“She’s really tuckered out, isn’t she?” Kryzen commented, giving Emberly a fond look.

I smiled softly at our daughter, who was passed out in her father’s arms. The ball was over, and it had been a huge success. Emberly was such a shy child, but she was able to peek out of her shell when surrounded by loved ones.

Tears of happiness threatened to spill from my eyes as I remembered the way my parents interacted with Emberly. My father had been so tender as he held her, reminding me very much of my childhood. Mother was just as gentle as she played with Emberly, making our little girl laugh as she was tickled and cuddled.

“Briella?”

I shook my head hard, realizing that I had failed to answer my mate. I grinned up at him sheepishly, wiping at the corner of my eye. “Sorry,” I said a bit shakily. “I just had such a wonderful time tonight.”

Kryzen adjusted our daughter in his hold so he could carry her with one arm. He wrapped his free one around my waist, tucking me close to his side. “I understand,” he murmured gently. “There’s just something about seeing all your loved ones gathered after a time of darkness.”

That was definitely part of why I was suddenly feeling so emotional, but there was something else he didn’t know either.

It was probably as good a time as any to tell him.

Kryzen cradled Emberly close to his chest, causing my heart to flutter. He had taken to fatherhood so well, which I had easily predicted. Kryzen was strong and had a bit of a temper, but he could be extremely caring and kind when he wanted to be. With our daughter, he was always tender and warm.

Whenever he was home, he made it a point to take over the parenting whenever he could. The maids were always bewildered and not sure how to respond when Kryzen gently moved them out of the way so he could feed Emberly or give her a bath. He did that often as if he couldn’t get enough of being a dad.

I couldn’t take my eyes off of Kryzen as we entered Emberly’s room and he stroked her back lovingly, kissing her on the cheek and rocking her slowly. “Could you please grab her a night dress?” he asked me.

“Sure,” I said, moving to Emberly’s closet and picking out a baby blue one covered in white stars. Kryzen already had our daughter on the changing table when I arrived, and she was still fast asleep. “I can change her into her nightgown.”

Kryzen held his hand out for the clothes. “I don’t mind doing it,” he said.

I shook my head fondly but handed him the little dress. I didn’t mind either since I loved watching him do domestic things like that. He handled Emberly as if she were made of glass, carefully slipping her little arms through the sleeves of the gown before picking her back up again and crossing the room to the crib.

“She’s grown so much in just a year,” Kryzen murmured as he set her down on the soft mattress. He pushed some of her wild curls away from her face before tucking a thin blanket over her tiny body.

I stared down at our child and reached up to rub Kryzen’s back in soothing circles. “She’s only going to grow faster from now on,” I warned in a teasing tone.

Kryzen frowned and then pursed his lips. “Is there a way we can slow that down?” he asked thoughtfully.

I swatted his shoulder playfully, causing Kryzen to chuckle good-naturedly.

We both pressed a kiss to our daughter’s forehead before quietly exiting the room.

I was preparing to tell Kryzen the news, so I asked if we could sit out on the balcony for a little while. Kryzen agreed easily, seeming just as energetic as I felt.

I inhaled deeply as soon as we stepped out into the cool night air. The moon was full and seemed to be smiling down at us with the way it glowed softly over our kingdom, touching rooftops with its gentle light.

I went right up to the edge of the balcony, leaning against the railing so I could gaze out over our land at the rolling hills and quickly growing shops and homes outside of the palace gates.

It was still hard to wrap my mind around the fact that Kryzen and I were responsible for the well-being of all these people. They looked to us for guidance and aid. I doubted I would ever be able to fully grasp the concept.

Before too long, we would be responsible for one more.

I tilted my head sideways to look at Kryzen, surprised to find that he was staring at me intently, his eyes a stormy gray beneath the moonlight. “Can I help you?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

Kryzen gave me a lazy, crooked smile, stepping up to me so he could wrap his arms around me, and leaning back so he could look into my eyes. “Just admiring my mate,” he said. His gaze grew serious just a moment later. “And just thinking about how blessed I am.”

