for a moment before he moved slightly on the branch. Even that tiny movement caused him to lose his footing. He squealed before slipping off the branch.
Both Emberly and I screamed and darted beneath the branch to try and catch Sulien.
Time seemed to slow as I watched Sully flail his tiny arms and legs as he careened toward the hard ground. Regret and fear threatened to suffocate me as I realized I wasn’t going to make it in time to catch him.
I couldn’t even process what was happening as a harsh gust suddenly blasted me and Emberly right in the face, sending us sprawling backward. I cried Sulien’s name as I fell back.
I rolled onto my hands and knees, preparing to jump back up and run to my son, but what I saw had me frozen in place.
Sulien was completely fine. That alone was a shock as well as a huge relief. What had my eyes nearly bugging out of my head though was that he was floating a foot or two off of the ground, his hair waving from a wind that didn’t seem to have a source.
Kryzen was practically scrambling down the tree. We all raced to the little boy. “Sulien,” my husband murmured in awe. He was the first to recover from his shock and grinned widely. “It looks like our son is a magic wielder.”
Sulien was watching us with an almost wary expression. He lowered his arms, and the wind stopped, allowing him to land lightly on his feet.
I was far too concerned for Sulien’s well-being to be excited about this new development. I kneeled in front of him and grasped his small shoulders, looking him over carefully. “Are you alright, Sully?” I asked, panic filling my voice. I moved him around, searching for any signs of injury.
“I’m okay, Mama,” he said as he looked down, biting his lower lip.
That concerned me since he was seldom soft-spoken like this. “What’s wrong?” I asked, tilting his chin up with a finger. “Why do you look sad, Sulien?”
Sulien looked up at me with large green eyes. “Are you mad because I made the wind?” he asked softly.
Kryzen and I glanced at each other. My husband kneeled next to me so he could face our son and look him in the eye. “No, Sulien. We aren’t mad that you made the wind. We were just worried about you because you were up so high in that tree. We were scared you would fall and hurt yourself.”
Sully looked up at us confused. “But I can’t fall because I can control the wind,” he said.
“Well, we didn’t know that you can control the wind,” Kryzen said, his voice filled with nothing but awe again now that Sulien was safe. “How long have you been able to do that?”
It really showed that we had been busy lately and hadn’t been spending enough time with our children. How could we not have known that Sulien was able to manipulate the wind? Why didn’t any of his teachers or nursemaids tell us?
“I don’t know,” he said, looking uncomfortable.
“Sulien,” I said slowly. “How did you get so high up in that tree?”
Sulien looked down, seeming unsure. “I just looked up and really, really wanted to go up there,” he said. “I wished really hard, and then it happened. The wind took me up there.”
“That’s amazing, Sully,” Kryzen said, lifting the boy into his arms. “You can do magic. I’m so proud of you.”
Sulien beamed at his father. It was no secret to anyone that he really looked up to Kryzen. My husband was my little boy’s hero.
“Can you do it again?” Kryzen asked, setting Sully back down on his feet and stepping away from him to give the boy room.
Sulien took a breath before concentrating really hard, a tiny wrinkle forming between his eyebrows. After a couple of moments, he sighed and looked up at us. “I can’t. I’m sorry.”
I smoothed his hair back gently. “Don’t be sorry,” I told him. “It takes a long time to be able to make our powers do exactly what we want them to, but guess what?”
Sulien’s eyes rounded. He looked up at me with excitement. “What?” he asked, practically bouncing up and down.
Kryzen and I grinned at one another. My husband kneeled back down in front of the boy. “Mommy and Daddy can teach you how to control it so that you can ask it to do whatever you want it to do.”
Sulien’s jaw dropped in absolute amazement. “Can I ask it to make tornadoes and whirlwinds?” he demanded.
Kryzen laughed. “Maybe,” he said. “We’ll have to see what kind of magic you can do. We’ll have to practice every day so you can get stronger. Do you think you’re ready to do that?”
Sulien nodded eagerly, making both Kryzen and I smile wider.
The kids were exhausted after all that excitement, so we asked to have some fresh fruit and other snacks brought out to have a little afternoon picnic. Sulien was eating everything in sight while Kryzen and I watched fondly.
“Are you not hungry, Emberly?” I asked my daughter, who had been quiet since we sat down.
Our little girl was nibbling on some strawberries before she pushed them away. She shook her head slowly. I immediately grew concerned when her lower lip quivered slightly. I frowned and picked her up so I could settle her in my lap. I tilted her chin so she was looking up at me.
“What is the matter, love?” I asked gently, brushing some wavy locks out of her eyes.
Emberly didn’t answer right away, her large gray eyes filling with tears. “I’m older than Sully,” she said. “How come my powers haven’t come yet?”
Kryzen moved so he was next to me. He caressed our daughter’s cheek, brushing her cheekbone with his thumb lovingly. “Even if you never get powers, we will always love you,” he told her firmly. “Just because you don’t have powers right now, doesn’t mean you aren’t strong and brave. We happen to know that you are powerful in many ways, Emberly. Don’t forget that.”
Kryzen always knew just what to say to our children to cheer them up. Emberly nodded tearfully, smiling slightly. Our daughter slipped off my lap so she could sit next to her brother.
I let out a breath and leaned against Kryzen’s shoulder. He wrapped an arm around me, pulling me into his side. “Probably not the most relaxing day off,” I quipped good-naturedly.
“No,” Kryzen agreed. “But it was still necessary.”
I nodded in agreement. The day was eye-opening if not anything else. We were going to have to make more of an effort to do this more often so that we could spend more time with our children. They were growing and developing so quickly. Now that we knew Sulien was a magic wielder, we would need to find an instructor for him. Although, if I knew Kryzen, he would probably try to be his sole teacher.
“Uncle Kai is back!” Emberly squealed, jumping to her feet and racing off, Sulien following after her excitedly.
Kryzen and I stood and spotted Kai and Lillian approaching. I was a little surprised to see them back so soon. They had just left the day before to visit the Enchanted Isles.
“Back already?” I teased when they were in front of us.
Kai laughed and put an arm around Lillian. “Someone couldn’t wait to share the big news.”
I felt my eyes widening as we all looked at Lillian expectantly. Her cheeks were a bright pink, but her lips were spread into a wide smile. She held up her left hand, causing the ring on her finger to shimmer.
I squealed and tackled my soon-to-be sister-in-law.