“We both are,” I said at once, trailing my fingers over Kryzen’s arms through the suit jacket he was still wearing. I took a deep breath in. “Are you ready for another little blessing?”

He froze, not even breathing anymore as he stared down at me in confusion. “What do you mean?” he asked.

I could feel the anticipation coming off of him in waves as his hands dropped to my hips. I had a feeling he figured it out before the words slipped out of my mouth. “I’m pregnant.”

The first emotion on his face was shock. His gray eyes widened, and his jaw dropped as he gaped at me. A couple of seconds passed before his lips spread out into a stunning smile that had my heart stuttering.

“You’re really pregnant?” he asked in wonder, his eyes full of unbridled glee. It was like he couldn’t believe it like I was making his dreams come true.

I giggled and nodded. “I actually suspected I was for a little while now,” I admitted a little guiltily. “I confirmed with the healers a couple of days ago.”

I heard him inhale sharply before his strong arms were around me again. He hugged me so hard that my feet left the ground. I was laughing in pure delight until I felt him stiffen. He put me down and blinked down at me, disapproval heavy in his eyes. “And you’re just now telling me?” he demanded incredulously. “Why didn’t you say something as soon as you suspected?”

I shrugged helplessly. “There was just so much going on,” I defended myself. “We were planning Emberly’s birthday party, and you had that really long defense meeting on the day I confirmed it. I was waiting for the right time.”

It was clear that Kryzen wasn’t mad. I probably could have told him that Drius hit on me or something, and he couldn’t be mad, not when he knew that I was once again carrying his child. He was practically glowing as he hugged me fiercely again, my feet leaving the ground again.

“This is incredible, Briella,” he said, practically shaking with excitement. “Another baby... Emberly is going to be a big sister.”

I hugged Kryzen back, burying my face in his shoulder. “It’s sounding like they’ll be born by the end of spring,” I announced.

Kryzen’s answering smile was dazzling. “I can’t wait,” he said. He rested his hand over my still flat tummy. “I can’t wait to meet them.”

I gasped in surprise when Kryzen’s lips were suddenly on mine. He was kissing me fervently. I could feel his excitement and undying love as he did so. His mouth was hot on mine, causing me to shiver in delight.

I yelped when Kryzen scooped me up and carried me back into our bedroom. I clung tightly to his neck, feeling small and like I weighed nothing as he carried me over to the bed and dropped me on top of the covers.

He flipped me over so I was on my stomach, his hands going for the clasps on the back of my dress. He undid them with quick, practiced fingers. I shivered again as more of my skin was exposed to the cool night air of the room.

“You are so beautiful,” he murmured, pressing kisses along my back as more skin came into view.

My only response was a moan as Kryzen slipped the dress off of me and dropped it on the floor carelessly. He climbed onto my back, straddling my lower back, his hands sliding around me to my full breasts. He tweaked each nipple while he trailed kisses along my neck, making my nerves catch fire.

There was something extremely hot about having my back to him. I felt much more vulnerable. I had to give him my full trust in this position.

I was completely and utterly his.

I gasped at the sounds of clothing sliding across Kryzen’s smooth skin. It wasn’t long before I felt his warmth against my back. His hands pushed my thighs apart, and I could already tell that I was wet and ready for him.

I felt his fingers trail along my neck as he gathered my hair in one hand, gripping it and tugging it slightly. “You are mine,” he said huskily in my ear as he pulled my hair. “You already know that well, but I’m going to make sure you never even question it.”

“I won’t ever question it,” I moaned, feeling myself grow wetter. I needed him now. “Please, Kryzen. I won’t ever question it. I love you.”

He bent over me to kiss my cheek. The movement caused me to feel his hard erection against my lower back. “I love you too,” he said. “So much.”
